View Full Version : Randolph to Clips...Kaman to Charlotte :)

But why would the Clippers do this deal? It's true they can move Thomas and Mobley and probably not impact the team too much, but where does Randolph fit? With Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman well paid ($20 million total) in frontcourt, who comes off the bench? Randolph shouldn't, but neither should the other two – and none of these guys can remotely play the three.
If the Clippers make this move, there has to be another one coming – such as the Kaman to the Charlotte Bobcats for Gerald Wallace idea that has been hot and cold in recent days. They can't stop here because it rips out their depth and half of their veteran leadership, unbalancing the roster of a team with only two wins on the season.
It's also interesting to note that Randolph has played so well in the open offense of D'Antoni as a center. Assuming he's staying in Los Angeles he will move back to power forward. If Camby stays Randolph should work well, much as he did with Theo Ratliff back in his days with the Portland Trail Blazers. If Kaman stays, well, interior defense might become a problem very quickly.

At first I was wanted to keep Wallace, but if we could trade Wallace for Kaman and keep Morrison I'd be THRILLED! Morrison I think can be the real deal and IMO has played better than Wallace this season...so If Kaman could come to Charlotte I'd be very very happy :)

Man I hope this will happen, as we need frontcourt help in the worst way. I know the addition of Kamen leaves us at a disadvantage vs athletic bigs, but I still think we are a much improved team if we do end up getting him. I would hate to lose crash, but I think Kaman would make us a better team.

Randolph to Clippers, it's official (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AlMUbWuj.p6LdVkadXFo0Fe8vLYF?slug=aw-randolphclippers112108&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)... it makes sense, Knicks have cleared their salary cap for 2010, so that leaves Randolph, Camby & Kaman with the Clippers, and Kaman is most likely to leave next,... guess we should bid Gerald goodbye.
Wojnarowski isn't a rumor whore, so I'd say this is pretty much sealed, unless Clippers have other things in mind, which I doubt.

I really think that they'll have no desire for Gerald. They seem to be pretty happy with Thornton, and with Mobley leaving in the Randolph trade, they're short-handed at the 2 spot, with only Gordon on the roster. If he can be had, then I still think that Kaman could be had for Matt and an expiring like May, maybe a pick of some kind. (Plus, in my fantasy world where this makes lots of sense, the Bobcats have finally gotten rid of Sean May...)

^ but that raises a question, are Clippers trying to improve their team via (potential) Kaman trade by landing Wallace, or are they willing to settle for an expiring (May), a backup SG at best (Carroll) and some odds'n'ends. I think the former's the case in this situation, but then again I could be wrong.

If we got Kaman for Sean May and Matt Carroll... I wouldn't wear pants for the rest of the season.

Yes. And I would also walk all the way down to Charlotte w/o pants to watch them play. It's a little chilly right now, but hey it's worth it.

Well, at least 1/2 of it came true. but it isn't our half. No Kaman, no wins, no happiness today in BCP land.

I don't think Kaman was the "odd man out" anyway they'll probably keep their big man glut like the other LA team.

idk....could it be posturing? maybe charlotte is trying to get it done w/o sending wallace and l.a. wants wallace. there just seems to be too much smoke between us and l.a. for this not to happen. as much as i want kaman, i feel that you almost need an athletic guy of crash's status out there. if wallace is the guy that goes out, that would put a front court of ammo/okafor/kaman out there with eo50 playing out of position. who knows...maybe if dj keeps it up, we ship felton+something out later on for an athletic 3.

Well from what Ive read about us not even talking to them now, I'm not really expecting it anymore, all this talk and nothing comes of it, kind of upsetting to me tbh...But I can still hope we could get Kaman in Charlotte...

I figured this likely had no legs and had to make an effort not to get worked up about it. No Kaman deal works for me...lets keep Wallace.
If we got Kaman for Wallace; we'd just be deficiant at SF then. Dudley and Ammo are not the answer. If we put JRich at SF we'd be deficiant at SG......we just need a few players; but not necessarily through lateral trades. I don't really think we have the depth at any position for that.
Plus Okafor still has to prove he can play PF. I thought he did reasonably well doing that against the Hawks. It should be interesting to see if he can expand his game; but I'm wary.

Keetch, I almost agree with you but for one thing. It is always more difficult to find a talented big than a quality SF. When you look at the drafts, you have more quality 2's and 3's than any other position. For that reason, I'd swap Crash for Kaman. There is a good chance that via draft or FA, we can get a quality 3 to Charlotte. At least a lot easier than getting a quality Big.

That is the truth and maybe we should go that route we do need to do something... I agree that 2s and 3s are a dime a dozen, though I think GW is a league of his own in terms of his hustle and the energy provides, though his lack of any fluid offensive game really is glaring without JRich on the court.
Still, as much of a fan of GW's as I am, I wouldn't have a problem with an even swap for Kaman, but it's been made clear for a month or so that LAC wants nothing to do with GW so that's that. There will need to be a third team involved is it's ever going to happen....

I agree with you O'Hara. Okafor is looking pretty good at PF too; so that could be a help. I like Wallace, but Kaman's a good player as well. Too bad it was never going to happen.

The Charlotte Bobcats, who have made it clear that they really want Kaman, have to really good ones to offer up in Gerald Wallace and Jason Richardson, both of whom are in the general contract range of Kaman and have plenty good years left in them.
This could give us some hope.

There could still be hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have people actually watched a lot of Kaman play? Does he even have a refined post game or is it just an assumption that he does? If we traded Crash for him, would we just be getting another version of EO50 in return or would we be getting a legit "Al Jefferson" type post player who could get us easy baskets and we could go to in the post?
Kaman has a good post game..legit 12/12 type guy that will block some shots but he plays better with an athletic PF (see better numbers when he and E. Brand played together)...so I have some doubts as to how he and EO50 will work together...they both have to be close to the basket to be effective offensively....you could have had a similar combo by drafting Lopez and not trading Gerald or JRich so I'm somewhat taken aback at the craving LB seems to have for Kaman...IMO Kaman would be a replacement for EO50 and we'd still need an athletic 4 which neither of these players happens to be...

good post.
Kaman does have energy though! I saw on an interview on him a couple years back that he has some problem with concentration because he has a severe case of ADHD. He even said the ADHD affected his game at times.
LB demands his players pay attention.... Kaman is UNABLE to pay attention... Bad mix?

I don't know if I agree with that statement. Elton Brand was out for virtually the whole year last year, and Kaman was a monster. As others have stated, EO50 has looked good at the 4 and I would love it if the Bobcats were somehow to bring Kaman in. He's a legit 7 footer, and has a lot of energy to bring to the table.
As for the thing about Kaman's ADHD, I am pretty sure that he doesn't have it. I watched a show last year on ESPN ( I know, it's ESPN but bear with me), and Kaman said that he was mis-diagnosed with it. I can't recall what ails him, but it is not ADHD. He was getting THE RIGHT treatment for what he has before last season, and look what happened. I don't think that that will be a problem if Kaman becomes a Bobcat.

Two things:
1. EO50 is a legit 12/12 guy too - doesn't mean he has a post game (know what I mean?)
2. The best numbers of Kaman's career came last year with Brand was OUT, not playing WITH Brand.
I'm just wondering if all this hype over Kaman is misguided. I only want to bring a big in if he has a legit, smooth, offensive back to the basket type game (see Al Jefferson, LMA, Boozer etc)

The Clippers have stated more than one they have NO intrest in any players we have . Our only chance is we involved in a three way deal involving Carter.

ESPN, I think, is where I heard the ADHD thing. As I said, it was a couple of years back. I remember it saying it affected his grades and behavior and whatnot..
But it WAS a couple of years ago so maybe what you're saying is true. Either way lol I meant it as a joke;)
