Nice job Tamburello but I guess now that Mek has signed a new contract 6 years 72 mil your figures need to be changed again. Unless I'm wrong wouldn't that now be $62,182,262.00? I'm no expert on these matters.

I see your point, but we still don't know the exact figures of Emeka's contract. Yet Emeka has not signed the official deal. We don't know the starting money of his contract or the type of it, for example whether it is 12x6, or a front loaded one, or a typical back loaded deal is not known.

After this deal is officialized and we learn the details, I'll update the board ;) However, at the moment one thing is for sure, once Okafor signs, Bobcats will go over the cap for the first time in 5 years' franchise history.

I will do. Actually I was only waiting the trade deadline, because we might see other transactions about the team. But I will start updating now.

Stern warns teams of trying times ahead - CBSSports.com (http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/13584924)

“They know exactly what’s happening,” Stern said. “They know what their finances are. They know what the issues are. We also know that the cap is going to start ... the cap is coming down.”

Wow... just wow. Seems like that puts a bit of a damper on the ultra-hyped Summer of 2010.

Preface: I am in no way trying to take Tamb's place doing this, he does it all nice and neat whereas I just scrap it together and he has a much more in depth knowledge of the salary cap than I do. This is just an attempt to help keep the board updated as free agency starts. I've noticed some of the figures are different than what he has in his info, I got the majority of mine from storytellerscontracts.info and can't account for the differences other than perhaps he got some of his from Hoopshype.

Current Salary Cap Figures...
Emeka Okafor: 10,497,500
Gerald Wallace: 9,500,000
Boris Diaw : 9,000,000
Nazr Mohammed: 6,466,600
Vladimir Radmanovic: 6,466,600
DeSagana Diop: 6,031,800
Raymond Felton: 5,501,197
Raja Bell: 5,250,000
DJ Augustin: 2,374,680
Gerald Henderson: 1,957,080
Alexis Ajinca: 1,372,080
Sean Singletary: 736,420
Dontell Jefferson: 736,420

TOTAL PLAYER SALARIES: $65,890,377

PROJECTED SALARY CAP FOR 2009-10 SEASON: $57,300,000

AMOUNT OVER CAP: $8,590,377

PROJECTED LUXURY TAX THRESHOLD: $70,050,000 (a figure I saw mentioned as projected once but haven't seen it again since)

NOTE 1: The amount of the MLE & biannual exceptions for 2009-10 season have not been announced.

NOTE 2: The amount for Raymond Felton currently reflects his qualifying offer.

NOTE 3: The amount for Sean Singletary is a team option for the 2009-10 season. The team has not announced their intentions with this option that I've seen. It's also listed on storytellercontracts.info as not fully guaranteed.

NOTE 4: There is a vast difference of opinions on Dontell Jefferson's contract. Some sources list it as only having been for the remainder of last year, some list it as a team option for this year, some list it as fully guaranteed for this year. Until I can find a definitive answer I will treat it as though it were fully guaranteed.

NOTE 5: The salary figure used for Gerald Henderson is the maximum allowed for 1st round picks (120% of the rookie scale figure for that selection). The actual scale figure is $1,630,900.

NOTE 6: I did not include any salary amount for second round pick Derrick Brown, I'm far from 'educated' enough in the contracts of second round picks to be able to figure out a likely salary for him.

Gives us a little less than $1mil to work with. I could definitely be wrong with these numbers so please don't quote me. I did however get these numbers from HoopsHype's salary page for the Bobcats.

Those numbers don't add up to the total you listed. The salaries you list total $62,813,313.

And that's without Henderson's contract figured in and doesn't account for the possibility that Jefferson is under contract for this coming season.

I stand by the $65,890,377 number I posted.

EDIT- Figured out the difference between the salaries & total you listed. The total doesn't include Felton's QO & Singletary's team option.

I didn't do the math, I just copied it from HoopsHype.

Either way, we both have to be wrong. There's no way were $5mil + over the cap

I think it's quite likely that we are given the contracts that we've taken on over the past year plus.

Tamb's info in his last update had the number for this year around 66 mill. That included May's QO but not a salary for the #12 pick or Jefferson. If you take the number he had, subtract out May's QO and add in the salaries I have for Henderson & Jefferson, his total would then match mine exactly.

Thanks for contributing here jpf, and feel free to add things any time you want. I was waiting for updating here until moratorium lifts, and true salary cap figures are released. Also I'd like to remind you that Felton is not counting as his QO figure against our cap, he's counting about $12 mil, which is 300% of his previous salary (see http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q30).

What does all these mean? Be cool, we only have MLE as expected.

Just received a reply from Rick Bonnell, Singletary is only partially guaranteed for this season. If he's cut by sometime in September the 'Cats are only stuck paying a portion of his contract.

EDIT- Bonnell sent me another email saying he's not actually sure Singletary's team option got picked up and will try to get clarification.

EDIT- Bonnell's last article says Singletary's team option was NOT picked up.
