The dominance of Anderson Silva in the UFC middleweight division may soon come to an end -- voluntarily.

Intheguard.tv is reporting that Anderson Silva, 22-4 and undefeated in his last eight fights, recently told the Brazilian sports program "Sensei SporTV" for an episode airing Sept. 28 that his plan is to retire within a year.

"I'll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don't need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I'll put my gloves aside," said Silva.

After capturing the 185-pound title and winning six straight in the UFC, Silva challenged himself by moving up to the 205-pound division to face James Irvin in July. Silva needed only 61 seconds to knockout his opponent.

Silva's next fight is against Canadian Patrick Cote on Oct. 25 at UFC 90 in Chicago, Illinois.

Hopefully he'll be able to hold two titles before he hangs it up.

I hope he doesn't retire. I bet this will be a Floyd Mayweather type of retirement though. Silva has to be one of MMA's top earners, and to walk away from that paycheck in your prime? Just doesn't make sense. I want to see him stay at 205 and see what he can do.

By the way, He is going to DESTROY Cote in his next fight.

^There is some people in the MMA circuit that think Cote will win.

Also Ziggy make sure you check out Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock tonight free on CBS should be a good fight while it last

^ Anything but a good fight for Kimbo as he got KTFO if 14 seconds by a guy that was 0-2 in UFC, 30 lbs lighter, and had pink hair. Just proves Kimbo is a fraud in MMA after all, and his 15 minutes are up. After that "performance" from Kimbo, I wander if a washed up Shamrock would've beaten him. Guess we'll never know. I am sure CBS hates that their headliner got exposed. So long Kimbo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ur4GfOJ9Q7U

That fight was hilarious he was so out of it after getting rocked he tried to slam the Ref lol. Anyways I'm with you Elite XC should find a new guy to build there company around (I'm looking at you Tito Ortiz) because Kimbo is not ready to carry a company on his back or even be a top contender.

Funny thing is that show did HUGE ratings based off Kimbo's name even after the Shamrock fight was cancelled.

Just read that EliteXC has folded. http://www.sportsline.com/mma/story/11054112 Guess Kimbo getting KO'd hurt more than just kimbo. I was actually hoping that it would do well since it was the first MMA on a major cable network.

I'm gonna miss looking at Gina Carano though, I hope Dana White signs her (even if its as a ringside girl). I doubt he will sign Kimbo, but I guess he brought ratings for CBS, so you never know. I don't think anybody on XC would have a chance vs the top UFC fighters, but Lawler was okay in his stint at UFC. Oh well, at least UFC is still doing well.

Yes Gina is sexy as hell also he should sign Kimbo Slice and put him in the ring against Chuck since they have been saying they could both beat one another.

Even though Chuck is washed up now he would still destroy Kimbo, unless Kimbo got him with a good shot to chucks glass chin. I bet that fight would actually get good ratings though as both are "name" fighters. I'm really looking forward to Brock vs Randy next month.

That fight would gross so many PPV buys and sell so many tickets I couldn't see Dana not signing him to a 1 fight contract. Chuck would probably KO Kimbo though until he can gain better cardio he wont go anywhere that sh!t is worst than his ground game lol.

Watching UFC 90 man well worth the money spent on ordering it Sherk and Tyson Griffin had a very good stand up contest, Tiago and Koscheck just had a war download this fight if you all get chance fight of the year qualifier, and Cote/Anderson Silva is up next I'll post the results of that fight in a little bit.

Silva dominated him the first two rounds seconds into the third round Cote colasped to the floor due to a leg injury from all of Silva's leg kicks and the ref stopped the fight looks like he tore his ACL.

Silva honestly looked like he was toying with him the entire fight he just needs to stay at 205 no competition.

I don't see anybody being able to give Silva a close fight right now, Although I would love to see him and Rampage go at it. That would be a lot of fun.

Is Silva really retiring though?

He didn't say anything about it last night just that he wanted to finish Cote the old fashion way. Anderson is a class act though even during the fight he offered to help Cote up from the ground and was more concerned with Cote's health than retaining his belt last night.

The long awaited fight is finally hours away from actually happening former WWE Brock Lesnar vs one of my favorites Randy Couture. Anyway else checking out this fight tonight at 10pm? you can watch it free of charge on Justin.TV just search for "Martial Arts" under the sports section and a bunch of links will pop up.

I think Brock's lack of MMA experience will hurt him tonight and he'll make a costly mistake with the outcome being Randy Couture winning by unanimous decision.

Damn good event so far especially if if you love fights that don't go into the judges hands the main event is up next.

Props to Brock Lesnar coming to the ring to Enter Sandman

DAMN Brock Lesnar is the new Heavyweight champion! He dropped Randy with a right hook to the temple and than landed several punches while Randy was down. After like 15 straight punches the ref finally stepped it and stopped the fight wow.

"That's one big sum bitch, that's all there is to it" couldnt have summed it up better. you knew it was coming. Nothing the natural could do about it. Brock is scary.

I wasn't that impressed with him to be honest besides how powerful he is Lesnar did not do much damage to Randy during the first round when he finally got him to the ground. And even at that point Randy just kept coming back at him showing a lot of heart as usual. One lucky punch won him the belt (hell that's life in MMA so whatever) but I can't see him beating Gonzaga or Nog. Hopefully Couture doesn't retire he looked better than I know a lot of people expected he'll probably face the loser of Nog/Mir.

The Sun papers in the UK reported today that Anderson Silva vs Chuck Liddell might happen out there at UFC 95. Is Chuck crazy? lol

Well this thread has introduced me to MMA fighting. I watched the Couture/Lesnar video with great enthusiasm. That Lesnar dude is a freaking beast **fear**

I went and watched some other clips of MMA fights though and had a bit of a disturbing thought....its unsettling to realize that a lot of these fights end with one big guy leaning over a prone and defenseless opponent pummeling the living crap out of his skull.

Brain Damage anyone? I'm not too sure about this....

At least in boxing, when you knock someone down they stop the fight. Not to defend boxing in the least though. That sport is dead.

edit: Lesnar not Larsen sheesh lol

Would've loved to see that fight....3 years ago when Chuck was on top of his game. Now, I think it won't be pretty for chuck. Then again, you never know in MMA, Chuck would have a punchers chance. I would say 95% chance Silva wins, 5% chuck wins but I would still watch if it happened.

I honestly didn't have Lesnar winning the fight, but he really impressed me, I believe he can beat Mir this time around if Mir wins the title fight against Nogueira. If Nogueira wins though I think Brock will be challenged and may lose his title in his first defense/unification bout...

I love boxing too but MMA believe it or not is much safer than Football, Hockey and boxing no one has got brain damage/crippled in result of a MMA fight surprisingly. During boxing bouts fighters get brain damage because they keep standing up after knockouts over and over again.

but that's MMA as we know now..in the early days i would say otherwise..have you seen the footage of MMA fights in the 90s ?? pretty brutal...someone told me that they used to bring the fights to charlotte to the cricket arena

i still treat MMA as entertainment...i cannot regard it as a sport yet..i'm still a boxing fan, although it's rep has been tained

Yea I've watched Pride and UFC Pre Dana White they use to allow stomping to a ground opponent. IMO it's a sport just a combat sport all are forms of entertainment UFC, boxing and football etc. UFC will be in NC in a few weeks I think I want to attend.

UFC 92 was a good one. I saw that Rashad got the best of Forrest in the 3rd round in a really good fight. I thought that one could go either way, and Rashad showed that he is undefeated for a reason. Also Mir won back his title and Rampage finally got a win vs the
"axe murderer". I think Rampage vs Rashad will be coming up soon if Dana doesn't have Forrest vs Rampage rematch. Good fights.
