View Full Version : Bobcats Host Memphis Grizzlies - 01/21/2008

Well it is time for the rematch. After having quite frankly the best bobcats game ever played (statistically speaking) the Grizzlies come to our stomping ground and I'd be willing to be they are thirsty for blood. Thirst they might, I am willing to bet Diop will make quick work of Gasol and we know how well the Cats can handle the Grizzlies when they are playing well.
I don't have anything witty to say, but I'm looking forward to seeing this game and seeing Diop play.

I'm calling it, Diop won't be shit. I may get a lot of heat for this, but with the trade and all, I compare the production of Diop to what Carroll could do for us. I wouldn't have dumped 2 players for Diop. Specially if one was a great shooter.
Gasol will make short work of Diop.

Diop maybe Emeka NO...Diop is probably only going to get 10 or 12 minutes a game depending on fouls. I'm ready for DJ to come back... we need something anything from the bench.

I'm waiting to see what Diop brings to the table. Steve, you could be totally right. If so, i'll be upsetting more to have lost Hollins than Carroll, though he would be missed too. I hope he gets his shooting touch back down in Dallas, but he wasn't hitting much of anything here. Perhaps that was due to the system. I dunno.
I do hope Diop gets to play tonight, though. There's no TV as far as I can tell, but hopefully someone will be able to provide other means of watching so that we can see what the guy's got.
This is definitely a come-out-hungry-for-blood type of game for us tonight. We're at home this time, so you have to at least expect the kind of effort we put up against them in Memphis.

I agree, Diop does not impress me. He's a piece of the puzzle though, where matt was a duplicate to another piece that fits better and hollins was the fun dust in the bottom of the box.

Diop gets as much time as it took Raja to perform before i lay down harsh criticisms, though i admit it doesnt look good for him.

Diop gets as much time as it took Raja to perform before i lay down harsh criticisms, though i admit it doesnt look good for him.We should not underestimate LB's influence on a player like Diop. Diop when under the right coach showed he could be pretty good. If Diop had not looked good playing for Avery Johnson then LB would not have had any reason to want him on our team. Jamie you are right about giving the Diop experiment some time. I say it will work out once Diop gets comfortable with LB and his teammates. ILBIT. ;)

Raymond puts up 19pts, 6assists, 5steals.
Boris with 8pts, 8rebs, 7 assts.
Crash had the closest to a triple-double with 13 pts, 7 rebs, and 9 assts.
Raja leads the way with points, and Emeka puts up a hell of a double-double.
Great all-around game from the starters!
Bench is still not producing as many points, but they didn't have to tonight. Ammo had 5 rebounds in 12 minutes, which is great to see from him despite only putting up 3 points.

Yah, looks like no help at all as Milwaukee has a pretty commanding lead on the Mavs.
Our defense in the 1st quarter was absolutely beautiful. We had them so disheartened it looked like another blowout.
And then...the bench. :hypo:
Very sloppy, but I loved how we tightened down and pulled it off in the end. All the starters played well...made TOs but got steals back to balance it out. Rebounding was great (granted they are last in boards) and Mek was really solid, and lately he's been finishing very strong.

I did not get to see the game, but followed along on yahoosports. But whenever something came up with Morrison, it read: Rebound Morrison and then Traveling on Morrison. Did anyone teach the kid what dribbling the ball is and how not to travel?
Oh, and I thought we got Diop to play, not to keep May company on the bench. Any word on why he played only 3 minutes?

I feel bad enough about the guy that I can't even bust on him. He looked scared shitless.
Diop...he hadn't been playing much at all has he? Lots of rust most likely...but I wouldn't expect a lot. LB needed a big grunt who wouldn't trip all over themselves...and he chose Diop.
As far as I'm concerned LB can have pretty much whatever the hell he wants!

But Spectre, Diaw might have had a shot at a Triple Double if he kept Ammo out and played Diaw. I know Diaw needs the rest, but dad gum, Ammo has to play a respectable game at least 1 out of every 5 games, doesn't he? Heck, I'm almost ready to see May in there rather than Ammo. And that's pretty pathetic.

The only way that we ever get anything out of Ammo is to play him until he regains some confidence. For some strange reason, that's actually easier than getting Sean May to lose 10 pounds. The Bobcats need to hire a sports psychologist for the kid.
we need a phsychologist for ammo
and a drill sergeant for McMay
and some advil for LB (he must take off his glasses and put his head in his hands every other time the camera pans to him)

I was just off the court watching the game, usually i am in the upper level but i got comped tonight and it is something else to watch how Diaw handles th ball for a big man, he and Bell are outstanding adn Juwan Howard has more class and energy than anyone on the bec, i was sitting right next to the bench and howard was up at every timeout, on his feet for half the 4th quater and at the beginning of the game was the last one to put the ball down before tip off, he has passiona nd really tries.
Okafor still has butterfingers and i think Diop is going to be useless after seeing him play for 8 feet away but we have a strong starting squad and DJ and Howard are goo off the bench, we need more depth beyond that and then we can think about the playoffs

Just got back from the game... Got to meet The Beagle, very nice indeed. Got the touch of the magic wand from the upgrade fairy and my party of 4 was seated 103 A4 (its the corner section behind the 4 seats MJ sits in, near the player tunnel) and 104 A5 (behind the bench). I can't begin to tell you how awesome it is to sit close enough to hear Brown yell at the Refs for the bad calls, and call plays out to the PGs on the floor etc. Alas, below eye level with the players is also a very poor vantage point to see the game, and looking almost straight up to see the score is horrible... but we'll just deal with whatever we deal with to sit 2-3 rows off the floor I guess ;)
Many of our players played good games. Yes some could have been better, but my biggest beef is that with 2 minutes left we had the game bagged just about and I think Larry should have minimally put in Diop for a few more min in place of Meka, and I think Lexy for Diaw, Lil Sean for Felton and Brown in for Bell would have been just fine too, to spread some minutes around.
On a side bar, at about 5:00 this evening I got to watch Sean May run sprints up and down the court with a guy who must be on the training staff as he was timing it and running with May. When Sean was done I had a breif moment to speak with him and I asked him how far was he from being "game ready" by Larry's standard (not wanting to flat out say "how many more pounds") and he told me that he should probably see a few minutes per game in the rotation starting some time during the upcoming road trip, (I'd venture to say some time after we play LAL). I say we give him a chance until the deadline and if he isnt giving us 5 ppg and 3 rpg we should dump him for a 2nd round pick if we can get that...
I sat a few feet from DJ but didn't get to speak with him as he was busy chatting with the coaching staff most the evening (and cheering on his team). I did speak breifly with Ray and I asked him if he's still schooling DJ and he told me "Sure am, I love my little buddy."
The End :)

I think J-rich will score 15 against our D...I think Bell will put up 15-20 and Diaw 10-12. They both want to show their old "new coach" what they are made of (and what he is missing because he didn't utilize them).
So sad the Dudley left and now doesn't get played...His ppg is down to 4, thats just sad, he's way better than that.

Yeah, meeting Tattood and TattoodCatsWife was great: very very good people!! Plus Tattood hooking me up so I could get some autos and shake hands with a good portion of our Cats was cool as well! Though it isn't as relaxed as meeting them Backcourt, it was funny to see the look of recognition in Lexy and Boris's face when they saw me. The French Connection: c'est magnifique!
Likewise I was hit in the head with the upgrade wand and was 2nd row center court behind our cherished PA announcer:rolleyes:. Looks like everybody who went got an upgrade but Keetch; it's cool that they help out us upper deckers like they do and give us $300 seats, but they need to look after guys like Keetch too; if not give a refund, put him on the floor for crying out loud!!!
It's amazing the amount of dialogue you can hear sitting center court that close. Instead of breaking down the game, since others have already done that better than I could anyway before me on this thread, I'll list a few good lines I heard:
+ Coach Iavaroni during one of the turnover fests in the 2nd qtr runs his hands through his hair and says, "Oh my god. I can't watch this slop."
+ Raja gets called for a foul on Gasol. He goes over to Gasol and asks, "Did I hit your hand going for the ball?" Gasol shakes his head no. Raja goes over to ref 19 who made the call and says, "Even he says I didn't foul him. He held the ball above his head and I smacked it out of his hands. That's easy enough."
+ After Raja missed one of his few shots, he comes back down the court guarding Mayo and tells Mayo while he's guarding him, "That's my fault. I should've had that one down there, right?" I don't know if it's because Raja had been all over his ass the entire game or inside his head the entire game or both, but Mayo just stopped trying to cut to the basket, or move around screens to get open as if he were trying to figure out if Raja was asking a rhetorical question, or really wanted an answer. A few seconds later he started to move without the ball again, but for 8 or so seconds, Mayo was completely lost...hilarious!
+ At the scorer's table Raja asked the guy, "Is it cold in here or is it just me?" as he blows into his hands. Couldn't hear what the guy said if anything, but Raja followed with, "Oh yeah. It usually is just me."
Lots of other good interchange, but this is the stuff I remember verbatim. Lesson to be learned, Raja's excellent style of play is matched only by his excellent personality.

Not that it matters, but ref 19 is James Capers. No it doesn't matter, especially when I'm starstruck by being 8 ft away from the legendary Bennet Salvatore during his waterbreaks at the scorer's table.....dude is so hairy his hairs have hairs.

Totally unreal to be in a "pro" photo... Whats even more fun is to watch the game after you go home and see that because you were so close to the bench you were on TV as much as the players, just without the sugary pay... The free food and drinks were nice tho :)

NO, the ppl yelling at Ammo were in section 103 about 3 rows behind where I moved to (wife and our family got split up a bit in the upgrade). It was crazy, Ammo got 2 horrible calls by Bennet Salvatore, i mean 2 travels in 1 minute, come on...even a rook wouldn't do that crap.

I just got my morning NBA betting email, and here is what they've got going on:
Oddsmakers from Online Sportsbook Sports Interaction (http://www.sportsinteraction.com/sportsbook/index.cfm?section=bowlLottaRosie&prid=15032&hit=1) have made the Suns –3 point spread favorites (http://www.thespread.com/nba-basketball-betting-odds) for Tuesday’s game against the Bobcats. Current NBA Public Betting Information (http://www.thespread.com/nba-basketball-public-betting-chart) shows that 67% of more than 205 bets for this game have been placed on the Suns -3.
So basically they are saying we're going to lose by 3 points. (Spread of -3 means take 3 points off the Suns score and then see who won and that's the bet you'd make, ie Cats 98 Suns 100 tonight and if you bet cat's to win you would have won). This is encouraging because we've covered the spread with ease the last few games (even the spurs which they gave the spurs -6). I don't bet, its just fun to see what the oddsmakers place our chances at, and it is getting better as they recognize the trend.
Forgive the font, if a mod could fix it that'd be great, I cant get it to give me back normal font
