View Full Version : NY Post Matt for Williams & Hassell
This speculation from the NY Post could be real...not sure how much help (other than a place stopper) Williams will actually be but he is better than McMay (if he can keep his head from spinning off that is).

cool.....I like that.
I love Matt but if he can get us a pf then he has to go....
But i would rather trade Wallace for Bargs
this trade actually makes sense...I posted on the Crash out thread that I don't think we're getting fair value offers back for Gerald so LB said no...I'm not sure how much this trade will help but at this point I don't think it will hurt...I like Matt and I think he'll get consistent mins. with the Nets.

I think we are getting fair offers btu I think we are trying to mkae the absolute correct decision so we are looking at everything available.
Yes we may want Bargnani or Kaman but we are seeing how a guy like Area 51 can help us compared to those guys.
I ran it through trade checker and it does work...means we'd have to cut someone though...L. Johnson?
http://www.realgm.com/src_tradechecker/3/
true...which immediately makes it suspect...but it really is the only trade I've seen/heard that makes any sense from a value stand point...and the players envilved are not getting playing time with current teams...of course that makes them trade speculation fodder also...I'm not sure how valid it is other than we need a big and NJ needs a perimeter shooter...
Don't get me wrong BRNC, I would be happy with it if it did happen, I just think there is a media storm about trades at the moment and all sorts of speculation is being thrown out there and 99% of it is BS.
Slam I agree...more than 99% BS if it comes from NY...this one actually made sense for both teams (although I have not drank the S. Williams coolaid he would bring defense) and since it does make sense it will probably never happen...

I like this trade it make sense and while I'd hate to see MC13 leave, we need a PF so this trade wouldn't be all that bad...Also saw that we were interested in a Chris Kaman in that same article...thoughts about him?

Agreed that we have to question the credibility of the NY Post...after all this is the same newspaper that had to publicly apologize for publishing phonie receipts for michelle obama without verifying their source..
on another note, while the trade may make sense financially..would williams be a good fit on the team?
i remember williams when he played in BC.. good talent, but he was suspended from the team twice. how coachable would he be? i wonder if he'll run into problems with LB.
Hopefully Dude would have a lot of input before we would consider bringing in a guy like S.Williams and the brass would listen to him.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd want to know what Dudley thinks.
Dudley knows him for sure and i think at the minimum LB would talk with him about it...another note since this article "claimed" this is a backup in case we can't get value for Crash if it really just lets the other teams know that Matt can be traded and Ammo (low value at this point) is not on the table...

hooray!!!!!!
i was playing with the trade machine yesterday and i actually thought about sean williams and realized that he would make a lot of sense for us.

Area 51 is my favorite player to be named in any trade talks, even the one with the Raptors. If we can get him for Carroll and keep Crash, the Bobcats would immediately become much more athletic. I may have said this before, but I think Sean Williams compares to Josh Smith without an outside shot. Put him down low with Okafor and we would have a great shot-blocking tandem. If Ajinca develops into a scorer, we would also have a great 1-2 punch at the PF position with scoring and defense. I am praying that this trade will happen. :)

I can be in Charlotte within the hour to personally help Matt pack.
No offense to MC and Williams isn't going to make us a contender this year by any stretch of the imagination. But the fact that we have another big body available for rebounding and defense is enough for me right now. I love the idea of having Sean Williams, Okafor and Ajinca together for the forseeable future. young still with a lot of untapped potential and good coaching.
I think it wouldn't make us contenders but would have an immediate positive impact.

For a rebuilding team like Nets, it doesn't make so much sense to send two 2 year deals in exchange for a 5 year deal. Since credibility of NYP is always under question, I don't take this seriously.
Although Matt Carroll is my favorite Bobcat at the moment, I'd do this trade if I were Higgins. Williams is not what exactly we want for PF spot and Hassell nothing but a capfiller, but Carroll's contract is huge and it'd good to send his contract. Sad but true, money talks.

Hopefully this turns out to be true it's not a contender making move by any means like some have already stated but I could see Coach Brown helping out a raw but filled with upside type player like Williams tremendously get it done.

here's bonnell's wonderful insight on the matter

as usual...no insight here, it's basically a regurgitation of everything we already know and can figure out on our own.......great
Is Williams any better than Twiggy? And if he is, is his pot smoking bad attitude enough to make up the difference?
I think he brings a much better defensive presence than Twiggy does Slam...his big knocks have been offense, off-court/character issues, and questionable BB IQ...but he is a definite defensive presence....I would hope that LB and FO would have a long talk with Dude about this guy before we trade for him...

you know I love Twiggy probably more than any basketball fan should...
but looking at the two on the court... I would say that Williams looks like he belongs on the court when sometimes Twiggy makes you think about it. I like it as much for getting Matts contract off the books as for bringing Williams in.
and i haven't heard anything about Williams causing trouble in NJ. just while he was in college.
but i gotta go with Tamb here. as much as i want this trade and as much as they need a shooter. It thins out NJ's front court and gives them a big contract with a lot of years which will do nothing but hurt them in the Lebron Sweepstakes next next year. We know Jay-z wants Bron so I don't see them doing it unless they just really want a SG.

Williams isn't getting any burn (pun intended) in Jersey any way so I don't see how it thins out their front court.
They'd still have Yi, Boone, Lopez and Anderson to rack up the mins.

Maybe they would be interested in Carroll's decreasing contract. I realize that it is long, but it goes from $5 mill to $3.5 mill by the end. Maybe the ability to keep a SG and possible 6th man on the books with a contract that gets better every year would be enticing enough to get them to bite. I'm not sure, but I'd like the addition of Williams. He seems like better-fitting starter material than anyone on the roster right now. As far as attitude, I don't think that his is so bad that LB couldn't contain it or even harness it. I don't know, but has Williams ever been a problem on the court?

See, I'm not so sure. Agreed he's a better shot blocker, but that's only because he is such an athlete. He gets pushed around just like Twiggy does and is not a good post defender really.
I guess more than anything I'm playing devils advocate. Like I said, if it was my call I'd sign off on it.
Then I would look to trade Twiggy for what ever 2nd round pick I could get because we don't need both of them.
I really think that the Wizards need a shooter and Blatche is deep in Eddie Jordan's dog house.
I'd much rather trade Hammer for him than for S.Williams. Blatche and Williams are both young bone heads, but Blatche has some serious upside that we could use and is on an amazing contract!
While we are at it, can we steal Nick Young away from them too!!

count me in on the williams deal. i love matty c, but he and ammo are duplicates of one another, and one should be used to bring some talent at a different area if possible. williams has lots of upside and i'm sure he and duds would re-create some chemistry together. best of all is that gforce, swish, oak, felts and dudley are still bobcats.
let's make it happen mj!!

Really? In Jordan's doghouse? I'd take Blatche too.

I love this trade for us. we get to keep crash and our two point guard advantage and even if williams doesnt solve our front court problem as well as we would like, he doest hurt it. He at least improves it a little bit at worst and we still maintain our core. I have been and i think everyone else has, looking for a trade that wont tear us apart if it doesnt work. With this trade we dont have to give up anyone one of real high value to make our team better AKA crash, felton. If the trade is a bust we dont play carroll that much anyway. Love the trade!

At the 2 they have Stevenson/Young/Dixon...think they'd take Hammer?
Good luck stealing Young!
BTW, I'd much prefer Blatche over Williams.

Dixon is a bum.
Play Gilbert at the point, Stevenson at the 2 with Hammer backing him up. Gives them some outside shooting in their 2nd unit, which they don't have.
Young is a mid range/create his own shot and not a 3pt shooter.

Young is still a 2 tho isn't he? That'd make Hammer 3rd string.

Dixon would be 3rd. Hammer would be 2nd, essentially taking the place of Young - behind Stevenson and would give them something they don't have.

Ahh, you're working under the assumption that they trade Young to us!
So who are we giving them along with Hammer that'll make them cough up a nicely paid potential knucklehead as well as their lottery pick from last year (he was lottery right?)?
IMO it'd have to be good for them to downgrade at the 2 as well as lose Blatche no matter how deep in Jordan's doghouse he is.

Ya, I really want me some Nick Young!!
I think he slipped in the draft and ended up going mid 1st round outside of the lotto. I remember I wanted him at #8 (before the Swish trade went down) and was rocking him in my sig at RGM for the month leading up to the draft.
How about something like:
Felts, Hammer, McMay
for
Young, Blatche and Daniels?
We go with:
Daniels - DJ
Swish - Young - Brown
Crash - Ammo - III
Blatche - Dude - Lex - A.Brown
EO50 - Nazzy - Twiggy
and they have:
Gilbert - Felts - Brown
Stevenson - Hammer - Dixon
Butler - McGuire
Jamison - McMay - McGee
Haywood - Thomas - Songaila
Maybe have us throw in a protected pick of sorts???
