This is a 2 parter.
First do you think Kyle Hines earns a roster spot. LB seems to love him.... very deeply
“We have some guys who were drafted (by the Bobcats) or who've played a year in the league, and I want them to match the intensity of a Kyle Hines or a James Mays,” Brown said, referring to two players just hoping to be invited to camp in October. And, if he earns a spot then who won't make the roster because of him?
I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Only seen one game so far. Need to see more b/4 I can make a call on him. But you are right, LB likes him.

I think Weaver and even Hollins might end up on the cutting room floor, especially if Hines makes the team.

Weaver will make the team. But Hollins is looking pretty poor and I can see him losing a roster spot.

Hines and Mays are making a strong case for roster spots.

i'm gonna say no to hines. he'll get a camp invite and some kind words of encouragement from LB. LB will keep tabs on him in the d-league and maybe after he adds some range to his jumper LB gives him another shot. lynch was bigger and had 3pt range, something kyle is lacking. get a 3 ball and come back next year.
hollins is possibly gone. weaver will get a spot.
mays has no chance.

Fat sums up my opinon of the players listed above to perfection...except I'd downgrade Hollins from "possibly" to probably gone.
As an MA student at UNCG during Hines' time there, I kept up with how he was doing and was amazed at how productive of a career he had there, and the enthusiasm he brought to what is pretty much a commuter school and has had much more success in men's soccer than basketball. He really has done nothing but good things for himself thus far in the SL, exceeding my expectations just by getting an invite. With some perimeter work, like Fat mentions, and a little bit better handle with the ball, it won't surprise me if he gets a shot at suiting up in the future. And I'm definitely pulling for him to do so!

My daughter graduated from UNCG and she would tell me I ought to come see a game sometime, but I never had the chance to go. SHe said they were getting better and better every year. They have a good basketball program there.

I hope we give that spot to James Mays then... The guy can play! I'd also like to see us bring in Orien Greene and Guillermo Diaz to camp and let the best man be the third PG. I really hope Mays gets a spot though.

I kind of see Hines and Mays filling the the same role as Dudley. All around hustle guy who does the dirty work and has good instincts.
Hollins has a garenteed contract so I doubt he will be gone until after this year.
We will probably invite several players to camp and give the last roster spot to someone with good work ethic, who is a good teamate. I really hope Chris Lofton is one of the players who gets an invite to camp.

I know I've said it many times already, but I can't believe we gave that contract to Ryan. After the past two years, I'd feel better about extending a chance to someone in SL like Mays and still having a roster spot open.

Why was he re-signed? I could use a player 10 minutes a game and pay them league minimum (Othella Hunter, Kyle Hines, James Mayes). Hell, Paul Milsap makes less than Hollins.
Good thing it's only for a year.

I'm glad you brought up the question about the roster. Harrington is gone, Anderson probably won't be resigned and Earl Boykins probably hopefully won't be resigned. So doesn't that open up a couple more spots for some people?
Hollins should have never even been invited to Summer League let alone given any type on contract that pays him USA money.
I's rather see Mays get one of the open spots. He's a big body thats active on the glass and thats what we need more then anything.
I can't wait to NBA2k 09 comes out I'm releasing Hollins from the team and burning his pass port.

1 Felton
2 J-Rich
3 Wallace
4 May
5 Mek
6 Nzar
7 M.C.
8 Ammo
9 Dudley
10 AA
11 Jemario
12 Hollins
13 D.J.
14 Weaver
One spot left by my count assuming that Boykins and Anderson are gone. Ryan Hollins isn't the type of player you can just throw out there and have rely on his basketball instincts. With great coaching he could play an effective 15 min a game or so some nights.

I agree you can't just throw Hollins out there, Cuz lets be honest, He sucks. But May, Ajinca, and Davidson you could rotate in and out give them each 10minutes or so to start things off. U still have Omeka protecting the paint. All those guys are athletic enough to play PF and Big enough. They just don't have any real game time under their belts yet. Ajinca is still a wild card but if he can even average 8-10 points a game maybe 6 or so rebounds. Thats a good start.
