Do any of you guys have any idea Mek why is posting carer low stats this year .
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/emeka_okafor/index.html
Nine points , nine boards, only six shots per game.
He was posting much better numbers in his rookie season.
Any ideas as to why his production is droping so much .

He's the only person playing in the painted area. Last year, despite it being a bad idea for his health, we had Crash playing PF and that allowed Mek to do more. This year our best PF has been Dudley. He's not meant to be one. Some may disagree, but I don't think it's a matter of not wanting/caring to play well.

He has a very low BBIQ, quite simply. Has no clue how to shoot from anywhere on the floor whether it be a 10 ft jumper or a 3 bankshot; has no clue how to pass out of the post; has terrible hands for rebounding and catching interior passes; guilty of way too many TOs for a post player; plays small (for example, against the Mavs, GW gives him a nice quick pass as Mek's under the rim moving toward the block, he catches it, brings it down to his hips, brings it up with his left hand while falling away, and the ball is stuffed right back at him by Dampier....horrific mechanics that 3rd graders are taught, at least I was at that age; when you have size, freakin' use it!!)

It also doesn't help it's usually him by himself underneath, and his rookie year, which was his best, coincided with Primoz one very good year. Apparently, he'll never "get" the ins and outs of basketball, but with someone to help him out inside, his stats will doubtlessly approach that of 15/12/2 blocks a game.

I'm almost ready to bring back Primoz, the gangsta would at least a big body down low, and maybe who knows, maybe he'll have a season like his first year here..man I'm desperate

watching this video for more than 2 mins makes you realize that all his big plays in college came from easy dunks ... a quick pass to him and he finishes the play... or he grabs and rebound and dunks it... it sort of reminds me of the same type of plays that Oden was making yesterday..but i expect Oden to be better

Mek is simply not a true center, he can't post with his back facing the basket and make that kind of shot

doesn't seem like he ever practiced that shot ..and not sure if anyone ever worked on it since he got drafted

maybe he is getting more shots blocked because LB is asking him to post up like a center more instead of hanging around waiting for a PG driving in to pass him the ball or waiting for rebounds?

Beagle you bring up a lot of good points. I saw that block and told my wife high school players know better. If a consistant low post player could help that much we got to get it done. Ive noticed Dudley gets the free 12 footer ever tine down the floor . Forcing him to score . If we had a big who could hit that it might open things up for Mek. I could live with 15/12/2 all day long.
If trade talks don't work out im for starting Lex and leting him learn beside Mek . He has a better 12 foot jumper than Hollins. But i would use all four BIGS if it helped out Meks numbers. It couldn't hurt us on the boards. I can't remember us starting two bigs all year. But Hollins and Lex looked decent at the end of last game.

That video really shows me Mek isn't anywhere near as athletic as he was at UCONN. Back then, he was all over the place, in the air and jamming stuff. Now he has no hops or anything.

Look at the intensity Okafor is showing in that clip. I haven't seen that in four plus seasons of him as a Bobcat.

I was thinking the SAME thing...When can you EVER remember him yell like that after a big play in the NBA? what happened to this guy?

He probably got to the NBA and was disheartened since he realized he wasn't the shit anymore. Back at UCONN they were a powerhouse and I'm sure all throughout high school he was a winner and it came easy. But when he got to the League he had to work harder and things weren't handed to him, so he lost his intensity.

....Same could be said for Mr. McNugget.
