View Full Version : Bobcats Host Champion Boston Celtics 1/6/09

I'm not able to go, but unlike other games where we've hosted the Celtics the Bobcats are packing some heat, well, some Suns to be exact... Bell is still unlikely to play so I'll leave speculation of if Matt's going to start again or if Shannon Brown would be the better 2 for the job to be discussed below. Certainly the front court's been hot, and DJ should make easy work of Rondo and we may actually have a decent game, not to mention the slump the Celtics have had.

On another note, because of all the specials they've made available to Bobcats fans (in arena and at home with "Steal of the Game" promos) we should have a good blue and orange turnout as compared to the more recent sea of green at these games.

Also, I know there was "Give me a positive from this game" stuff going on after we got torn up by the Bucks...but I can give one already, if we get blown out, being on a back to back with Cleveland (damn you NBA schedulers, that was just rotten) LB would hopefully pull the starters earlier than he might if we were going to rest the next day, and our projects will get some time on the floor... Think DJ, Lil Sean, Ammo, Lexy, Narz (or Hollins if active). As much as I want to win I'm just willing and able to see every 48 minutes for what it is, 240 player minutes that have to be used wisely between winning and developing.

Pray that we don't pull the trigger on a trade in the next 36 hours too, that would suck I think.

In case you want to go and didn't get tix yet, here is a link to a special, $15 for $20 seats, $35 for $50 (Lowers) and $45 for $60 lower baseline. It will ask for the offer code, its "MELISSA" and you just need to make an acct to buy, no ticketmaster fees either, I think there my be a $5 order fee, but I don't remember.

Well, Boston has had some problems lately. Either they correct those mistakes and get mad and take it out on us and beat us by 30, or we take advantage of the situation and pull off an upset. I dont know why I actually feel good about the game but I do. Maybe the rain all day has caused me some delirium. But I am picking the game to be tight right up the the final 4 minutes of the 4th qtr. And then......

I'll be at the game tonight, and I really hope we win. With the downturn the Celtics have experienced lately, they will probably be itching to beat someone's ass. I hope that ass is not a feline one.

Also, JRich seemed to take the match-up personally against Boston and would have incredible offensive games against them. He's not with us anymore, but neither was he the whole of our team. Also, we have a more complete line-up now than we did before. I just wish that Raja could have made it back in time. MC guarding Allen is a bit scary.

TattoodCats4life
01-06-2009, 02:27 PM
Yeah I feel no way to have MC guard Allen... I'd rather see Wallace pick that up, and put in Ajinca on the 3 (out of place I know, but he sure couldn't guard KG). There are alot of weird lineups that would give us an edge in this situation... but something tells me Larry is a bit less likely to get creative if MJ is going to be sitting 15 seats away.

Matt Carroll starts - Bobcats lose.
Matt Carroll doesnt play - Bobcats win.

I will be sitting beside the Bobcats bench tonight, so believe me Matt Carroll and Larry Brown will both know what I think about MC's minutes. If we cant start DJ, Shannon Brown needs to.

I am going to buy you a Matt Carroll jersey and on the front I will alter it to where it will read "Mustachio loves Matty C.!" That way, you can wear it to the games and we will see you - you'll be famous!

No Raja equals a loss, but I'm fixing to drive through the muck and the mire to see the Cats since they won't be back for a couple weeks, and to help offset the braindead bandwagon Celts fans, still not as insufferable as Pistons fans, but give me a break, who the hell was a Celts fan down here two years ago?

Anyway, no expectations, just showing up to support the guys since I've missed the last couple games. Maybe they'll shock, but just not expecting anything good to come out of it.

Really, really nice. It was more a running hook off a drop step. He extended really high and shot it sweet over the out stretched Allen.

It was money.

It may just be me, but it seems I am seeing a great deal of chemistry with Diaw and DJ. DJ seems to know when to feed Diaw, and Diaw kicks the ball out to an open DJ for jumpers quite a bit. Seems to be very good chemistry there. Anyone else seeing that, or is it just my imagination?

So far, the difference is from the FT line for us tonight. Boston is 5 of 11 while we are 14 of 16. That is a great stat for us. We have always been weak at the FT line, so this is good news.

It was fun while it lasted. We just don't have enough experience to beat these Celtics. We will lose to Cleveland tomorrow as well. At least tonight the Bobcats compteted for most of the game. If they can finish out a game they may win tomorrow but I doubt it. These guys just aren't ready or mature enough to win against the best teams in the league. Still against these guys I will take a moral victory. Against weak and middle of the road teams I will not. We still lack any real depth coming off the bench.

I feel that both the NY Knicks and our team are on similar paths. Both teams are heading in the right direction. This could be our coming of age game as I feel the Knicks victory over Boston was for them. Still have time to play but the Bobcats aren't rattled. Hopefully they get a victory tonight.

Remember what happened to the team when we lost that close one to Boston last year. That sent us downwards but a win tonight may do the opposite.

wow, celtics 2-5 in last 7 games. What has happened to them?Teams have figured out how to control the tempo of the game and the Celtics bench is starting to look almost as shallow as our Bobcats bench has looked. The Celtics had better hope they can get Stephon Marbury or at least some kind of true backup pg. Eddie House is not that person. He is way too slow and does not shoot consistently.

This was a good post to quote. There were so many points in this game where we could have just folded up the tent and quit...but we didn't. Even in OT, where the Celtics' experience in finishing games in high stress easily trumps ours...we showed the poise.

What a game, Adam was knocking down shots, Crash and Emeka were doing there thing, Ray's shot was falling... But my absolute favorite part of this game was knowing that each time that they fouled DJ and sent him to the the free throw line in the 4th quarter and OT that the kid was going to be pure money. Dude is shooting somewhere around 99 bazillion percent from the foul line right now. When the Bobcats have the lead in the last minute of the game, nobody should touch the ball but him.

Tonight was fun.

Why does Felton have to be so polarizing for folks? DJ was money in OT, but was a catalyst in us getting down in the 4th quarter on the offensive and defensive end, much in the way Felton was a catalyst in us getting back in a position to get into OT. Felton certainly made his share of mistakes that helped us not close it out in the 4th (some fatigue driven as he can get sloppy then), but we lose going away without his play to help get us back in the lead. Rondo had DJ frustrated on both ends of the court and was leaving an imprint on the game. DJ stepped up big in OT, which was huge. However, to act like the game started then as some people on this thread have is disengenuous. You got people getting on Felton for standing up when he took 2 cheap shots (a time which sparked our run after they went up 7), but applauding DJ for standing up to Paul Pierce in OT when we are in control of the game.

Some people are so busy making it a DJ vs. Raymond thing that they miss that the best thing is DJ + Raymond. The reality is that the team plays better with both of them on the floor, b/c they can create angles for the offensive players including each other. They both can drive and make plays in a more fluid fashion than our other perimeter players. The team is much more difficult to guard and can get more transition opportunities with the 2 of them. Furthermore, Raymond tending to take the tougher cover tends to help preserve some of DJ's energy in these situations. Many of DJ's clean perimeter looks come off of Felton's penetration and/or passes. Some of both of their better drives come off of drive and kicks from the other which forces their defenders to run out at them at a bad angle.

I am thrilled that DJ is dead eye from the line, as I am not nervous when he shoots the fts. The team needs that. But to act like Felton has not hit clutch fts or shots for this franchise when has been the best 4th quarter foul shooter in the past is false. It's good to have a pair of options to get the ball into who can both handle the ball and shoot fts. It doesn't have to be so black and white, although I am not sure that it will change as long as Felton is a part of this franchise, however long that is.

I was at the game, it was a good crowd, more than usual but the upper was still thin, i have season passes up there and i moved to my usual one section over from mid court without a problem

Awesome game, best NBA game i have ever seen in person.

Not sure where the support for Felton comes from, i am new to town and jsut started avidly following the cats but i think he is awful. WAY too many mistakes, carlessness etc. DJ was three times the player felton was tonight when it mattered. I'd like to see DJ point, Raja and Crash at the 2-3 and then Diaw and Omeka at 4-5 and can we please get Diaw off of the damn three point line, he is useless out there and we lose inside prescence. Somehow Garnett came up empty tonight when he should have had a field day.

Nice wina nd such an awesome game to be at but it Felton has any trade value i think we should move him out. DJ is the future, for a rookie he plays like a 5 year Vet

How freakin great was that? This is why you sit throught the crap like that loss against Milwaukee, whatever else, I can't even remember garbage losses. Ray played just well enough DJ with all his free throws. Diaw and Okafor and Wallace. Chippy game. Screw the Celtics, seriously. There should have been a few ejections. Is Juwan the enforcer? Perkins, Big Baby and KG, yes I said it KG are a bunch of bitches. I've got to sleep. ESPN, screw ya, what's wrong with the Celtics? The Bobcats dominated and Bavetta and the other refs kept them in it. Jordan is a huge asset when he wants to be. Good for LB for talking to him. Hilarious moment when Howard tried to keep the guys off the court and Jordan looked at him like "do you know who i am? are you serious?" but not condecending, Juwan started laughing and said no i meant sean, seriously sean get out of MJ's ass. More organized thoughts tomorrow at lunch.

So it didn't count when DJ had back to back TOs and had Rondo taking him to the hoop to give the Celtics the lead?

They both contributed well to the win.

Felton held Allen to 7-20 3-11 from 3. He played 44 minutes. He had some bad TOs but hit some big shots and was a large part of us even getting to OT.

Both guys bring things to the table.

+1 There were a ton of huge plays by Felton tonight, especially on the defensive end. He made some glaring (like "OMG!") mistakes tonight, but he was definitely a big reason why we were in that game and why we won it.

Holy Crap!

So, I thought I was going to have a heart attack tonight at the arena. The passing in the 4th quarter was atrocious, the one FT that Felton missed towards the end of regulation made me want to cry, and the refs were calling stupid stuff all around.

BUT, we beat those f***ing whiny-ass Celtics. I swear, if Kevin Garnett added half of the energy he uses running his mouth towards actually playing the game then he would not only be ONE of the greatest of all time, he'd probably be THE greatest. Why does such a talented guy (and team, for that matter) need to run off at the mouth and start cat-fights when they're not winning? It's beyond me.

Gotta like the attitude from the Bobcats in this win, though. There were many times late in the game where I could actually feel the loss coming. I even said to the team (not that they heard me from the upper bowl), "don't just bend over for these guys," because I could really feel it coming. You could see it in the stagnation of the 4th quarter. The passes and alley-oops to... no one. The calls that seemed to opportunly go for the Celtics, usually followed by rediculous make-up calls for us that had less of an effect on the game. Thankfully, the Bobcats took the "Hell no. Keep ballin'." approach and fought their asses off for this one. I hope that attitude continues in the Cavs game.

Oh, and Adam Morrison played with a bit of a swagger tonight. He hit this off-ballance fade-away shot that had no business doing anything but clanking off the side of the rim. Good to see.

Last, I thought of the one trade that will truly make us play-off contenders. We'll send all of our expirings to Boston for Dick Bavetta. How's that sound?

Ray really doesn't deserve some of the smack hes getting. That kid might make some mistakes... but he is a warrior. He can play on my team as long as he brings that like I see him do every game. Seriously... i defy someone to find a game where Raymond Felton didn't bring everything he had, good or bad, hurt or healthy.

Matt Carroll started and we won. my theory is destroyed. he played ok tonight and wasnt the albatross he usually appears to be on the team. so props.

Gerald played excellent defense all night... might not have shown up much, but in person he was a big reason they didn't dominate down low. just great help defense tonight from everyone really.

My favorite game to date for sure. It always feels good to beat the Celtics, slumping or not. It didn't hurt that the crowd was excellent (not as many C fans as usual) and that I was sitting so damn close. Its much easier to sing when your winning.

The crowd had its moment at the ends, but it was quieter than I thought it would be in the upper deck. Maybe because of so many Celtic fans?

Definitely one of my favorite games as well. My nephew from Scotland went to his first professional game and loved it. Great experience.

Speaking of the crowd, what was with the mass exodus at the end of OT? Did most of those people come back? Celtic fans? That was a little weird. As Keetch has mentioned before, a lot of the folks attending the games now are wine and cheese fans. Hopefully, with more success, will attract the more hardcore fans who don't need a guy on a loud speaker to tell them to stand up.

As Keetch has mentioned before, a lot of the folks attending the games now are wine and cheese fans. Hopefully, with more success, will attract the more hardcore fans who don't need a guy on a loud speaker to tell them to stand up. It's been that way at least the last two seasons; it's like OT for some people is a meaningless 5 minute epilogue to the 48 minutes they just sat through. I got no clue why, but they've always done it and will continue to do so. It was a mix of fans that did, both the Good Guys and green plague.

It was a damn rowdy crowd in secs 214, 215, and 216 though. There was some impressive smack talk, with thankfully no fights breaking out, and the words continued even outside the arena after the game; I heard a chick say to another one, "Don't be a bitch just cause your sorry ass team lost," and I had to give her and the dude she was with a thumbs-up for that one...I love to be on the winning end and see disconsolate faces of the other team's fans; there really is a special joy derived from that I can't really put into words.

As to the game, can't add anything that hasn't come before really. Finally we've exorcised the Thanksgiving weekend uberheartbreaker from last year with this one.

The refs really were shit tonight...I mean some of the worst calls I've seen. The "foul" on GW when Pierce fell to the floor on his own? When they showed a replay on the screen, the expletives flew. The constant touch fouls to start the 4th? The no-calls on our end? Lots of potty mouth from Beagle tonight...

Never seen Raymond play better in the clutch than tonight. Yes, the terrible passes to nobody in the 4th, the missed FT, and the final shot of the 4th, but he was really coming through for us, making some shots, and finishing drives like I've never seen him do in 4+ seasons. Very, very happy for him.

Mek missed some chippies as per usual, but damn if he didn't have 3 monster dunks tonight, one on a follow up, and the other two set up by the brilliant GW on drives and dishes, not to mention banging underneath for 17 boards!

Really happy to see MJ down there having a ball with the team, and teaching along the way with his mini-conferences with Gerald and Raymond among others (Mustachio can fill us in from his singular vantage point ;)) Knowing Larry, he'll be up worrying about LeBron and Co. tonight, but I'd like to think the last thing that'll pass through his mind before falling off to sleep is the way his team his battled tonight and showed more mettle than the other team.

The most fulfilling Bobcats game I've been to yet....may they continue.
