Bonnell's Blog (http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2008/07/browns-influenc.html) was good too.

Brown's correcting a lot of things that are wrong with the younger Bobcats. One thing I thought about while reading these two articles was that Coach Brown just might be able to turn Ryan into a good basketball player.

lookie at Rick Bonnell steppin up his game.

great to know... I hope Hollins isn't a lost cause.

This whole team will be so much better. its crazy. Think about how much better prepared they will be game in game out. Think about how many game decisions and plays will be made with authority instead of guessing.
Think about how many close games we had last year. or how the team showed potential against some of the best teams around including the World Champs.

I just think that a lot of criticism we throw on the players, might well be fixed by the coaching change. we very well could be a legit team next year.

It's great to see this kind of teaching going on already. It's the biggest reason I wanted him as the coach. I don't care if he leaves us in 2 years which I doubt will happen. What he will teach our guys in his time here is stuff they won't forget and will continue to apply after he's gone when they see how much his tutoring pays off.

Brown doesn’t surrender to players’ bad habits. Considering how poorly coached the team was last season, what I saw Tuesday was refreshing.

I can't wait to see what the team looks like this season now that we have legitimate quality coaching. I know that this was just observations from a summer league practice, but that article has me really hyped.

Bonnell in the article and the blog impressed the hell out of me. I think LB might be rubbing off on him. Maybe layoffs, DUI(hate to be personal), and a regime change have made Bonnell into a serious beat writer for the Bobcats...I hope so anyway, because we get 0 from anywhere but here and the Observer.

As to the real topic: LB is a great coach. These guys will buy into his system, a) because they have to, b) because they saw how things went day in day out with a bad coach, they know how good it will be with a great coach. I can't distinguish what Ammo was doing "wrong" or that Ryan could do better by doing x,y or z, neither could Sammy McBiscuits, neither could any of his assistants and if they could they wouldnt be allowed to say it, but Larry Brown does and he demands respect by his resume alone and this team will listen to him and run with it. It's going to be a great season especially if we sign Okafor and AA plays solid 15 mins a game!

If you haven't yet watched the video on the Bobcats home page 2008 Las Vegas Summer League Day 2, (http://www.bobcats.com) I suggest you take the time to do so. A good interview with Coach Brown, and each of the JDs.

A few things of note:
Jermareo is really soft-spoken.
Coach Brown's best quote, "They haven't been through me."

It's like night and day from last season.

I know...that was absolutely SHOCKING!!!! and that's saying something considering how low of an opinion we all had of him/ham. I mean really, limiting the number of times an assistant could talk to him during a game?!?!?! WTF!?!?!?

Like everybody else here has mentioned, Bonnell has picked up his game, and it's an absolute blast reading LB's enthusiasm as it really does spread to we fans as well. I loved Jared's interview on the bobcats site as well....partly out of breath, but he still couldn't stop talking about what he needs to do to get better conditioned, and how he's ready to help any of the rooks and FAs learn their way: whether he knows it or not, it looks like LB has his very own teacher's assistant!!

******

And that's it. I'm off to Baltimore tomorrow evening for the weekend to visit with my cousin, mess around with some Charm City hotties (that's not an oxymoron, is it? I'm afraid it may be....), and watch my Astros get swept by the lowly Nats in their weekend series. I'm taking my laptop, so I might be able to check in Friday, but keep me informed on how the guys look during their game on Saturday and Sunday (if they play Sunday). I'll make sure to take one of my 'Cats shirts up there to spread the love and knowledge up that way!! (Lord knows, I'm almost too embarassed to take my Astros hat with me to the game, much less a shirt.)

I swear listening to Dudley you wouldn't think he just finished off his first year in the league very wise beyond his years. Also it's great to hear that Davidson has been trying to bulk up and trying to play more physical. I expect good things from him next season the talent is there just needs direction from the coaching staff and a legit chance unlike he got last year for the most part.

I'm ecstatic knowing we now have a real coach rather than someone who wasn't ready to be a Head Coach and who thinks he's better at his job than he actually is. Seeing that quote about how he used his assistants last season shows he really was a f*cking idiot and explains so much to me. No wonder Felts and probably others took there problems to other people outside of the organization rather than the assistant coaches because they wouldn't have had a say so anyway.

It looks like DJ. as well as the rest of the team has put learning on the fast track.
DJ all ready knowing hes not tall enough to take it to the hole much with Larry Brown coaching [USE THE PULL UP JUMPER'] Bet D.J learns that this weak somthing Felton hasn't learned in three years.

I thought it was interesting when I read that because he abused the two 7 foot lottery picked Lopez boys when Texas played Standford by driving on them.

I think the key is not to take it to the rack every time, no need to give up the easy shot for a harder one... like someone who plays pg on the bobcats does

The few times I've seen him it appears DJ has a VERY good pull up shot in the paint, much better than Felts. Brown will teach him to play to his strengths and that's probably what we're seeing here.

Funny how it seems the young players have a problem learning how to "get the call" or ignore the contact and watch the ball go in. I was going to say PGs, but Crash has had issue with that too up til last year.

Man...this just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!!!

He's done more real teaching – cleaning up players' bad habits – in four days this summer than former Bobcats coach Sam Vincent did all last season.

Always gotta try to get the shot in, right Matt? ;-)

As to driving it all the way to the hole, it is a mixed bag. Felton has to continue working on the in between game that he began working on last year, but at the same time has a stronger body and longer reach than DJ making him more equipped to go all the way to the rack. He needs to build that in between game, but should not completely abandon going all the way to the rack as it creates foul opportunities, but also opens rebounding lanes for offensive rebounds for Emeka as well as dish opportunities if the defense collapses earlier.

Nonetheless, DJ is very fortunate to have a legit tactical coach his first season, something our other young draft picks are just now getting in season 5 for Okafor and 4 for Felton.

Some of that has had to do with the general respect sent towards the Bobcats. Obviously you have to adjust to the way the game is called, but you are also taught when attacking the basket many times to get to the line. That doesn't mean you don't think about or attempt to make the shot, but getting fouled is also a legitimate goal when attacking the basket. It always works for most of our opponents in end game situations. ;-) As always, the truth lies somewhere in between. You adjust to the way the game is called. But you should initially be aggressive and attack the basket.

Jared Dudley on Larry Brown:

“I'm not saying Sam Vincent (Brown's predecessor) was definitely a bad coach, but this coach has so much more experience. He's been with so many teams and won championships. He had Dean Smith teach him. He's going to be so thorough. Already (before) training camp, we have everything we had last year, if not more.''

HA Ziggy's link and Dnbman's reply led me to realize that Jared Dudley is far and away my favorite Bobcat, with Ryan Hollins 2nd :)

Thank goodness the Biscuit is gone; rock the house, Larry Brown.

Hardly anyone is expecting anything from the Bobcats next season; lets surprise them, and if we can't; well lets at least have some fun.

You know, as close as this team played in many of the games they lost, I wonder how many they would have been able to pull out if they were better coached. I don't think it is far fetched to say that LB's addition might be worth 5-10 wins alone. Then you include a competent backup PG, and this team should definitely be in the hunt for a playoff spot (not to mention if May and/or Morrison give us something this year).
