Time for a light-hearted thread:p
In light of the new rumors regarding Bob Johnson shopping the Bobcats, I was wondering if a change in name would also be in order?
Methinks of the Tampa Bay Rays dropping the Devil from their name and the very next season going to to Series...
So what do you guys think? Will we drop the cursed "Bobcats" moniker and pick up a luckier name? Will we keep the current name and try and work our way out of mediocrity?
Let's see what kind of creative names we can come up with!
I propose: the Pandas (no typo) or Queens (we play like girls and we're the Queen City) or the Alpacas (again, no typo)
Haha great proposals but on a serious note, here is a name that I always thought would be amazing:
Charlotte Royals
It's just a shame that KC has that name in MLB. Then again though, pro team names can be found across multiple leagues, for example the Florida and Carolina Panthers, or New York and San Francisco Giants to name two.
I just think that name would tie in so well with the history of city and how the name Charlotte even originated.
Charlotte Saints would also be very appropriate seeing as Charlotte is the "City of Churches" and all but obviously that would be impossible.

I think I would first try to follow the lead of the Panthers, and make the first name Carolina rather than Charlotte. Try to spread the identity to both North and South Carolina on a larger basis. Limiting it to Charlotte makes many feel left out. People from Greenville, SC and south are just as close to Atlanta, so to use the name Carolina will help them associate with the team. It worked for the Richardson family, so it would likely work for an NBA owner as well.
I kinda like the Intimidators. Kinda grabs that Dale Earnhardt moniker which fans ate up. Indicates a level of toughness and attitude. Remember when we had Zo and LJ. People knew if they came into the paint to expect war. We need some of that nasty toughness again, with a little Rick Mahorn and Bill Lambier thrown in for extra emphasis.

Ewww No Nascar references for my basketball team please.
Charlotte Knights - Obviously that is our baseball teams name but I really like it and I wonder if we could find a way to use it.
Charlotte Spiders - This was my favorite last time we were choosing names.

I think it was part of the arena deal with the NBA that Charlotte be used and not Carolina. I could be wrong but I seem to remember reading that.
If the team were to change names I'd actually like to do a throwback to the ABA team that played in Charlotte and go with the Cougars, though that is awfully similar to the Bobcats. However on the more original side, how about the Charlotte Renegades?

I always liked the Cougars, and I agree with O'Hara that Carolina instead of Charlotte would be better, so just like the old ABA team the Carolina Cougars. Just think, LB would have come full circle, coaching the carolina cougars in the early 70's, (to the playoffs twice, I might add) and now.

I'm with Ohara as well not only does Carolina over Charlotte sound better but most importantly maybe it would also stop those intelligent folks in the media from refering to the Cats as the Hornets.
I like the idea about going back to the ABA name also.

Maybe they'd start calling us the Panthers instead:rolleyes:
I like the Royals, that one sounds really good as it plays off the Queen City thing.
Cougars is actually really cool too as it would play off the Panthers a lot better than Bobcats!
How about the Carolina Cheese&Winers  cheese and wine crowd.. lotsa whiners... get it?.. GET IT?!...

We should go back to a play on our roots:
The Charlotte Africanized Bees
or my personal favorite:
Charlotte Blue-Footed Boobies
Think of all the marketing ideas: how many of you guys would get your "Got Boobies?" shirts for gametime?

Or maybe the Carolina Horny Toads? (for obvious reasons)

I kind of the like the names Renegades, Enforcers and Force. They just seem to have a nice ring for me.

Yea, I like Renegades. That's why I mentioned it a few posts back.
Don't know about Force though. I can just imagine all the corny article titles that would reference Star Wars.

I mean Renegades is okay. I just don't see how it would fit with Charlotte's history that well lol
Force wouldn't fly with me. I'm not normally too big on plural NBDL team names like the Thunder or Magic

I'm shocked no one said it yet, so I'll go ahead and do it:
Charlotte Ham Biscuits
