It's the dead part of the season so i thought i would bring up this question to all the Bobcat faithful. Would you renounce OK50s contract if we could sign Brand in free agency to a long term deal.

Or a sign and trade OK and Morrison for Brand ?
Your thoughts?

I don't make the deal. I remember many, many years ago when Dominique Wilkins ruptured his achilles. When he came back he was never the same caliber player.

This is where I leave it up to my team physician to earn his $. Get him in for a physical, MRI of his leg, and if the doctor gives him a clean bill of health, then yes, I do it. If the doctor is unable to give me the thumbs up, I pass.

achilles injuries are nasty, plus brand isn't a spring chicken anymore, so i would keep okafor unless we could get something with brand, which i doubt

just signing brand i would take the chance on though

Getting Brand without having Okafor sort of defeats the purpose if you want to know my opinion. Okafor is (even though he disappears and makes me want to kick something) a good interior defender and a pretty good rebounder when he plays with fire. He also can be a pretty good post scorer, but is more of a defensive, scrappy points kind of 6'10 athletic dude. Not many players his size run the floor as well as he does with his strength too. Put a great post scorer on the other side of him, or an athletic one that can hit a midrange, a la al harrington, a la chris bosh type players, and our front line would look great.

Getting rid of the defense and substituting more offense might help, but overall i think the combination is what is most important. If we hold onto oak and cannot score brand or boozer or whoever, I think Anthony Randolph is worth trying with mek.

I don't make the deal. I remember many, many years ago when Dominique Wilkins ruptured his achilles. When he came back he was never the same caliber player. As a diehard Hawk fan of that era, I've got to throw in my two cents; no, he wasn't the "same caliber player," but he was still a helluva player with great range, a quick first step, an aggressive rebounder and even defender, and could still fly for those violent dunks every so often. That happened during the '92 season, and he came back like a house on fire in '93 and was among the league leaders in scoring, and he was a crucial element of the '94 eastern conference regular season champs with Kevin Willis, Stacey Augmon and Mookie Blaylock, before fucking Pete Babcock traded Nique for Danny Manning (in the last year of his contract, no less) and they were eliminated in 5 or 6 against the Pacers in the 2nd round. That's the trade that started the Hawks downfall, and ended my "fanhood."

No, still not bitter after all these years...

I remember when that trade happened, It was really sad
having to watch a player that gave so much to a franchise have to finish up his career with the Clippers.

Face it OK50 plays like the chief Robert Parish. Hes all ways going to be good a third option but never a star. Brand you get a automatic star in the east, Playing along side Nazz we become a better defencive team because Brand can defend away from the basket. As far as offencive games go it's no comparison . Brand kills him ever time . If Brand passes a physical that trade is a no brainer .

IDK if I would want Elton Brand. I am scared we could get damaged goods. Plus I think if we want another big man then we need to draft Kevin Love... ;)

If you want Love just sign POB . He's bigger better and picked in about the same spot two years ago 8th pick . Brand is a differant class All star class . I f you think hes to beat up to play go after Jamison another top player somone who puts us in the playoffs.

Love just sets us up for another loto pick next yeat , We need a proven power foward even if we have to give up the ninth pick.

Im with you dav7z, I like the idea of Jamison coming to Charlotte, so if Brand couldnt pass a physical then Id go for Jamison. :)

Okafor frustrates me to no end. Just I don't think he is all that great of a center (he is a defensive presence but is too short and is not Ben Wallace like on D, Rebounds good only if he is really into the game, gets crushed playing against a quality big man or pair of decent C and PF together) at power forward (not quick enough to handle those guys apparently and has no perimeter offensive game)

I know some of you think we're too hard on the guy but every time I think of how we are a bit handcuffed to make a move because of his position... its really frustrating.

I'd like to bring in Brand but his injury scares me. What I'd like to do is bring in a PF with that kind of talent to put beside Okafor to see just what Okafor really is about. At the moment he is just not #2 worthy... damn it...

Seriously, every year to this day I at least think once about what could've been if they had kept that core together. Manning was just a massive softie and totally useless and got pushed around by Derrick McKey for pete's sake during that 2nd round series. We may not've gotten past the Knicks in the conference finals, but I know we would've taken out the Pacers if Nique was still there.

Even though they got Steve Smith (another of my alltime favs), it still wasn't enough for me to pull for that franchise. The way they treated Nique, they didn't deserve any support, and the decades long misery they put up with until this season was justice at its finest.

Bonnell touches on EO50's situation in this piece. He makes a good point. Unless something drastic changes, there will be only 3 teams with the cap space to go after EO50. Any other deal would have to be a S&T and we would have to agree to it.

I hope that, like Crash and when he tested the market, EO50 finds out that he is not worth $12 mill a year and we instead sign him long term to a contract more like Chandlers.

Chandlers contract is definitely a good comparison i think. If we swing that... im happy
