View Full Version : Carroll's Future

Anyone feel that Carroll might be traded soon? Seems like LB is going with Ammo as the designated scorer off the bench now. Carroll got ZERO minutes in our game against the Heat..that was a big surprise to me. Nazr also got zero minutes which is kinda weird also i think. maybe they'll both be packaged to get us a legit PF?

Wishful thinking here but I wish we could get Frye from Portland, he is a starter talent.

Sean Williams and Al Harrington and Eddy Curry are on the trading block
playoffs...PLAYOFFS?
11-01-2008, 10:46 PM
i agree...i got the impression that we may be trading away carroll, i guess with his salary it would make sense.
don't think we really needed nazr tonight, they don't have a good center either

Of the two mentioned in the post two above this one, I would want Williams. I would give Williams the nod because of his defensive ability. I think he could develop into a Josh Smith type of player, minus the outside shot. But we also have Ajinca who is supposed to be a decent shooter. It would give us a great young 1-2 punch at the PF. This is all based on the development of these two players of course.

couple of trades that will work
Nazr &Matt for Curry
Nazr and Matt for Harrington and B.Wright (i think GS needs a PG more than a SG and C tho)
and the best IMO is
Sean Williams and Trenton Hassle for Matt Carroll,we'd need to cut someone tho, probably LJ III............would help them part ways with V.Carter

I agree with catsfan on the third trade, be perfect as we would be getting two defensive players for an unused shooter. It would also give the nets a nice compliment to LeBron when they sign him as a free agent... maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself.

a couple pro's & cons about the NJ trade
Pros
Give the cats a athletic center and a wing who dosen't always shoot
Give NJ a shooter and helps there log jam at the 4&5 with Yi,Boone,Najera,Swift and there 1st rounders Lopez and Anderson
easier to lose VC,wouldn't have to play a scrub (Mo Ager),Carroll does IMO have a future in this league
gets more PT to CDR in NJ
Cons
Carrol's 5 year contract, they want to clear some space for LBJ
BUT^^^ NJ's plan to move to Brooklyn is on pause, with the economy the Barcalys center is not under construction in the foreseeable future
so NJ has 4 plans
wait for Brooklyn in there current dump
play in the Islanders dump in Staten Island
move to the NJ Devils new arena(would probably have a long term lease)
and the long shot, some how play in MSG,which would be hard to schedule another team with the Rangers,Knicks,St.Jhons,NY titans,NY Liberty,Big East Tourny, and NIT,and Concerts and other events
along with Bruce ranter, who is rumored to be looking for suiters to buy the team
LBJ ain't gonna play 2nd fiddle in NJ,he wants the big lights of NYC
ALong13

I'd like to get Sean Williams from NJ if we were going to trade him, I like Carroll though and would miss him, but we got too many wings and we really do need a true PF...though Williams isn't really a PF either...
Frye or Outlaw from Portland would be nice...but thats wishful thanking...
I doubt that it means anything other than LB trying different players/combos....Ammo going 1-6 against the Heat is not going to make LB want to trade Matt...also LB probably wants to see how Adam can hold up since he has not played since his injury...or maybe he is being showcased for an interested team...or none of the above...no one really knows...

How can you imagine that Nets or Cavs taking Carroll's albatross contract? They are trying to save money for 2010.
Let me tell you Carroll's future. He won't play unless we need a three pointer for the win. We'll stick to him for at least 2 more years. He won't play while LB is here.

All this talk of trading Matt (which I'm not entirely opposed to) tells me that he's gonna have a huge good game against Detroit on Monday.
Keetch
11-02-2008, 08:37 AM
LOL Muttley you're probably right.
At worst, I'm thinking that Matt's just progressed down the bench. He's been playing like a 11th or 12th man; and now he is. In the event of injuries he'll see some playing time. He still has value.
At best? What Muttley said.
Just cause a guy gets no PT doesn't mean there's a trade on the way.
I think every player on the team is being evaluated by LB and they should be...he wants to win and unlike some folks I think we have players that want to win...they just have not had a coach that could help them get there until now...
A couple of things that excite me already is LB seems to be more toned down himself since the fiasco that was the Knicks...the players (even our top-tier players Swish, Crash, and EO50) look a bit more intense and seem to be willing to work the LB schemes...with that said LB has always let loose the reins on his teams during the season as long as the player stayed within the overall game plan...I think the Heat game gives an indication of what they can do together as a team and I'm glad that all of our players are being evaluated to see where they fit...

I myself think something is going on with Carroll because he could have provided some scoring last night also when they put Ammo in on Quinn they could have brought in Carrol sometimes also. With that said maybe a trade for Stromile and Williams would be a nice fit for us while cutting Hollins to make the moneys work. Both players provide toughness on the boards and defense while we loose Carroll's shotting touch. The team showed what they are capable of doing against the Heat but they can be tougher.
MattD

i highly doubt that matt gets moved this season... his contract is a bit wild.
Keetch
11-02-2008, 11:12 AM
I thought it was cool that LB put Ammo on Quinn, since Quinn is no factor offensively. It gave the Bobcats a free pass to use Ammo in the offense with no pain on the other end.

11-02-2008, 11:43 AM
Why does Eddie Curry's name keep tpopping up in trade talks on this board, Why is my only question...Why?
I have been surprised at how little PT Carroll got in preseason and the first two games. I'd much rather have Carroll on the court then Raymond or DJ at SG. I'd hate to see him go but if he can bring in a productive PF then we gotta do what we gotta do.
I'd also like to thank god and/or Allah for letting Morrison make it through the preseason this year...Actually everyone except Sean May who will never be healthy. The injury countdown is on knowing the Bobcats, Who will it be first?

I really doubt Stro is LB's kind of player. He doesn't seem to have basketball IQ high enough for Larry's systems.
docend24
11-02-2008, 02:53 PM
Maybe Matt is quite tired because of his new child. I think either Larry prefers other options better suited for what he wants or he just rotate non-core players and let them rest or play. Or something completely different.
Allah means God in arabic, btw. Just choose one:)

do u guys think carroll is gonna be traded now? i find it extremely awkward not seeing carroll play in two games straight. he was always one of our most consistent players in terms of not getting injured or whatever. it really does feel weird without him so if we're not going to play him i hope we can get a legit PF out of some kind of deal at least.

Yea, you would think he'd at least get PT in garbage time
I don't think that Carroll fits in as well as say Brown or Morrison.
Carroll shoots the ball well...that's about it
Brown can drive to the basket and take 3s. Morrison can take 3s just as well, and post down low and has more size the Carroll. I think once Morrison gets more comfortable with his knee he might start driving in more.
I just think Carroll is a pretty limited player..We got him hoping to win games off 3s last year, something that is not effective in the long run

I just think Carroll is a pretty limited player..
with a pretty ridiculous contract.
Shannon Brown pretty much sealed Matt Carroll's future minutes last night in Detroit. I personally think he brings much more to the table than MC.

Even worse - if he gets traded, the game hammmer awards on realgm would have to be renamed. Sad thing.

I agree with you. Shannon Brown really looked good last night. His athletic and defensive abilities are way out of Carrol's league.
With his contract, does Matt have any trade value at all? I don't think he has much, if any.
If not, then having a 3 point specialist as a 10th-12th man is the best we can expect from him.

We also get our pick back from Denver.
Denver dumps both players (who according to Hoopshype they are willing to give up a pick to do so) for an expiring in May and a backup for JR Smith. Just like all the other trades involving Hammer the years on his contract might make DEN hesitate.
GSW gets rid of Harrington for a PG they desperately need and save 1.2 million in salary this year. The twist is Hunter's next year's salary.
Would it be better if GSW got the pick?
Muttley
11-05-2008, 11:34 AM
I like it. I think that from GSW's perspective they'd be okay with it so long as they'd come to grips with Harrington really not wanting to be there. I also like that we add Atkins AND Watson. It'd still be putting a good bit more pressure on DJ to perform, but we might just find out how good he is and will be at running this team tonight when we play the Knickerbockers.
The question would probably be with Denver, but Carroll's contract is decreasing, which, if they like him, may be just enough to seal the deal.
i find it extremely awkward not seeing carroll play in two games straight. he was always one of our most consistent players in terms of not getting injured or whatever.
I've been feeling the exact same way and I think your use of the word "awkward" is the perfect way to sum it up.
He's the ultimate blue collar underdog, which is what attracted most of us to him. It's almost sad to see what is happening with him.
The bettermeant of the team is more important though.
To Spectre:
:rock::rock: (couldn't find the hands clapping one!!)
This is a seriously well thought out idea - and helps all teams.
Well done!! I think it has a whole lot of merit for all teams involved.
I don't think that Harrington is right for us, but his $9 mil coming off the books at the end of the season would be sweeeeetttttttttttttt (frees up a little room so we could make a run for someone like Boozer or Lamar in the FA market!!)
I'd actually switch out CJ for Williams though. I know you some people aren't high on him, but I'm telling you, the kid can play. Think about all the stuff Swish said about Nellie. He can't coach. During time outs Nellie would just stand there silent.
I think that Williams, in the right environment, would be an excellent back up.
Plus, he earns more so if we hate him, we let him walk at the end of the season and it's an extra $1.2 mil off the books and more money (combined with Harrington's) that we can use to throw at Boozer/Lamar.
Let Atkins run the point while DJ learns. Then, hopefully DJ takes over mid season and Atkins backs him. During that time, Williams "gets it", we trade Atkins for an expiring so his numbers come off the books at the end of the year (even more money for use to attract FA's) and we resign Williams on the cheap (4 years, 8 mil?)
Then we have our PG rotation locked down and a lot of money to play the FA market!!
AND we get our pick back!!
A++++++++++ to you!!

Thanks Slam! I know LB was already interested in Akins, so seeing that DEN is willing to let him go AND throw in a pick...well, couldn't just let that one pass by!
Think about all the stuff Swish said about Nellie. He can't coach. During time outs Nellie would just stand there silent.Did Swish say that too? I know CJ Watson did in his blog right after they picked him up.
Hilarious!
Williams (according to ESPN's trade machine) has a trade exception so he can't be dealt...I'm thinking until December 15th. I'd have no problem swapping him and CJ though.
The question would probably be with Denver, but Carroll's contract is decreasing, which, if they like him, may be just enough to seal the deal.Yeah, that and GSW taking an extra year of Hunter's contract. Getting a big need like Felton though should placate them. Worse comes to worst I guess we can blow off the pick from DEN.

This is a very well thought out trade idea and I LOVE it. Getting the pick back is great but I'd do it w/o it for sure if we had to. They could keep it or send it to the Warriors. Keeping it may help them absorb the blow of taking back Carroll's contract.
Great stuff!!

Help me figure out how to move Kleiza. The difference this year for DEN (around 500k) will put them in luxury. I suppose we could always take him and throw in NOK's 2nd to them? Then of course we'd have to cut someone. III?

Aktins/Augustin/Watson (swtich them if you like)

After all my rants about the TV deal? I imagine I'm not their most favorite fan right now!
Subbing in Ammo instead of Hammer would take care of the lux issue for DEN, but I'm not sure if LB really prefers Ammo or not. From a financial standpoint Hammer is the obvious choice. I bet we easily get our own pick back if it was Ammo over Hammer.

I love the trade idea. I just still don't see how the other teams would want it though.
what I love most about the trade is the idea that we could land anyone of the free agents next year if we wanted. Or if Harrington somehow is the answer we were looking for just resign him.
Leadership really isn't an issue as Crash and Rich stay around, and Atkins keeps it real until DJ learns how to play some damn defense. I think it makes our roster better right now... AND enables us wiggle room to make it better next year. Someone get Michael Thompson on this right away.

With Denver, I figured they'd be interested because it said in Hoopshype that they want to get rid of Akins/Hunter and would move a pick to do it. That's motivated.
On the RealGM trade boards there have been a bunch of trades where Felton goes to GSW (we get Harrington) and most of their fans like the idea. The downside is what they'd have to take back to get salaries to work; most have been thinking Nazr or Hammer. Compared to those two contracts Hunter's two year deal looks like a steal.
The luxury tax issue for DEN would be the biggest hangup though, and it's only by a couple hundred thousand.
