I wonder what Charlotte would look like if we just focused on Gilbert and Antawn? With Okafor's likely Contract and J-Rich, if we went after both Gilbert and Antawn, that would pretty much eat up about $50 mil. We would basically have to ship off Crash, Ray for Draft picks and expirings. But would it be worth it?
PG - Gilbert
SG - Carroll
SF - J-Rich
PF - Antawn
C - Okafor
or
PG - Gilbert
SG - J-Rich
SF - Dudley
PF - Antawn
C- Okafor
And trading both Crash and Ray and we have #9 for leverage also, we should very easily get into the top 3 of the Draft to get either Beasley or Mayo. Can you see this as possible:
PG - Gilbert
SG - Mayo
SF - J-Rich
PF - Antawn
C - Okafor
or
PG - Gilbert
SG - J-Rich
SF- Beasley
PF - Antawn
C - Okafor
It's blazing hot outside. Maybe the sun is getting to me, I dont know. But I think this is doable. Gilbert likes playing with Antawn. MJ and LB have ties to Antawn thru UNC. It could work. One glitch is they would basically have to agree in a gentleman's agreement to sign with us before the FA signing period starts on 7/1 as we would have to give us Ray and Crash and stuff during the Draft. And agents will lie, no doubt.

Gilbert is representing himself, which will save him the agent's fee. That is some $ which will benefit the buyer. It is not unrealistic, just something which would be very tough to accomplish. But it is possible.

Gilbert wants max money with bad knees and a bad history of missing large chunks of the season.
i would love to have him on my team.. i just dont think its worth the trouble to get him.
i also dont want antwan jamison. when i look out in the league at PF options... hes like number 56. cool guy, hometown hero and all... just not the peice that makes this team a contender.
but ohara... if you give me a legitimate way of getting Agent Zero on this team without giving up multiple peices of our core... then id be interested. id like to see what you can come up with.

Mustachio:
If we get Agent Zero, then Ray is not needed. If you are willing, package Ray and Crash with our pick to get #2 from Miami with expirings and their 2nd rounder. Get Beasley with the #2 pick. Then use our 2nds to try and grab a player who can contribute around the PG/SG like Weaver and then someone who can play the SF/PF area.
PG - Gilbert
SG - J-Rich
SF - Dudley
PF - Beasley
C - Okafor
That's a mean lineup right there. But I dont know if folks are willing to give up 2 of our core to get Agent Zero and Beasley. I would in a heartbeat, but I know some here wont. This also takes Antawn out of the equation also. But if you want to make a move for a proven vet like Agent Zero and you want one of the two studs from the Draft, you have to be willing to sacrifice something - it is a gamble. I dont know if Gilbert will require MAX $. Remember, he is going to save 4% by acting as his own agent, and he is coming off knee surgery. I think he wants his due $, but he also wants to win. And I bet with he and Beasley added, this team wins.

your forgetting about cap space. We dont have nearly enough space to sign gilbert none the less Gilbert AND antawn

An important thing about winning. Chemistry. A new group of players, several egos (beasley and gil) and a new (for us) coach does not equal a lot of winning. If they mesh give them several years and i bet theyre great, but I dont see gilbert being extremely excited to come to charlotte.
On top of that, the Miami deal wont work, as they are on the fringe of cap space before they resign anyone.
