New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is expected to miss the rest of the 2008 season with what two sources described as a severe injury to his left knee, suffered in the first quarter of the Pats’ 17-10 victory over the Kansas City :Chiefs at Gillette Stadium Sunday.

While New England coach Bill Belichick said in his postgame press conference that he had no update on the status of Brady’s injury, a source close to the quarterback indicated it involved serious damage to the knee. That could include a torn anterior cruciate ligament and perhaps other ligament and cartilage damage.

“It’s bad,” a team source said. “We’re going to have to play without him.”

Brady was hurt as he stepped up in the pocket to make a throw to wideout Randy Moss. :Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, who was on the ground, lunged forward and struck Brady’s leg, which buckled as he released the ball.

Brady was helped off the field and was later led down a staircase by team officials, presumably to undergo tests.

Fourth-year quarterback Matt Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in his career before Sunday, replaced Brady and completed 13 of 18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Cassel, who backed up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC, hasn’t been a starting quarterback since high school. He won a competition with Matt Gutierrez during the preseason to retain the job as Brady’s primary backup.
I hate this team with a passion but I would never wish injury on a player sucks for him and Pats fans I'm guessing it's a ACL tear.

Lets see how quick the pats bandwagon gets empty. I respect the hell out of Brady, but I am SICK and TIRED of the Patriots and the "Patriot Way", and all the fans that swear they loved the pats when they were still rocking the terrible unis. Lets see how many pats flags and stickers you see on cars in... oh, about 6 weeks. I just wish I could've been a fly on the wall to see smug Bill Simmons reaction at that one. It's just sports karma, the Sox are behind the Rays, Brady blows out a knee, if I'm KG or Paul Peirce i'm worried.. Boston's days of reign are just about over.

I've been watching ESPN and I notice most of the host are saying the Pats will still go 12-4 without Brady.

As a former MA native and Pats (and Sox) fan, I think the team is more likely 8-8 without Brady. The defense still needs a lot of making over and was the big worry this year, especially at CB. Without the offense to carry the load, this is a much weaker team because they can't control the clock. If this was last year, I'd say the Pats could still win the division because the Bills and Jets just sucked out loud but both made a lot of strides this year.

I don't know, you never count a Belichick team out, though. He doesn't have bunch of rings because he's a dummy.

Wildcard playoff spot is not a reach for them at all I think they'll shock the world and go out and sign Daunte Culpepper since he has great chemistry with Moss already.
