August 9th, the Panthers will step onto the field for the first preseason game of the year against the Indianapolis Colts. We won't see many plays from any of the projected starters I'm sure, but what rookies, or guys fighting to make the roster are you looking forward to seeing?

It's going to be fun to see Williams and Stewart run all over them next weekend.

Agreed

I would also like to see more of DJ Hackett, Dwayne Jarrett, Charles Godfrey and any guys they plan to put back there to return punts and kickoffs. We sucked at both last year.

I won't be near a TV at game time, Do you know if there's a way to watch the game on the internet?

^Lucky I wont make it to any preseason games this year but I'm sure I'll go to quite a few regular season ones especially if we are in the playoff hunt those always have the best crowd atmosphere.

I kind of hope Jake plays limited minutes to 1)avoid injuring himself again and 2) to see how Matt Moore looks with the first team.

He looked good against the Seahawks last year! I was lucky enough to be on the 40 yard line about a dozen rows back for that one. Was actually my first game, and I had a blast.

Moore would have led us to a victory against the Cowboys last year too but the refs screwed us overall though he played with a lot of confidence while starting I'm willing to bet he would have led us to more wins than David Carr did lol.

Definitely Jarrett. I hope he gets a lot of burn in these pre-season games and proves that he was worth being picked as high as he was.

Don't worry about that he will get plenty of PT during the preseason especially if he has an impressive showing tomorrow night. Jarrett has some competition for that 3rd reciever spot though with Jason Carter impressing the coaches and players during Training Camp it will be interesting to see which one of those guys take the 3rd WR spot behind Moose and Hackett for the 2 games without Smitty.

DWill doing what I expected from him good start on D and O.

I wrote a poem whilst watching this game. It goes like so:

Helllllooooooo
DeAngelo!

See, it kinda rhymes.

Now, I know we're not playing against Manning, but Manning plays offense. DWill's still going up against their first team defense and making them look silly! That, and the Panthers' defense is looking good (albeit against Sorgi).

Edit: okay, I guess Sanders and Freeney were out. I don't know how I missed that... Still, DeAngelo is the truth!

D-Lo looked good as did Peppers, Moore and Jarret. Those guys stood out to me. Our first team both on offense and defense were just flawless. Always nice to start with a win.

Some thoughts...

Sadly didn't get to see Jake throw a lot because of great field position and sick running from DWill but I was impressed with the other QB's namely Matt Moore (showed he could get out of the pocket and be more mobile when there is pressure and has a nice arm) and Lester Ricard (who has a rocket of an arm and would be a nice change to have a 6"4 QB on the roster) Brett Basanez could fall down on the depth chart and lose his spot on the team if Ricard continues to show potential. He looked mobile as usual but didn't show that much else.

Peppers is in for a monster year if he can stay healthy same goes for DWill. If our o-line continues to open up big holes for him and the running backs our offense should be really dominate as showed by how the first team offense looked last night major props to the oline especially Otah. Either our oline is vastly improved or we have a lot of very strong running back core because DWill, Goings, Toefield and Birmingham all ran the ball tremendously well last night I can't wait to see Stewart behind this line.

Dwayne Jarrett showed some great hands, decent run blocking and didn't shy away from contact after a big catch all things I wanted to see from him hopefully he continues to impress. Jason Carter has some nice hands but I expected to see more runs after the catch he seemed to go down easily after contact. Late in the game another wide out started to catch my eye his name is Chris Hannon I swear dude looked like Smitty out there running hard after contact. Deepest and most talented Wide Receiver core we have ever had IMO it will only get better when Hackett, Smitty and Ryne return to action.

1st team "Hit Squad" Defense looked REAL intense for the first time in I don't know how long was really impressed with Seward and Thomas Davis both made some big statement plays.

Special teams still has some work to do as far as stopping big return gains but I had no complaints about our kick off specialist Lloyd I think we'll end up signing him he had like 4 balls go into the endzone.

As far as second and third stringers LB Dan Connor, punter Rhys Lloyd, Wideout Chris Hannon, DE Hilee Taylor and RB DeCori Birmingham all looked like keepers.

It seems that every year, the Panthers have an agenda in each game. It's like they take each game and try to focus on one single aspect.

Saturday's game was to see how well they can run block.

I saw a lot more push and many more holes than I did last season. Was that change of personnel or scheme that was responsible? I think it was a little bit of both.

I was disappointed that we didn't get to see Stewart.

Goings doesn't seem to have burst any longer. Can the Panthers justify keeping him over a guy like Birmingham?

I wonder how many running backs we will carry this year Stewart/DWill are locks obviously w/Goings, Birmingham and Toefield fighting for the 3rd spot. I like the potential I saw from Birmingham and LaBrandon Toefield and Goings might be the odd man out since he's more injury prone than Crash.
