It gives a very fair assessment of DJ. I know many are worried about the assists, but with the regular team, those will come just fine. What matters is that he can control the ball, move it where he wants on the open Court, and when he must shoot, he shoots a solid %.
I know many wanted Bayless, and I understand the feelings. I really thought he'd be our guy as well. But if we are looking for a true PG who will push Ray Felton to his potential or push him out of the way, DJ is that guy. Bayless would not be. Bayless would have been a glorified back up PG and back up SG who spelled Ray and J-Rich. He would not have taken over the start for either, nor threatened to do so. I think DJ will prove to be much more as this season progresses.

This one is from RGM. Not even about DJ, but makes me glad we did not get Love. I really fear he is another Sean May in the making. The knee is already in trouble, even tho he took some weight off.

oh man, did that guy compare him to Big country?
But when you are taken with the fifth pick in the draft (and traded for a potential star like O.J. Mayo), you are expected to be more than a more skilled Bryant Reeves.
Harsh, but possibly true. The kid does start a break with an outlet pass like no other, he has a jumper, or rather a long distance shot. Don't think he's much of a feet off the floor guy. Best way of putting that: "you have to remember he's a 6-8 guy who plays below the rim." Huge rebound numbers in summer league play. I think he was well taught from an early age. So, yeah summer league...doesn't say a whole hell of a lot about what a player will do in the regular season. I still haven't wrapped my head around the Mayo-Love trade. Somebody break it down for me?
The more I watch Mayo, the more he reminds me of Michael Redd rather than Kobe Bryant.

My cousin is a Memphis fan, I was looking forward to clownin him about the Gay -Love Connection. Now what do i have Gay - Mayo?
Now about DJ, I'm a ACC man,I really don't watch many other leagues. That always come back to bite me at draft time. But when Charlotte picked him I wasn't upset at all. I didn't want Lopez, I knew he wasn't going to really Fit the Bobcats playing style. Just like Morrison doesn't really fit. Dj does, I watch the games he play'd in a couple of them i watch twice. His team mates dropped passes, Got fouled on the regular ( 10 fouls in Summer league ), and didn't know how to slide to the open spots. In the first game he had four or five assists that where taken away. He did turn the ball over but thats a rookie trying to impress his knew bosses. Wait and See, DJ will start in a few yrs.

Dude, you were the one that was concerned after the GSW game when he had zero assists and I was the one on "cloud nine" after his phenomenal 30 pt performance. My how the tide turns...
No, as you know, the day after the draft, I really put everything into perspective and came around to the pick (all 3 picks, actually), and DJ was the best possible selection for us at 9, no bones about it. His defense is scary considering he struggled to stay in front of CJ Watson, but maybe LB and Phil can work with him on his footwork and using his speed as a defensive asset to make up for his lack of size.
Also, I'm really excited that Kyle "Beagle" Weaver played so well the last few games of the SL so that he'll make the squad. What a job he did on Belinelli in the 2nd half after he torched us in the 1st, not to mention his high FG% and ball distribution.....he could be a special player for us for years to come off the bench.

As for Love, you can ask DNBman: I have him pegged as a bigger Adam Keefe. But considering he hasn't played a game yet, the verdict is obviously still out. I'm just glad we weren't a position to draft him.

Hasn't Love's SL performance already cemented his legacy above Adam Keefe's?
Seriously though: Keefe averaged 5 pts, 4 boards, and 17 minutes a game. Love is going to at least double his points and rebounds: 10 and 8. That's doable, isn't it?
Man, Adam Keefe.
The 90s were just not a good time for tall white guys. Maybe it was the curse of Bill Laimbeer.

Beagle: You are correct on Weaver. Kid plays solid Defense and that may be very key for us in the future when we need to assign him to someone to so a "shut down" on Defense. He's only a Rookie so he should improve on Defense as well as offense.
Yes, I was concerned with the lack of assists by DJ. But I saw what you and many others wrote on the fact that this was just SL, and that LB was looking at other aspects of his game which were terrific. The assists will come when he is playing with the quality players. Then, I came to agree with you and the others.
As for Love, I think he has all the tools to be very very good. But if his knees are this bad at only 19 yrs old, I just think he is going to wind up like May and miss many games and eventually have surgery. This problematic at so young is not good.
"Hasn't Love's SL performance already cemented his legacy above Adam Keefe's? "
Yes!

Here's another article which indicates DJ was a very good pick. Nice to see others agree that we did well with picking DJ.
