In my opinion the Bobcats really need a more "professional" sounding PA announcer. This is the NBA!! There is no place in the NBA for a over the top circus "act". This is the kind of PA announcing you hear at arena football, indoor lacrosse, and indoor soccer games. The PA announcer should have enthusiasm in his voice but this "act" is way over the top. He actually has a good voice and would be a good PA announcer. I'm not sure if it's the Bobcats that require this act or if its just this guys style, but there is no place for that at an NBA game. It really makes it feel like a minor league event. Could you imagine going to an MLB, NFL, or even college basketball game and hearing this style of PA announcing?

Knowing the Bobcats, they'll replace him and the music with a human beatbox in order to save money

our announcers should try to be more like the guys from major leauge when the team sucks at least that would go with the the mostly empty arena

is there anything good about our team?

i'll tell you one thing...at least our players are not controversial or bring a bad rep to the franchise (other than the fact that we are not winning)..

but...jesus, the PA sucks, the uniforms suck, the team sucks, LB sucks...

I really don't like the PA guy. It's the NBA. Every team without a rabid fan base, basically everyone except for NY, Chicago, Lakers and the Warriors, has this showmanship thing. I have only been to the Bobcat's home games but you watch a game on tv and not only do they play the sound effects the announcers do the chant for the fans like "hey dummies, you're not saying it so i'll help you out"
I think it started with that guy in Detroit, who is obnoxious. It was cool because it was different that Championship season but man it's annoying. Simplify things for us. Easy on the sound, easy on the t-shirts (although i haven't gotten a t-shirt yet this year and i had 5 by this point last year), easy on having dancers, cheerleaders, a drum line, air rufus, regular rufus, tone, caroline, the guy in the blue and orange wig, last year they paid those fat guys to walk around and not really cheer. It's just too much. I do want entertainment value but good easy entertainment, not too much and too loud.

Back to the announcer, he tries way too hard. also, after a bad run of plays, don't throw out tshirts. It's like doing the wave at a football game when your team is on offense. The intros are weak, don't know if it's him or the way they are done this year. don't lead chants, don't make jokes. Not to sound like an old man, but could we turn it down a notch as well? it's more noticable when it's off if you have it cranked up during time outs. simple, wholesome, add to the excitement don't manufacture it.

Its like a generic thing they do, you can listen to a Bobcats game at home and listen to another small town NBA teams announcer and they same almost exactly the same things. I call it generic NBA announcing....

LOL!!! One of my favs happened just this season at the Nuggets game, where, after a timeout and the players are getting ready to take the court out of the huddle, the guy yells for the crowd to "stand up and make some noise for your Charlotte Bobcats", which some fans did to their credit, only for the players to line up for Chauncey Billups' free throws that were coming since he was fouled before the timeout. That was comic gold!!!

The guy definitely has to go....or at least the histrionics. I went to a Wiz game when it was still called the MCI Center 4 years ago and their guy wasn't as obnoxious, but they did a lot of the same inane things we do here in terms of instructing the crowd when it's time to cheer and what to chant and how to use the inflated balloons at the end zone to "distract" the other team's FT shooter and throwing T-shirts, etc.

And yes, they do a lot of this stuff at MLB games as well.....at least in DC, Baltimore, and Houston.

Ha I've stated before here how much I dislike the PA....I've let the Bobcats know my feelings about it too, many times over. Last year was particularly ridiculous; it was so annoying to go through most of a game and not even be able to talk to the person next to you for all the ear-splitting noise. Better yet; to have your ears ringing on the drive home and wake up the next day with a headache. THANK YOU BOBCATS! HOW NICE OF YOU. This year hasn't been as loud; so far. It may be my imagination, but I swear its getting louder now with each game.

I like the pregame intro's this year. The film clip is awesome...and did it REALLY take a Stern mandate to stop the pyrotechnics? I mean that was classically stupid. Do you REALLY need a darn 3 foot diameter basketball/roman candle at midcourt shooting burning gunpowder over the court before every basketball game? The darn games were played in a fog during the 1st quarter; leaving us thinking, "why on earth do they do that?!" only to see them do it over and over and over...HEELLLOOOOOOO!

Somebody needs to tell them that when the crowds are smaller that they need to turn it down; not turn it up. It's simple acoustics. It's not-so-funny to see fans looking at each other with "wtf" expressions every now and then because of the PA. Embarrassing. The NBA just doesn't get it.

"I'll always cherish" the one 3rd Quarter we had last year when the darn PA thing went down entirely. It was a wonderfully memorable NBA moment for me, right there with the '69 Knicks lol. Imagine to actually fully hear the crowd respond to a game; and even better to their individual responses during it. So funny that was. Amazing that when you can actually be heard; how often fans wish to yell out. Greatness.

I just turn to whoever is sitting next to me and stare. If they can handle you staring them down they are either not paying attention or they actually like clapping. Usually no one would actually do that if someone was looking at them, that is something that is inherently embarrassing.

Let me just start by saying, I've been viewing for a while...I've been a season ticket holder for 3 seasons and I had to join over this topic. I HATE the PA announcer. Passionately. I miss my first season the guy that said, "Who's ball is it? Bobcats' Ball!!!" "Matt Carroll for threeeeeeeeee!", etc. He was cool. But..."Ja...Ja...Ja...Ja..Ja...Ja (nearly as irritating as just saying Jar Jar Binks here) Gerald Wuuullice!!!" AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! And yes, the "Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooBcats!!!!"
Is enough to break one's sanity. He sucks. Last year when the PA system didn't work, everyone around me was happy. They were excited that he shut up and they just enjoyed the game. I mean I heard 20-30 people make these comments through the course of the game. If you can't get a great announcer, get one less annoying. I've never heard one single positive comment. Even several ticket reps I've spoke to just roll their eyes.

While I am on it...maybe if MJ and BJ came to the games they'd notice. Big promises. After the 3rd home game...nothing...not there. MJ said he'd try to make most games...right.

And yes the trades that get thrown around. My god. It's like we're going to be in discussions for complete and utter crap. Why can't we get players that are excellent that are being dumped for the 2010 sweepstakes. We won't get any of the sweepstakes players as they'll go to major markets and want to play with each other, but we could collect some good player in wake of all it and draft well.

Lastly, what will it take to get May in shape? What? What motivates him? I don't like internet hating, but my God, self-esteem, ego, or something should make him get in shape. 5 pounds a week with training and nutrition being your job...only job, not a real job...is doable. 6 weeks...30 pounds. I don't get it. People like our old stanford PG call him out saying, "you still sucking off the league.?" and it doesn't spur a fire in him?

Oh and why did I buy season tickets when they raffling them off for nearly free and I could've got the 10 best games in just one package this year...any other games would be 50% off...

Oh yes, I am a little bitter, sometimes sick when I sit through these games...being a true fan and feeling like I might vomit sometimes b/c I care and the people that should...MJ, BJ, maybe even LB...oh and some of the players like May don't.

And I hate that mouthpiece sticking out of Gerald's mouth. He looks like a dumbass and it makes him look lazy and loafish, not intimidating as a relentless slasher. He seems so much different than last season.

And can Emeka dunk? My god Baby Hooks and Layups point blank that bonk out. If we're lucky we get to see #50 go for 50% (I think that's how he got the jersey) at the line. At 6'10", ripped, lean and young...dunk it. Matt Carroll dunked it, Felton reverses it...c'mon.

OK...sorry for my ranting first post. It's been building over 3 years.

You don't like him?

PA: "Deeeeetroit"
Crowd: "basketballllllllllllllll"

I don't know...that's kind of cool the crowd is involved. Our guy just wants to make me wear a headset with 106.1 on.

its not our announcers fault the crowd refuses to participate in anything... i really dont think he is that bad this year. he stopped the "go cats go" continuously over the baseline which was a huge plus, now he only says it once.

I mean, if the announcer and the sound effects were off, the arena would be like a library

I mean, if the announcer and the sound effects were off, the arena would be like a library You know, honestly, that's true. He has toned his antics down a bit from the middle of last season to date, and without the regular beats played during the game and such, especially with games like the T'Wolves, there'd be an awkward silence like how the high school lunchroom would just suddenly go silent and after a few seconds everybody would giggle nervously to get some murmmering chatter started up again.

That said, I don't do the audience participating thing when cued by the PA or the screen or anything of that nature. I'm there cause I like basketball, and I'll cheer when I think it's warranted, stand up when it's warranted, and yell just the same. But for a coliseum or arena to have some life to it, it does need some of that artificiality and some folks to buy into it, which they mostly do. Lots of people were doing the clapping every time they did the "everybody clap your hands" track, for example; and they were at their loudest all night when they did the t-shirt launch, which is normally the case.

Overall, while most of us "hardcore" fans here don't want or have any use for the "dramatics" or histrionics, they are, much like women, a necessary evil :p.....spoken like a true bachelor, eh?

The PA announcer sounds like any oyher "talking head" at most arenas...the noise level (music etc.) is at best distracting and adds nothing to the game atmosphere...matter of fact it is down right distracting at times...the volume could be cut back because I've had my long (2.15 hr) drives home and my ears are still ringing so whomever brought that up I applaud them...

I guess they've (Management) have felt a need in the past to either distract customers from the game (by making the environment as miserable as possible) or makes us unable to hear one another so we can not analyze the game on the way home....and for us older than 50 there could be a chance we would forget what we saw the night before compelling us back to the arena over and over setting up a cycle of deafening feeling of being unsure...scary is it not...

C'mon. You guys are making excuses for him when the old when was really awesome. Again the guy that "Matt Caroll for threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" or "Who's ball is it??? Bobcats ball!" in a fun, enthusiastic voice. The gravelly, gravedigger vs. bigfoot, monster truck action, you'll buy the whole seat, but only need the edge, tip your waitress if you like this stripper voice is really, really obnoxious. The 5 minute boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobcats, the ja ja ja ja ja ja ja jaaaaaaaaruuuuulllllllld whuuuuuuulice. It makes want to run over there and punch him in the face. It is grating on my nerves. It's not normal. Its not the crowd. Its not the team. Its not the bobcats. It's a crap-ass clown of a PA.

I said it.
