View Full Version : Miami Heat at Charlotte Bobcats 11/1

Tonight we have our home opener against the Miami Heat.
How many of you guys are going to be in the Cable Box tonight:?
I think that tonight we have a good chance at a win. We have to deal with Shawn Marion, impressive rookie Michael Beasley and oh yeah... Dwyane Wade. Lets hope we can keep Wade from running wild on us, we don't want another occurrence of this:

So is tonight the night that we get win #1 ?

Keetch

I'll be there.
But I'm not optimistic about a win....
Wade
Marion
Beasley
...are 3 elite players. We don't have ANY elite players. We do have some bad players though (not gonna name names)
..plus its arguable that Chalmers is already a better PG than either Felton or Augustin. I've watched both of the Heats first 2 games, and he's pretty steady for a rookie. Felton can be phenomenal, for either good or bad; but he has never really been "steady".
We do have an advantage inside though with Okafor playing against Haslem. So Haslem will probably take the ball out to the wing and fire away leaving Okafor standing around waiting for Wade to drive into him.
We had 11 BA's last game (that's times we got stuffed/blocked), which is ridiculous. Looking at other boxscores, I see 4's, 5's or even 8's. But no 11's. Well one 11.
Okay there I've gone negative...now somebody slam me down! I can take it!
Go Bobcats!

I'm interested to see if we're even gonna attempt to step up our rebounding game tonight. With a front line of Haslem, Beasley, and Marion, it's gonna be tough to gobble up those boards. But here's to hoping Andre Brown sees some time and helps get our rebounding numbers up

Ammofan,
Your boy has been more impressive than I expected. However, I'd temper your expectations. He's not panacea to our ills, nor is he showcasing game changing skills.
I would like to see him used more though. We'll have to see. Ammo against Wade or Marion sounds like a boo-boo in the making.

Is "sore back" the same thing as "pain in the neck"?
Let's hope one of the other guys takes this opportunity to assert himself into the starting line-up.

^ 'tis a sensible standpoint. The minute Adam starts racking up points, the Heat're gonna throw some of their best at him which would make for a boo-boo as dnbman colourfully put it. I'm not sure we can label him as being improved after only a single game (preseason games are of void value), give it time, in hope we persevere.
My take on tonight's game, Bobcats win by 7+ points, leading scorer - Wallace - 16+.

I don't expect a win tonight, Heat is a team with three main players, and they're playing accordingly this fact. LB tries to make our team a "whole", but this is apparently not going to happen in a few games.

So this is my first time posting but Ive been a Cats fan since the Hornets were ripped away and they were "the future Charlotte franchise". Any way I'm trying to figure out if I have a legitimate gripe here. I'm in Fayetteville NC (East NC) and when I try to watch the Bobcats on Dish Network I'm Blacked Out on the alt sports channel and the NBA League Pass channel. On Fox Sports Net they are showing the Hawks game (which is also Blacked Out). Dish Network already isn't sure if they will get NBA League Pass this season and now I cant even watch the Bobcats games when I could watch them all last year on News14 and FSN with TimeWarnerCable. Any one have similar problems and/or experience arguing Black Outs?

Big time! At this point, the best thing we can do is just keep calling people (Bobcats' office, FSN and your cable provider). There's a lot of discussion in one of the other forums including some info from a guy that works with the Bobcats. It can be found in the "bobcats talk" folder.

Thanks, I didnt want to go off on people over the phone if I didnt have a reason but if I cant get IN-STATE games and they end up not getting NBA League pass I taking it as high as I can and trying to get out of my contract so I can go with DirecTV or TWC. Ya but at least finding another game on the nights I'm cheated out of the Bobcats will ease the pain. Even with what Crash is doing tonight the streams just aren't doing it for me.
I really couldn't see any potential deals where we get ANYTHING close to what Crash gives us. I've seen members on here mention him for trades before, who were they potentially thinking about getting? I'm sure whoever it is wont hold Shawn Marion to 7 points and drop 30+.

Games against non playoff teams who have not improved all that much since last season are games the Bobcats should win. It's the games against last years playoff teams who also have improved that I expect the Bobcats to struggle early on. If the Bobcats can win the games that are supposed to be winnable early in the season, I expect them to compete and win some games against last years playoff teams after a month or a bit longer.

tonight, we look like we're on our way. This is a good sign and I don't want to rain on everybody's parade but the Cats will be on their way when they beat the top teams in the NBA. The heat has a rookie head coach and they did not do all that much to improve from a fifteen win team last year. So I agree that the Bobcats look good but can they look this good against the top teams from last year who have gotten even better this season? I think they will be competitive against top teams but they probably won't win a lot of those match ups early on. They also need to get solid contributions from their current PF's since it doesn't look like the Bobcats are looking to add a new one. If that happens the Bobcats will make the playoffs and maybe even finish higher than a 8th seed.

Win #1!!!
We'll still have trouble against larger teams, but us fans and the players badly needed a win. Sure it's all a building process and we only have one win, but this is an important step.
Wallace would not be denied tonight. Also much improved games from Okafor and Felton (think LB got on him about attempting 10 shots? he only had 4 tonight). A great win!

Totally agreed. No doubt LB will find something to complain about...like the FTs and TOs, but we also killed them in rebounding (as we should have) and the offense looked good! I didn't see all the game like many of you, but when it was on we moved the ball very well and we didn't fall into the taking a quick shot trap seldom if at all.

This is the way our PGs should play. Each with minutes in the 20s, and more assists than points. We've got such potential production in Gerald, Swish and Mek (as seen tonight) that if they'll just facilitate, then the team will play better. Ray's 6 rebounds and 8 dimes were more impactful than what he can do with points.

Yo Amour217 it was great to meet the champion of the Ham Biscuit haha I had to remind Dnbman how famous you are :)
I can't express in strong enough terms how wonderful it is to see Larry Brown sitting on the bobcats bench. It was a revelation.
Imagine a coach who doesn't spend 2/3 of every timeout standing at the free-throw wondering what to do. That didn't remotely happen.
Imagine a coach who in INTENSELY into every play of every game.
Imagine Larry Brown.
...and Michael Jordan sitting at the end of the bench....joined by Charles Oakley in the 2nd Half....after the game folks just wouldn't leave that corner of the court until MJ walked off....there were "Charles Oakley" chants haha. We need more MJ in the Arena.
This was the good Felton; the one that doesn't force himself on the game.
I would be happy if we played AMMO for the final 30 seconds of every quarter...and let him shoot it!

Great work from the guys all around.
I LOVE that LB has the team going small. I have said it before and stand by it. Gerald Wallace as a combo forward 3/4 is our best player and a potential all-star. Gerald as a pure 3, not as much.
I hope we use the starting lineup we used tonight as much as possible. It gives us the best combination of DEFENSE, slashing, and shooting that we can have.
Fromage
11-02-2008, 01:10 AM
anyone who watched tonight would say that performance was indicative of a team that is well coached, trying to function as a unit, and working to employ a system and a strategy. its been a while, and its sure nice to see. its just an entirely different team than what sam put on the floor for most of last year. isomeone bring me back to earth but i think some of the areas of improvement are pretty striking. will it mean lots of wins right away? maybe not, but even in the cleveland game there were signs we were playing some better ball. with a little luck, this might be a fun season.
also-
while he didn't shoot well, i swear i see some great things going on with adam. my impression is that the guy will fit right in to the brown system - the ball movement thing. he had several great passes for key buckets tonight, even a few rebounds. more importantly, he almost started to look comfortable. when that happens, dude is gonna be ok. prediction: adam is a respectable 6th man for this team in a few months.

Great game...They looked night and day better tonight then at any point in preseason. I said before the game Gerald needed to get more involved offensively. He had a very productive 32 tonight. J Rich shot lights out, and was money off screens. That is the smoothest our ball movement was in 2 years...I'm already feeling much better about this team. Even Emeka shot the ball well...Great effort! That was the thing that stood out the most for me from all the good things that occurred tonight: ball movement was phenomenal....I never have seen it so good (then again, after last year, my memory is scarred from anything pre-Larry). There was an especially great sequence in the first half (1st qtr, I believe) where we passed the ball in and out and around the perimeter and Felton I think drove and kicked out to JRich for an open 3 on the wing with 4 seconds left on the shot clock...he made it!!! but even with a miss, that was a fucking offense at work right there and I nearly shed tears:cool:
Glad to see the layoffs didn't do anything to hamper the arena experience: still the nice courteous staff, free programs, same priced eats. Did notice the Bobcat blimp-thingy was nowhere to be seen; but I always thought that was a waste of energy anyway...I mean, pizza vouchers that dropped from its ass at random?
My new seats in 214 are most excellent!!! but there was a ton of traffic that kept coming up the damn stairs and blocking my view now and then. Still, love the Rooftop and its drunk/vociferous denizens: the DWade-hating was in full effect and we collectively drove nearby Heat fans out of their seats for good midway through the 3rd. HAHAHHAHAHA!!!!
Also, glad to see the big turnout, though it was a kinda quiet crowd, though with the constant calling of TOs by Miami, the flow of the game never got to the point the crowd in general could get to a fever pitch.
And Keetch, I saw MJ sitting over your way and wondered if you called him out for not coming to more games. I wouldn't expect any less, bud!
Overall, that was the most fun game I've seen in quite a while and for the first time EVER for the Bobcats, I see something special happening down the road...

Very well played game tonight. I believe our key role/position with Brown's system is the PG, no doubt. When Ray & DJ have the offense running smoothly we just look good. I'm looking for good possessions and that eventually will go a long way. Steady progression should be our motto this year, Ray shoots awful from the field on Thursday and tonight was very selective with the shot selection....good stuff. Fun to see good basketball from this team, hope we can keep it up.
Lastly, we will not miss Sean May. What we will miss is a "healthy" Sean May. There are a lot of fans that have given up on May but I truly believe if he can get in shape he will definitely help us at that 4 spot. Here's to Sean's healthy return because we are a better team when he is producing.
PS - Will we go as far as G. Dub, J-Rich, and our PG take us this year?

I don't expect a win tonight, Heat is a team with three main players, and they're playing accordingly this fact. LB tries to make our team a "whole", but this is apparently not going to happen in a few games.
I bet DJ would have 4+ TO's :(
I admit that I was too negative. But I'm glad about it. I'm not sure whether we should expect these performances from GS night in and night out, however, he's definitely underrated.
And yes, my prediction about DJ is right on the eye :D

oh yeah and whats goin on with okafor? he looked worth 12 million... i have to say i was happy last night, now we have to keep it up
A few observations from the game that I haven't heard anyone touch on yet . . .
1) LB never quit screaming and talking to the team the whole game. It was AWESOME. Constant coaching from buzzer to buzzer. You could hear him in the lower bowl clearly ALL GAME. Such a stark contrast from Biscuit.
2) The intro video was great. It was tough and gritty and I feel it encapsulated the spirit of the team. My favorite intro video in our 5 year history. Each starter looking up at the camera slowly.
3) Okafor didn't bobble passes under the basket like normal. I wonder if last year really was a fluke where he was lost in Biscuit's non-system.
4) The flags outside the arena, pillars at the entrance, etc. where left unchanged from last year. There were definately some "short on money, short on staff" things I noticed. No media guide at all. Last years was the only one available. The box score on the huge screen was gone. The program was really, really thin too.
It was loads of fun. One of the best games I've been too and my first in the lower bowl!
Anyone else buy half price pistons tickets? I got row b behind the basket, section 109 for under $40 a ticket!!! It's going to be great! Freaking row B in the lower bowl!

Ok finally here's my many observations from the game:
* It's obvious the Arena is hurting personnel-wise: the gates opened late and the bulk of the employees seemed to not care. I set off the metal detector and the guy just waved me through anyhow.
* The players were signing from 6-6:30, which is cool...but there was no signs saying where this was. I asked one of the bored-looking employees and she just shrugged. So I ended up just going to my seat. At 6:27, they made the announcement that the players were signing until 6:30....AT 6:27!!! Come on guys!
* Quite a bit of Heat fans in my section, which is great because they were dying the whole game lol
* I liked the intro a lot: very high-energy and the crowd was really amped tonight, which was awesome
* Ladycats facing a budget crunch too? I'm used to frequent wardrobe changes from them...tonight only one. Not bad, though.
* On to the game: it started out really sloppy and had me worried...we were telegraphing our passes and it was obvious even from section 211. Wade pretty much strolled into the lane for an easy layup really early, but eventually we grew some balls and remembered that we were basketball players. Udonis Haslem was killing Okafor with that baseline jumper, it looked like he was gonna do it all day. But then the team woke up and began to play hard...and it was obvious. They hustled for rebounds, hustled for loose balls, and moved the ball very well.
* Biggest sign of a good game: we didn't settle for early/difficult jump shots. What I saw out there was not a jump-shooting team. The Bobcats were aggressive and focused...and I LOVED it
* DJ scared me at first, picking up 2 fouls in like 3 seconds or something like that...but then he settled down and ran that team extremely well. Both our PGs did a phenominal job last night by focusing on distributing the ball as opposed to scoring. Crash, Swish, and Mek took care of all that and it worked beautifully.
* Horrible job of not putting up the scoring totals on the screen....that kinda has you lost during the game. If I didn't look up on bobcats tv in the 4th quarter while Crash was shooting a free throw, I would've never known he had 31 points at that point in the game.
* Gerald Wallace is a freaking monster. Those blocks were sick.
* We embarrassed and dismantled the Miami Heat that night and it was beautiful to watch. Now we have to keep in mind that the Heat are a smaller team and our smaller lineup responded quite well...we need to find just as good a balance with a bigger lineup, though.
* I felt bad for Matt Carroll...they had him address the crowd before tip-off, then benched him the whole game :(
