When I talk to personnel people and scouts from other NBA teams, they tell me Johnson is selling, or is about to sell, the Bobcats.

I do worry that there are potential owners that are worse than Johnson. (ie- one's that would want to remove the team from Charlotte, if that's even possible)
There are one's that would be improvements, though.

I'm worried that this said new owner may want to move the team to another city.... That would suck....
Yes, please yes, a thousand times yes.

I thought we had them locked in for several years as part of the arena deal.

I remember hearing that too, but I'm not certain.

He's right. Teams have contracts with Arenas to stay for a certain amount of time to bring revenue for both sides. Remember when The Sonics were having problems in Seattle because they wanted to leave before the contract with their Arena ran out.
We won't be going anywhere for awhile no matter the circumstances unless Bob or any other owner wants to pay a hefty sum.

I think we should pool our money together and buy the team lol

Yeah, guys, that was a phenomenal article by....Tom Sorensen?!?!?! WTF is going on with the Observer's coverage of the Cats since coach Brown was hired? WOW.
I am optimisitic about the news also. I've just got to think with the cuts and the proposed radio cut that the NBA had to step in and renege that Stern knows Johnson isn't cut out to be an NBA owner, and he'll step in, and make sure something happens if he sees Bob continue to make bungles and half-hearted efforts to appear interested in owning a franchise. I'd like to think that, were he to sell, or be coerced into selling, that Stern would have a binding agreement with the next owner in the contract to not move the team in the immediate future: no ifs, ands or buts.
It would be great to have someone to at least look happy at owning a team, not put a foot in his mouth each time he spoke, and have a vested interest in seeing the franchise succeed both on the court and off it in the Carolinas.
I emailed Rick Bonnell about this and he has no information regarding the team is up for sales. Other people have asked him though because there have been so many cuts etc, it looks like they are preparing to sell the team.
Another thought, we need a local person/group to buy. Do you think Skip Beck would buy more of it? He is already part owner and in the community. Just a thought....what happens with Jordan as well?

Wouldn't that just be BJ's portion of the team up for sale?

Thats cool, now if BJ did sell out, wouldnt that just be his share of the team?

The Shrimpucles is back. That being said, It's been a wake and bake kind of morning at 6am forgot it was Saturday and now I'm carousing about the sports sections and I just came across this article as well. Now obviously I don't know too much about the ownership aspect of an NBA team, but like so many have said before he's a shrewd business man who has a questionable interest in basketball itself which is still disappointing. Obviously the cats wouldn't be moving, but we'd perhaps get a new name if Top Bop were to be out right? Also can't remember who said it, but I'm with you on pooling our money, I've got about 200 bucks left on my paycheck I'd be willing to throw it in, but I'd like to be considered for the role of the Designated Drunk for team functions, practices, news conferences, halftime speeches, bus and plane travel. I know it's a lot of work, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. Too many players are going around getting caught up in this "Marijuana Menace" and it's because they don't have men like me there to smoke it for them, so they don't have to. I'm Shrimpy Jackson and I approve this message. On another note I'm going to go try my hand at this bulletin board thingy and see what my brain will throw out there. Catch you guys on the flipside! Oh! And I forgot my whole point of this was actually to ask who do you think a suitable buyer would be, and what do you think they could do to boost interest, minus the bandwagon fans of charlotte on occasion! There's got to be tons of fun shit we could think of. Any news on Michael Thompson? Was he part of the layoffs? It was nice having him around everyone once in a while.

Say it ain't so Bob. Just read an article saying Bob isn't planning on selling any time soon. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jtVob-p5x0wO5-WmdjxjptFkwhrwD93UGN9O0 At least he is a better owner than shinn was, as Bob has opened the checkbook to re-sign Mek, and got a real coach.
I bet Bob knows he would be selling low now and locking in his losses, and he's not about to do that. Once we get rolling and are consistenly in the playoffs with a full bandwagon is when I think he will sell. He might say dumb things, but he didn't become a billionaire by being completely dumb. (Nevermind CSET) Now if we could only get him to stop calling out Charlotte's business leaders..
