Just saw it dav....again why didn't we sign him (ASAP when he knew he was not going to be resigned at Denver) rather than bringing in D. Jones?

It may have had to do with the length of time he was asking for, or perhaps he was hoping that a contender might want him. There could be any number of reasons beyond the FO being inept, which seems to be what most people want to conclude these days.

I agree that he may have riding out hoping a contender would sign him...but that really bothers me even more if he saw us as a last option...does not really instill a lot of confidence...

Good. I saw where Toronto needs a big and they mentioned Howard; nice to see us beat someone out for a change (meaning we probably had him committed before he found out about the Raps).

...and I'd really rather have him here than in Toronto...and agree with the folks that thought he might help (AA and Hollins in particular) with our young bigs...I just wish we could have brought him in sooner...but now works for me also...

It could have been he wasn't sure at the time we needed him so we signed Jones at that time. I myself am not really sure....

Charlotte, we're not as bad as playing in Canada. Just ask Zo.

Was searching myself, if someone finds them, please post. I want to believe it's a 1-year, but I suspect it's two.

ESPN has it at near $800,000...but that seems to be the prior salary.

i hope we didn't give him anything substantially higher

15 yrs in the league, What is he suppose to bring to the team? I know it's not to help wit the bigs in getting Ajinca or hollins better. Jordan can hire professtionals to do that, Not fill up a roster spot. I'm going to have to see Howard in action before i start bashin him, But I can't really see the point in getting THIS big man

even tho howard is old, i'd much rather see him on the court than jones. i'm really excited for the pistons game.....hopefully its a changing of the guard in charlotte. maybe im just too optimistic, but thats what this team needs fans who wont trash them for anything they do

The capspace was not going to be used this season, so adding him has no real downside (assuming we aren't missing a Saleh that has somehow slipped through the cracks).

I think the fans (even those of this thoroughly disappointed with this trade) should support players since they do not trade themselves...as far as the trade in and of itself...I think as a paying fan that has supported this team I have a right to like/dislike a trade and (praise it/criticize it) to the Nth degree ...what are fans suppose to be unemotional and uninvolved robots?

Does a vet min deal even count against the cap?

But what good does it do? none at all... could any of us have stopped it from going down? no .... about all we can do is complain or like it for a day or so then get back on board and support the guys, we have to win all they can win....

A portion does, but because of Howard's tenure he's entitled to more (that added amount will be reimbursed to the team). Only the base level veteran minimum salary (pro-rated) counts against the cap.

I think the league chips in money (I think I've got that right) to the player (on a vet min.) but what they chip does not count...

You sir, are correct. (blame the minimum)

The video just posted to Bobcats.com with Jawan Howard is further proof (if you needed any) that he's coming to town specifically to be a mentor to these younger guys. I'm betting Larry or MJ spoke to him around signing time and laid out that plan for him. Maybe that had something to do with him coming here. No pressure, just drop some knowledge on these young fellas.

Hate it had to take this long to get done (meaning, I hate it for Dwayne Jones who's been jerked back and forth from continent to continent, when he could've been left over there if Howard would've signed earlier) but I really like the signing as he, seemingly, will fit the Smitty role from year one, and the DA role from yrs 3 and 4 as the vocal mentor.

Can't wait to see the initial installment of the "Brave New Bobcats" Saturday night against the Pistons where revenge is in high order!!

I'm sure Dwayne Jones didn't mind coming here. He gets publicity from other teams and he gets a nice signing bonus =p

Howard play'd High school basketball with my great grand daddy, Again what is he suppose to bring to this team? I have to see him play, But i'm so ready to bash this idea. I don't remember Howard being all the special a player in his 135 seasons in the league, So what info is he suppose to pass down that Nazr or LB or Jordan or any other old head they bring in couldn't?
