View Full Version : Brown's comments last night - undersized Bobcats
playoffs...PLAYOFFS?
11-04-2008, 08:44 AM
After hearing Brown talk about the Bobcats being undersized and trying to address the situation....I'm again confused on why we picked Alexis Ajinca.
I'm sure this was talked about in the boards after draft night...But now, more than ever, is apparent that we are struggling against teams that are bigger than us.
Any thoughts why we picked Alexis? Do you think they regret picking him? I still don't see the logic in this pick.
I haven't seen enough of him...But if he is going to contribute to our team, I doubt it will be this season.

We picked AA because Larry thinks he would have been a lottery pick if he came out next year

I see the logic in picking Lex. He most likely won't be great this year, but he's one of those guys with unlimited potential that can develop into an amazing athlete
Will he realize his potential? Who knows. If he does, our PF problem is pretty much answered

Given the Bobcats current PF situation, I believe that Ajinca should play more. I don't think that he will learn much sitting on the bench, especially when the 'cats are getting blown out. What would it hurt to give him some garbage time? I hate it when coaches don't play players because they don't think that they are ready.

Armour, get serious. Aside from Sean May, those guys are way too thick to be Bobcats.

There's a fine line there. If a guy is pretty much ready, I typically agree. However Ajinca has some pretty significant things to learn before he can play more than the last couple of minutes of the game. You don't want to destroy the guy's confidence because he gets destroyed in garbage time. That being said, I think Brown can play him a little bit more than he has.
Also, last night, we still could have made an attack with two minutes left. I think we got to within 12-15 at some point around that time where we could have made a couple of buckets and got it to a manageable score for the closing minute, especially if they stopped shooting lights out.
I think by January, we'll start seeing more Ajinca.

I hope I see him play more... the point of my post is that I was left confused by Brown's comments. If the need was so imperative for him to have a big man in the 4 then why draft a project that will take at least a season to develop. I guess then he is seeing more of the long term potential for the Bobcats..If this is true, I hope Brown will stick around long enough to see it develop.

I tend to believe that Ajinça playing only a bit in garbage time is a good sign. I think he should get more minutes. that he should be send to the court sooner in 4th qurters than in pure garbage time (if we are loosing by double digits).
The thing he is not playing more lead me to thinking that
1)they are working with him thinking he can improve pretty fast -> i.e. he could be better
2)he is working on his english closing the gap produced by somewhat language barier -> i.e. he could be better once he is not limited by this
And i think he was solid in his limited minute.
I understood the pick, I'm still on his bandwagon, he can be anything between Primož Gangsta Brezec and Kevin Garnett. I think he is alredy better than Brezec.
For those of you who haven't seen then yet search youtube and watch his videos from workouts. Good stuff.

I think the reason that we took AA in the draft was because there wasn't any other prospects that would be a good fit at the 4 like AA. Koufos is more of a center because he lacks quickness, and Arthur and Greene were regarded as more of a 3/4 type of player, which we don't need.

If Ajinca does work out. We might have the tallest PF in the league >.>

speaking of.... How many teams have a PF that's 3/4 inches taller than their center?

I heard Area 51, LMA and Frye are on the block

No way do the Blazers move Frye unless they get an out and out stud back.

You mean LMA? With Oden being suspect, I'd be surprised if they move either.

He already is a special physical specimen, it's just he's so raw, it'll take some time to get the skills fine-tuned to be a starter. He's played garbage minutes in each of the first three games this season, and already exhibits an ability to rebound the ball on either end of the court. He's been stuffed at the rim on a dunk attempt, and been blown by and stuffed on by some no-name from Detroit, but even an idiot like me can see a potential star in Lexy!
Also, he's got a really good touch from the 3 point line in, and is a good passer from what I've seen, with outlet passes and passing from either the post or at the top of the key. Because we need help so badly at the 4 THIS year, it's hard to justify picking him 20th in the draft, but Larry sees the stardom down the road for Lexy, and just having seen him play a handful of minutes and pre-game and halftime shootarounds, I see that "it."

I think LB is working towards next year as a goal of doing things right. Drafting Lexx and letting him learn this year and then play him maybe even start him next year or sooner. I think he has at least a 2 year plan going on, so I'm on board with that thinking.

Utah with Boozer and Okur maybe. It depedns on who is considered to be a center more.

I'm pretty sure Okur is generally the center of that duo.

A lot of people in here seem to think that since we got LB as coach that makes us an automatic playoff team. Sorry to say it don't. We need key players. We have players on our team that wouldn't be playing at all if they were drafted by other teams. LB is screening the players we have this season and training those that need to learn. Next season we all will see a big difference in every aspect of this team and very possibly a entire different look player wise. I feel that before we trade half our team away in trades he wants to know who can do what and who can play at all and who he wants to keep. Right now as we stand we are at least 2 key players away from ever making the playoffs. Having said that we could sneak in as a 8th spot this season if several players step it up and help J-Rich, GW and Mek. Felts is looking better but still makes mistakes here and there, DJ still makes rookie mistakes, Duds is getting better and I believe would be our starting 3 if GW were to go down or get traded although he still has things to learn. When LB walked in this season as coach the team was a mess, its still a mess but has a lot of potential. So I feel next season we will finally make it to the show....

davcbow is a wise man. Seconded! This really is looking like the plan, and really, because it seems like an actual plan, I'm pretty much okay with it. The playoffs aren't the goal for Coach....they'll be a pleasant surprise, but it's more about working on the culture and auditioning players and their roles, if any, for next season's big push.
