View Full Version : Three team deal just happened...

I think this is the type deal our FO needs to look for so we can actually fill a need...and over the next 2-4 weeks I expect we'll see more of them...

Wizards get: PGs Mike James and Javaris Crittenton
Hornets get: PG Antonio Daniels and conditional 2nd-round pick
Grizzlies get: Conditional 1st-round pick
This trade exemplifies the type of trades the Cats should be pursuing. The Hornets, a potential title contender, added a capable backup PG while the basement dwelling Wizards added a serviceable PG and a young PG that could develop. The Grizzlies, their roster bloated with PGs, traded for a first round pick.
The Cats are obviously not a title contender this year and should focus on adding younger players and draft picks as opposed to veterans that won't be a part of building for the future.

According to the Wiz fans Daniels has become trash, and the pick they gave back (it was originally Memphis' pick) was so heavily protected they probably would never have received it. The Wiz also had to take on James' extra year of 6 million.
Memphis gets the pick they threw away on the Spanish guy who went back to Europe and gave up pretty much the only real asset they got in the Gasol trade.
NOLA traded trash (James) for more trash...but he might actually be somewhat useful.
I don't think anyone got a very good deal.
A good trade for all teams involved...and what we need to look for...straight up 1-1 team trades are getting more difficult so this is a good way to go...now if our FO could just kick it in gear...maybe
Memphis wanted the flexibility of that pick...Wizards needed scoring from guard position and a young PG to develop...and NO wanted a tough vet guard for the playoffs...I think they all got what they wanted...

The Hornets didn't give up anyone in their rotation, so there's little risk for them. The Wiz traded a guy who'd overstayed his welcome and got a young PG that could develop and the Grizz traded from an overloaded position to get a pick back.
I'd say the Grizz got the least of the trade, but that's not new for them.

It would appear...but I read another post that gave a heavy indication they have a use for that pick now...and they could not trade it in the circumstance which it existed in....so they must have more moves in mind...kinda makes you wonder...

I see NOLA & the Wiz as more moving dirt but their new guys might help a little more than the old ones did.
Memphis starts out with Gasol and their pick and ended up with just the pick (which was so protected odds were the Wiz would have ended up with the 2nd round guarantee).
Unless they're maneuvering for another deal and needed that pick then they have actually had a series of trades that was worse than what we've ever done!
Victory!

We are too young as it is. Why get younger?

Ask the Portland Trailblazers.

ampsports i thought you were in support of juwan? aside from nazr and jrich, we really have no "veterans" in our team...and as a veteran nazr doesnt add anything..
it sucks to see other teams pull trades that presumably make them better..while we continue to get turned down. with the crappy contracts we have i guess there's not much that can be done

except the blazers have nailed it with their picks..good quality young players . that hasn't really paid off for us..

I am, as a short term stop gap. I would not be in favor of acquiring him if it were a trade scenario, but the team has a roster spot, cap space that will likely go unused this season and a need at PF. I'd even include the need for a veteran front court presence (no offense to EO, but by virtue of being a draft pick of our team has never experienced success in the NBA).

I would actually disagree. We can't look at the entire drafting history of the team, because the FO has changed. Since the new regime took over, they've turned a number 8 pick into the team's best player, they got Jared Dudley who is the epitome of a contributing piece, and DJ who shows flashes of potentially being a special player. Even Alexis, as much as I disliked the pick at the time, has shown good range, and may prove to be worth the pick. Another year or two of quality drafting (combined with other moves) should have the team on the path to being competitive in the East.
Sorry for starting the thread in the wrong place Ziggy...I'll be careful in the future and shoot free throws tonight as punishment...LOL
