View Full Version : Encouraging News on May?

There's a video up on the front page of the Bobcats homepage and it has May talking about his recovery/getting-fat-ass-in-shape. I liked what I heard from him. He even said he's lost 20-something pounds, although I don't know how much he weighed before. Is anybody else encouraged by this or am I just being a little too optimistic?

Nope. He says the same stuff all the time, he's getting boring.

For me this is a double-edged sword... He HAS lost 20-25 pounds since TRAINING CAMP...that said I recently had talked to him at a game and he said soon...but that was before he developed knee soreness. I know he gets a lot of ice/e-stim from the physical therapy department, but again, go to BCP homepage and read my recent blog and I think you'll find it hard to give him much of a chance. I wish there was an exhibition game we could start him and force him to do 40 minutes and see how he does...trial by fire... but I also feel we should start Cartier tonight and see how he fares.

Sounds to me he is doing everything the right way, also has a nutritionist so that should be helping, says he is feeling good and the knee looks well. Also sounds like he has been to BCP reading our stuff talking about some people say 7-8 lbs is easy.... I hope that since he is on the team and dont seem to be going no where else that he does get it together and help us out....

For all our sakes I agree... He does have a good Bball IQ, he just needs to get the body to the level of the mind and be a real PF ;) I'd take 10/5 from him in a heart beat right now, and I think ***IF*** he can get into good shape he'll probably be more like 16/9.

Words are probably all that'll be left to eat after Sean May gets to the food

There’s a good chance Sean May will be active tonight – and might play – against the Atlanta Hawks. Juwan Howard is out with an inflamed toe, so the Bobcats are shorthanded at power forward. This could be the night coach Larry Brown puts May in a game. He hasn’t played in 26 games – since a Dec. 11 loss in Dallas. The Bobcats were shorthanded that night, too, after making the trade with the Phoenix Suns. May said Thursday he’s had a lot of sleepless nights lately, wondering about his career as a Bobcat. He’s about six pounds short of his weight goal of 260, after weighing as much as 291 entering training camp.

Sean doesn't have a great jump shot , i hate it when he is trying to hit jump shots..he is very solid with his back around the basket with a great touch
It seems that LB has players practice the same moves over and over..at one point in the video you see may driving to the basket and LB tells him to do it again. that's real practice, you need those reps to properly execute
we do need to play him soon, even before Juwan getting injured i said that the best thing that could happen to the bobcats is for sean to get back. he may be slightly off the 260 lb target. but i think the conditioning will allow him to play 5-10 mins without feeling exhausted.
at this point, the criticisms against may are pointless, we need to be pulling for him to get back, if at least can provide us some minutes in this critical part of the season. he does have the talent and he is a smart player. i certainly critized him plenty, but now i just want him to get back out there.

if anyone wants to take the time, this write up on sean may at draft express is right on point with his strenghts/assets. we can sit here and say he is a fat ass, lazy etc, but you have to give credit to his strenghts - i disagree about his jump shot though
funny that the article almost foreshadows what would come of sean mays career with his issues of staying in shape

I don't think anyone has doubted the fact that *** he can be a good player and provide us ** minutes at power forward, and possibly even as the biggest person on the court when we decide to go real small (which LB does at times with a 3 guard lineup).
*** = IF he can stay healthy, fit, do what he's told,
** = with real, possibly even starter
Edited this way to take the "opinion" out of the post.

I'm sad that it has come to the point that we'll put May out there. I'd rather see Ajinca to be honest. May has a chance to be productive with this team. But he has spoiled any good will toward him. I'll wait to see what he does, But LB went and picked up d-leaguer's, free agents, we've traded players bascally just to fill a hole Sean May was suppose to be in...insert fat joke here

That's a discouraging news. Any false hope could into an externsion (hopefully Larry would say something to prevent that) and that would be the baddest news which can be.
I would rather hear a random news that he destroyed a chair while sitting on it or something like that - that would be encourgaing!

"As for May's weight, yes, it's given him big problems. But you know what? He doesn't look fat to me anymore. He looks like he's suffering from a confidence crisis though (much like Adam Morrison)." Scott Fowler
From his chat earlier today, if he doesn't look fat, how can he be less confident? Wouldn't that pep him up a bit if he didn't have banana tits?

Maybe they want to showcase him in order to sucker another team into taking him before the trade deadline. :g:

LOL they didn't even play him tonight
Fatass should have played but I guess LB really wants him at 260...like a freakin woman and her garden (no offense to the ladies here)
When (not if) his career fails he should go into politics, he says the same thing over and over and it sounds good if ytou dont know hes lying...am I right?

I feel the only reason May was available was because Juwan was out tonight...
Yes but he still should have played instead of AmMo...he could have made an impact

It's getting close to looking personal to me. The way we looked versus the Hawks in the 2nd half, I thought LB would throw him in there and May would make a couple of huge plays and LB looks like a genius in the process. Wishful thinking. Games like that always make me think about, "What's the worst that can happen? We lose the game?". It sucks because I think the guy can be useful if the stars line up for once.

Well Sean hasn't performed a simple task, and any big man can get a double double with minutes, so I'm surprised Sean is still here

C'mon now, you don't believe that yourself...that's not a dime a dozen stat for a big.

Nazr could get one every other night if he got Mek's minutes (hes too old for that but for the sake of example)
Diop could if he got Mek's minutes 1 of every 4-5 games
Twiggy and Ajinca are not BIG men so they dont count...
What May did, expecially against a weak team, was not impressive...just like his pro career. LB has no true reason to play him over Diop or Nazr from what May has done
While I wanted May to play, I can see why LB didn't play him

I had to look for arguments sake and Diop has 2 double doubles.....for his career
May has 9 in what some would call a career...why not put him in the game?
Diop has never had big minutes though, and excpet for one season in Dallas has come off the bench all the time, and that one year he started a little over half the year. May, while not starting much either, has played more good minutes and had more real chances at a dub-dub night in (not night out because hes hurt the est of the time). I would have put Sean in, but I can see why he wasn't, thats all I'm saying

Sure Sean has lost 22-24 pounds up to this point and the sure the last few are the hardest. But Sean shouldn't have put himself in the position to NEED to lose all of that weight. He could've eaten healthy and stopped drinking while he was recovering.
I don't have any sympathy for a man that shouldn't even be in the position to need to lose weight to begin with.
If McMay had any real interest in a career he would not have had to be told to get into shape...he has looked terrible when he has been on the court this year and I think he is totally responsible for his "DNP" role...he has been given a weight number to reach and until he reaches that number he should not play period. There is a point that a coach will loose the rest of a team over one player and that player (for this team) should not be McMay. It is on him and it should be on him...and frankly I do not think it is a personal thing but the fact he has simply not met the conditions he was given to get playing time...this is all just my opinion...
