View Full Version : We need a 4
After reading the box scores, threads and recaps it is glaringly obvious we need a solid PF. Not a 4 who can give us 8 and 10 but one who can score at least 14 and grab 8 every game. These guys don't come cheap. Mek is not going to score enough to hold down the inside. We need an offensive 4.
I am on record several times throughout this board saying we can't trade Crash. However, he is the only player we can afford to lose who is also good enough to net the PF we need. We could trade him and still be alright at 3.
We have already established that Randolf and Curry are Hell NOOOOOOOs. The Nicks are looking to clear space for BronBron. How about trying to take David Lee, maybe Curry (cap space for them) and a draft pick for Crash and others. Crash will be good in D'Antoni's system, plus it will give them cap space. Of course, we would get rid of Curry as fast as possible.
Any other ideas would be good as I don't really follow cap space, contracts etc. Let's try to get us a 4. Who know's maybe Jordan reads this and is looking for ideas.

I'm all for Lee. I think he'll be a very solid PF as a starter.

Why would we give up our best player, Crash, to get Curry... only to turn around and get rid of Curry?
You want us to basically give them a player they want for nothing in return. You're not a Knicks fan are you?

May is gonna be alright once his condictioning comes along. He had a good half the other night aganist the magic he was just gassed after halftime. Give him a bit to get his legs under him. Alexis is also going to be a fine 4 as a matchup for the perimiter 4's before two long. He is along way from being able to box people out but we need sombody to match up with the Yi's and outside shooting 4's in the leauge.
Our biggest matchup problem is aganist the really big centers like the yao, or shaq varity. The best players we have to matchup are Naz and Oak and those guys are so outsized the just get dominated on the glass. Alexis might be able to help with this but it is at least 3 or 4 years down the road. Remember he is not even as old as a college senior.

Maxiel turned down Detroits offer so maybe they let him go for the right price. They are loaded at the 4 with Johnson, Brown, Wallace, McDyees and Fabio. Some of these players play the 5 but they could easily slide in at the 4. He is probably upset that Amir Johnson was named the starting 4 when he got no burn last year. I say we throw picks, Ammo or Carrol for Maxiel and Afflalo. This gives us options with our 3rd pg spot and then we could release someone for a roster spot if needed.

Oh, if only we hadnt traded Herrmann
I like the Pistons thought, Maxiel was tough last year. I hate the knicks. the thought was they won't deal Lee without at least giving up Curry or Randolph. The main part of the trade was Lee and draft picks for us. I could care less if we even bought Curry out.
Still begs the question of who will trade with us and what will we have to give...I'm all for Maxiel but honestly what would the Pistons want from our roster for him?

Don't know, but I really like Maxiel.

I went to yesterday's game and left quite disappointed. Sean May looks awful, I don't see anyone in the power forward or centre positions apart from Okafor having big minutes in a team which is not the Bobcats.
I am Spanish, and there is an undrafted guy there who would be starting in the Bobcats hands down. His name is Felipe REyes, he did a good job with the national team against the Redeem team. The problem is that he makes a lot of money, more than 2 million dollars a year, and I don't think that an NBA team would offer that money to a guy who hasn't showed anything in America.
Oh, and Ersan Ilyasova, a Turkish guy who used to play for the Nuggets, is starting to show he is a true NBA player with a Spanish team. He threw 20 points 14 rebounds against the Clippers a few hours ago. Great power forward this guy.

Bienvenidos, escaich. Good info on the game and possibilities overseas. I didn't get to watch the game the other night, but I'm fairly sure there's no PF on the Bobcats' roster that would start anywhere else in the league. At least not for the moment. Maybe if Sean May were better conditioned, but he's not and I don't remember ever seeing him in good condition while a Bobcat.
I remember watching Reyes play with Spain this summer. If my memory is correct (which it's often not), Reyes is a scrappy player with a good mid-range shot. I don't see Charlotte shelling out the cash to bring him in, though.

Thanks! I arrived here two months ago, and I have my season ticket :)
Yeah, Reyes is that player. Great rebounder, good mid range shot, plays with a lot of heart. But I know, it is difficult in terms of money.
I will be posting quite often, I need to be inside for news of what is to become my team haha

We sure do need a 4. We needed a 4 in a draft FULL OF 4s and managed to get not one of them. It was the team's most glaring need, but mgmt convinced itself that a messiah pg was out there who would somehow magically erase the need even though there was no concrete evidence in the league of this taking place (if they actually researched). They also convinced themselves that Sean May would come back (I sure hope he does, but damn sure would have had more insurance than we have) and keep them from looking bad for not picking up any of the PF options in the draft.
In Larry Brown's 2 trips to the finals with Detroit, he had:
Rasheed Wallace
Mehmet Okur
Antonio McDyess
Ask yourself, do we have any comparable PFs to any of these 3? Any with legitimate potential to be?

Ok, we need a 4, but I don't see us getting a really good one this year. I'm so tired of the whining coulda shoulda wouldas on this board. Yeah it's a glaring hole but damn we're pretty solid elsewhere, now lets move on this season and hope for the best next off season. I don't want to give up anything we have except garbage in a trade that couldn't happen in the NBA let alone fantasyland.

You obviously can't dwell on the past, but you have to recognize the issue which continues to re-present itself. They are going to need to make a move to get a modern day NBA 4 if they have any hopes of contention.
Again, if folks can tell me what teams are contenders without legit 4 men, I would love to hear it? Furthermore, what primarily halfcourt team contenders out there lack both a legit 4 and a serious consistent post scorer (our team keeps mentioning May as our best one)?

I still think that Chris Wilcox is a perfect fit here

I really think the FO is trying their best to work towards a solution with the 4 spot, but I don't think they'll do anything too drastic.

Hey, that's not true. First of all, I don't think there were many pure Pfs worth picking where we were picking DJ. And we actually trade for an extra pick to get a PF - hus name is Alexis Ajinça. There were some other PFs in late first round but some of them were kinda SFesque. We traded for Ajinça, I trust Larry that he knew what he was doing.

Speaking of Ajinca, how is he doing so far? I'm an out of state fan that doesn't get to see many Bobcat games so I don't get to see how people are doing. I loved the Ajinca pick this year and I wanted to know if he is going to be a part of the rotation this year.
He may become a good player in a year or two...so I'm willing to wait that long to evaluate him as a pick...as for this year IMO he'd be better served playing in the DLeague and adding 15-20 lbs. because he still looks lost on the floor.
I was (still am) a big fan of Jason Thompson...I thought we should have moved down a couple of spots draft night and taken him...my trade to Sacramento...
They like Crash so Crash and either May, Ammo, or M.Carroll for ...
Jason Thompson and Kenny Thomas...
They like Crash and if they take May or Ammo they don't have to keep them if they don't work out...Thomas has no role with them but can play SF with Duds and I think we'd be OK there....Thompson will be a solid player and we keep A. Brown to back him up...IMO we'd be a better all around team....Given the playing time this year I think Thompson would give us 12/8-14/10 and he's a good defender and has an excellent work ethic...

He is as raw as he can be. He was not even the best player in Europe in youth tournaments. The thing with him is that he has the possibility of becoming a great player, but there is a looong way to go.
