Question about the draft

I've looked but maybe not hard enough. When we aquired the 20th pick from Denver this year, What did we give up?? I heard on draft night we paid for the pick, then later i heard we gave up a "potential" first rounder next year. The "Potential" got me, So if it's not a high draft pick Denver doesn't want it?
I honestly don't know if Ajinca will ever pan out to be worth anything and it would make me feel better bout the whole thing if we bought the pick instead of giving away a pick next yr.

"Denver will get Charlotte's first-round pick next season if the Bobcats make the playoffs. If they don't, Charlotte keeps it. The pick would then be protected by a sliding scale, where Charlotte would retain it if it's in the top 12 in 2010, top 10 in 2011, top eight in 2012 and top three in 2013. Charlotte would have no protection for the pick in 2014."

One of several reasons I wasn't thrilled about our draft but at this point I don't have a lot of great expectations from our team's management. I always tend to hold on to faint hope that somehow things will change for the better. We have some good pieces but we are always taking 2 steps back it seems.
