View Full Version : The Official Hasheem Thabeet Thread
A huge kid who has shown a lot of improvement from last season to this season, he is a defensive specialist who blocks a lot of shots, and alters even more.
Because he is SO long, he rarely has to leave the ground to block shots which means he doesn't have to bit on head fakes or pump fakes - which also helps to keep him out of foul trouble. Has shown a great ability to improve by increasing his FT shooting from 51% his Freshman year to 70% his Sophmore year (it's down a little this year to 65%). Gets pretty much all of his points on put backs showing little to no offensive post moves. Moves up and down the court pretty good for a guy his size.
Being so tall and so long you would expect him to be an unbeatable rebounder at the college level but he is not (although 10 a game is pretty good). He doesn't have a good feel for the game and is often lost which leaves him out of position. Doesn't seem to have a lot of core strength his allows him to be pushed around a lot.
I think he'll pretty much be like Diop.

Think of our size down low in a few years if we take Thabeet... Ajinca and him would probably be one of the longest 4-5 combo in history. I like the Diop comparison, although Hasheem looks like he might be a little more athletic than Diop. If Griffin and Harden are gone this guy would be my top choice for the Bobcats.
The only way I would want us to draft Thabeet would be if we knew for a fact we could move EO50 and we traded him drafting Thabeet as his eventual (much cheaper) replacement.

Well... OKC needs a big man and they do have a ton of cap room after the season...

I don't really like him to be honest, he's a beast defensively, but I mean so was Oden, and he had better offensive skills. I wouldn't want Thabeet unless we had an otherwise high powered offense, like the Suns of old.
He just seems a little too.... derrrrr for my taste

OK50 is really starting to show why he was such a great pick for us and some people want to trade him so you can draft a guy that looks alot like him coming out of college ???

The idea would be to potentially have a replacement "if" we traded EO50 who is bigger and we might be able to sign long term for a more reasonable contract.

I know a bunch of people are gonna jump on me for this but Mek is a center. There is no way i want mek guarding PFs since position is changing and an outside game is necessary for that position. They're just too quick nowadays. maybe hes two inches too short to be a center for some people but he is a center to me.
i have no problem with thabeet if everyone can realize hes a project player. dude has no offensive game except. hey your 6-8 shorter than me. DUNK NOW. but i no he CAN develop its just that if you take a guy like that and expect him to be THE MAN right away your kidding yourself. Look at some of the guys who were legitimite inside scoring presences in college and dont score in the NBA. Thabeet doesnt even score in college well.

I 100% agree. I totally think that EO50 is a center and not a PF.
My idea would be to bring in Thabeet for his defensive presence, not for scoring. He'll be as effective on the defensive end in the NBA as he is at UConn - that wont change.
Then we'd trade EO50 for someone like, for example, Vince Carter. Your scoring punch would be made up there.
Like I said, not sure I'd do it, but that's an option. Thabeet would be down pretty low on my Bobcats board though. I think there are much better options for us.

OK50 is one of the MOST underrated centers in the league so i think a better plan IF we drafted Thabeet would be to keep both until THabeet proves he can be our center.
I think it's pretty safe to say that now we have traded for Diop,Thabeet wont be any where on our radar come draft night.

I was just going to post that Slam, kudos to you fro beating me to it. I'd have to say SG is probably what we are going to end up taking, although if we are somehow able to get Griffin we may take him.

Us getting Blake is about as likely as you winning the Powerball Lottery. If we could get Terrance Williams or Jeff Teague and a Small Forward i would be thrilled.

True. But even a blind squirrel will find an acorn once in a while. Thabeet has been a disappointment so far this season. As limited as Diop is, I'm happier with him than I would be Thabeet. Some will disagree and God bless those who do, but I want no part of Thabeet in a Bobcat's uniform.

19/14/0/1 with 6 blocks but 5 fouls in Connecticut's 60T quarterfinal loss to Syracuse
