FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHARLOTTE BOBCATS WAIVE JERMAREO DAVIDSON
ROSTER NOW STANDS AT 14 PLAYERS
October 27, 2008 – The Charlotte Bobcats today requested waivers on forward Jermareo Davidson. The Bobcats roster now stands at 14 players.
Davidson appeared in three preseason games with averages of 2.0 points, 0.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shot in 8.8 minutes.
Originally drafted by Golden State with the 36th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Davidson’s draft rights were acquired from the Warriors, along with Jason Richardson, in exchange for Brandan Wright, whom the Bobcats selected with the eighth overall pick.
In his rookie season, he appeared in 38 games with averages of 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.4 minutes.
Bobcats Sports & Entertainment is the parent company of the Charlotte Bobcats and operates the widely-acclaimed Time Warner Cable Arena.

What sense does it make to dump him and keep Twiggy? but I can't say I'm the least bit surprised he seemed to be in the Larry Brown dog house or something rarely got any burn this preseason.

I hear you.....my dad said that WFNZ had Higgins on air after practice and he said that teams r always calling about Morrison but they think that he is playing REALLY well today and they dont plan to trade him.

I know! Why keep Hollins? I'd much rather keep Super Mareo:mad:

hollins is a center...thats the only thing that keeps him around but i cant seen them cutting davidson in at thin PF unless they are working on getting someone in that going to play

Unless something bigger is going down I think they got rid of the wrong tall lanky guy. Super Jermario at least had some offensive game, not so for twiggy

...or put another way, at least Hollins has some defensive game, not so Davidson.
Still something smells here. I don't understand why Davidson got no PT during the preseason.
Hollins did play some PF last year, especially quite a bit in the preseason. He did ok; well ok for Hollins. He's big, long and he runs reasonably well.

Somethings up- no way Silent Bob would give away 700k just to open up a roster spot for the hell of it. I suspect we will sign some scrub free agent with a big body and some sort defensive/rebounding presence. If it was a trade I believe they wouldn't have cut anybody and just tried to include the salary so as not to have to pay somebody for nothing.

Maybe there's a multi-player trade in the works and they need an open roster spot to play all the newcomers. I have NO idea what I'm talking about.

I saw this one coming judging by the way Jermareo was at practice today. I kinda felt bad for him because he looked LOST. LB kept correcting him the few times he was in there...and he just looked bad too, he looked easily winded and could barely get off the ground jumping. That being said, I hope he catches on with a team who will give him so burn and I hope he finds success
He always seemed like a nice guy to me but for some reason he never really came across as a very smart dude in his interviews and let's be honest, you have to have some brains to be able to understand what the hell Larry Brown is talking about. LB probably lost patience with him.
I'm not counting on anything "big" going down. I just think we got rid of a player that wasn't going to be used. As we all know, LB starts cleaning house everywhere he coaches at one point or another.

Just from the games last year, it seemed to me that Jermareo at least had SOME game while Hollins, to me, is a complete waste. Hopefully he's gone in a trade and Jermareo's spot was just needed for part of a trade. At least we can hope.

I'm perplexed too. My guess is that Hollins responded better to Brown's coaching than Davidson, which is the only reason Hollins is still a Bobcat. Hollins has some sick raw athleticism, which could be amazing if Brown can tap into it. Perhaps that's a reason for hope? Maybe Brown just has a thing for 7 feet tall guys under 220?
This is quite a curious move. Since we'd likely have to send more guys out than coming in (salaries), I'm guessing the move was in preparation to sign a player rather than make a trade.

No doubt.
I mean, if we created roster space do accomodate a 2 for 1 and we were sending out the 1 and getting the 2 back, I would HATE to think of the quality of the 2 we would be getting back!!

"The Charlotte Bobcats plan to use their open roster spot to sign Linton Johnson, a forward with a strong defensive presence, the Observer has learned."
"Johnson has played at the fringes of the NBA since the 2003-04 season, spending time with the Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets and New Orleans Hornets. His strongest showing was in Chicago, where he started 20 games during the ’03-04 season. Johnson was with the Washington Wizards this preseason before being waived a week ago."
There goes the roster spot, but really? Unless he plays significant time at the 4, what's the point of this pickup?

Exactly, hard to move vertically when we continue to make lateral moves...
Though I'm far from pessimistic, I'm just a fan who wants to see winning! Despite 0-8 in the preseason, they actually looked like they were trying to run plays, something hard to see last year..which makes me happy.

Kind of upset Jermareo Was released, I like him and thought he had potential, but Brown must really see something in Johnson to bring him in and keep Hollins as well...Hopefully he can turn Hollins into something...
So wonder who starts now at PF? Brown, May, Johnson? It said Johnson may get some starts too...

Dudley shows as much size and more weight than this guy . I would have rather took a chance on Ewing. Its got to br a good reason picking up another wing.
Crash kinda looked unhappy to day too.
Got a feeling we might be going to do somthing big kinda like '.
Odom for CRASH and Morrison
I have no idea whats going on but we can't be finished with that signing . It makes no sence.

The other guy mitchened in the artical a Center?????
Somthing else has to be up two for one or somthing ? This don't address our p/f problem at all????????

Wow, I'm really excited about this. Linton Johnson. Really excited.
Oops ack I just spit-up on my keyboard.
why would we trade crash and ammo for odom? odom is in a contract year and will not resign with Char. he is not going to want to play for larry in a "system" scheme which does not highlight his scoring when he is trying to pile up stats for next year. plus he is old. i would have to say no deal on this one.

Im not saying Odom is the deal but signing another s/f don't make no sence at al unless we making a trade for a p/f, All so talk about signing jones all so makes me think a two for one is in the works. Jones is a center with bad numbers go figure????????

Good points Chef.
Clearly LB knows every single available free agent out there and will hand pick the best he can to provide the toughness he wants for the team.
Lots of players like that out there.
If I was Hollins, I'd be nervous. But we'll see. Bonnell mentioned Dwayne Jones.....plus LB still wants that veteran pg...frankly he needs a veteran pg; but I have no idea who that might be.

I'll be surprised if they DON'T sign Dwayne Jones as well. A good call by Bonnell. Classic, tough, C/F with some Offensive game. Replaces Hollins as 3rd Center while joining the PF committee...much more skilled than Ryan I'm afraid.
I don't think LB is messing around.
Granted these guys are on the margins of the NBA; but they're the tough - efficient edge that knows how to go to war for a good coach.
Interesting.

Okay, so my computer's been down for a few days now so I'm only getting spotty on-line time, but let me just say that I'm thouroughly confused at what the bobcats are doing here. I've gotta hope there's some master plan behind it, but I just don't know if I can count on that.
Also, I feel sorry for Jermareo that he made less money than Sean May. Otherwise, I'd hope that Sean would have been cut instead, because that fatass is not deserving of a roster spot (read: job) until he shows that he can actually get in shape (read:does his job).

The highest Jones has ever averged is 1.4ppg and 2,2 rpg . Thats don't seem that impressive . Unless hes a monster on defence. Hes all so listed as a center not a p/f
Hollins seens to post better numbers . But i have no idea about either guy .But i don't think a 6.7 205 pound small foward is Larry Browns answer to our p/f problem.
If I had to guess (and I'm having to) I would doubt that this is the only move...bringing in another wing defender leads me to think they've had an some calls about one of our wings that may have at least given them (FO) pause...but it is confusing since Ammo seems to be playing better (but I doubt we'd get value for him and I'm not convinced we want to trade him) and LB has given every indication he does not want to trade Crash...so I'm left with Duds and Matt and I'm not sure the return we could get with either...Duds is still very much a role player and as much Matt crush as I've seen on the forum most people think he has little value...I do think he has value since his contract goes down every year and he brings good perimeter shooting to a good team in need of such...but not clear on what we could get in return unless we give one or both of our second rounders with him...thoughts?
Here is a link with info on Linton Johnson for those interested...

Jermareo was always easy to pull for because of the personal tragedies that occurred in succession during his senior year at Alabama. Hate to see him go in favor of guys like Hollins and May, but whatever Larry and Rod are doing, it's to improve the team, so as a Bobcats fan I'm okay with it. As a Jermareo fan, I hope he lands on his feet somewhere and has a solid career, whether in the NBA or overseas.
**********
I'm also of a mind that this Johnson signing signals more change; I had a gut feeling last night Matt Carroll would be moved, and today's activity makes me feel even more certain he may be part of a trade package for a 4. They've further glutted the 3 spot, so somebody or somebodies HAVE to be on the move in the not-too-distant future...
Give 'em hell, Larry!!!!!!

Didn't Atlanta have some serious interest in Matt last season? I believe there's some value in Matt out there. I don't think his contract is that bad since though it is lengthy, the pay declines each year. I bet there are some teams out there that need his kind of a role player and would be willing to part with a back-up PF (still better than our starters) to get it.

I think that signing a defensive minded wing means that Hammer or Ammo will be gone before too long opening up a spot for a make shift PF.
I think the Bobcats FO is working the phones pretty hard right about now.

Agreeded i would all so add Wallace will be a lot of conversations all so. Hollins might all so be involved all so with talk of picking up Jones. Two for one.
I'm not sold that LB wants to trade Crash...and if Crash starts the season at his natural 3...plays well...which I think he will...he'd have a heck of a lot more value before the trade deadline...
I'm more inclined to think if a trade is coming that Matt or Ammo will be the one traded....

So do I though it is feasible that Crash could be the one to go. I put low odds on it though. Larry Brown preaches D and he challenged Crash before preseason to step up his D and rebounding. He delivered.
Queen City Hoops (http://www.queencityhoops.com)
Gerald Wallace contributed more. I am hestitant to single out an individual player, but the numbers make a case for Gerald having a large part in the defensive resurgence. His defensive rebound rate was up nearly 25% from last season, going from 15.3% to 19.2% and his block rate increased by over 40%, from 1.9 to 2.7. His per 40 minute numbers: 9.8 total rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.5 blocks. If he carries that into the regular season, he could push Jason Richardson to be the franchise's first All-Star.
Brett has a good write up on our guys defensively (the offensive article isn't so good!) and I'd recommend everyone check it out.

getting harrington might make sense..
if the following is true:
"Brown said before camp he had three roster priorities: Adding a veteran third point guard, having at least two wing defenders and knowing he has at least five big men he can trust to be in the rotation."
we're still missing a veteran PG - don't think it's happening anytime
two wings defenders - Wallace/Linton Johsnon
five big men - mohammed/okafor/andre brown + possibly may (3 mins/quarter)
not sure if we are really close to having 2 or three reliable big men.. but i think that filling in the 4 or 5 spot is the top priority right now.

I really doubt it would be Crash, unless it's a "deal you can't say no to" type thing.
My thinking is that LB wants a scorer and a defensive wing tandem in the 2nd unit - meaning Ammo or Hammer at the 2 and III at the 3. That would make one of either Hammer or Ammo the odd man out.
IMO.
