View Full Version : Bobcats v. Wizards 2/11, last game before the break
TattoodCats4life

Okay, today we play our last game before the break...There have been lots of trade rumors and its still early enough that a trigger could get pulled before the game leaving us short handed. Even that said I'd honestly love to see Larry give the "core" an early rest, and see what the 2nd unit can do against the worst team on this side of the map..
Starters: DJ, Cartier, Vlad, May, Diop. Clearly we'd need our typical starters to play some minutes because as it stands we have 11 players capable of playing right now, and you cant really play a game with the above mentioned faux starters, lexy and lil sean. But we could keep their minutes down and see how well our bench plays, and if they bust it up, our guys will be ready to kick some butt when they come in :)
Anyway, I'm going to go get ready for gametime... Enjoy everyone.
LETS GO CATS...take us out on a mini-undefeated-streak.

I agree about not sleeping, hence the great guys are ready waiting...Lexy isnt a 4/5 guy, he's an insanely tall, insanely hard to defend (due to his size) 3/2.

Saw you posted this idea to Bonnell on his bog today. Interesting idea, but I'm not sure I like the idea of anyone but raymond trying to guard Caron. Even Gerald seems to have trouble guarding that guy. Though, maybe Cartier (really enjoy saying his name, btw) can handle it somewhat... not sure.
Anywho, I expect a win tonight in this battle of injury-ravaged SE Division rivals, but Butler and Jameson ruitinely give us trouble, and we cannot take them lightly.
Go Cats!

To me he is more a 3-4-5 he can shoot, he is quick and athletic, he can charge the rim, he can defend and block shots.....
We can win this tonight no problem but we have to play a solid game and not go to sleep just because its the wizards... Id like to see May get a few more minutes tonight, I expect Lexx to get some minutes.... Like Tat says we need to let the bench get more playing time.....

As commentators mentioned it against clippers after Lexy's made shot - i like when Alexis drills that great 20-feet jumper (well not really a jumpwer just a shot) and after made shot opponents players are just looking at each other "WTF is going on?!". Alexis is money from that spot and i would love to see him screen for this play more. It can develop into a nightmare for opposite defense - they couldn't switch because small PG can't guard Ajinça because of his height and big man can't really let PG going to the hoop.
And Lex is starting to trying treys...

Surprisingly, Brown made a comment the last time Felton was close saying he would have tried to let Felton get if he knew how close he was. So, my guess is that if we continue to play with a good lead, Felton will get it.
Great first half, everything we need is going in, go FT shhoting

44% isn't exactly low...and don't you think the 5 steals makes up for the TOs somewhat? Give it up 4 times...take it away 5?
I think he would have continued the great play if LB could have given him a couple of breaks in the 1st half, but I assume because the only other option at the 2 was Martin we needed him for defense.
Wish I could have seen this game just for the guard play.

I agree Spectre. That is why I said those shortfalls can be forgiven with the other aspects of his game. But forgiven does not mean overlooked. He's got to improve. Those weaknesses can show up at the wrong time in a close game, and they have, and it hurt us. That's all I'm saying. He's got to improve in the area of FG% and taking care of the ball.

I think both guards looked good tonight as did the rest of the team. It's amazing how in one year, management has made more logical team building moves than this franchise has in 3 years. I love Martin and Vlad.
Felton was playing 2 guard for most of the game, so looking at his fgas like a pg's isn't consistent. But 7/16 is not a low percentage.
Furthermore, he got hit on 2 or 3 of his drives with no call (I think the fact that he isn't skinnier like guys like Paul, DJ, etc. and has a stronger body works against him). This would reduce his official FGAs to 13-14. How he didn't get to the line, I am not sure.
TOs are important, but they also have to be looked at in context. Steve Nash leads pgs in TOs all the time. J-Kidd has as well in the past. A guy who tries to make more passes is going to have more TOs than another guy who always stays within the offense. He also is going to have more assists.
I think this is tough game to find much fault in our play, despite the reality that we can always get better.
It was npt bad spectre...the guard play was a little sloppy at times (but more team sloppy than just the guards)...it was not what I'd call a pretty win by any means but some of these players have not even practiced together (or at least no more than one)...the TOs that continue to bother me are Diaw (7 Tos and 7 Dimes tend to cancel) since he seems to be still turning it over a lot...I know I'm probably his biggest critic but between his TOs and not showing up every game (my complaints when he was a Hawk and with the Suns) he is getting on my nerves...I personally hope he feels some pressure (to at least show up every game) since VladRad got here...
Even though not pretty it was a solid win and I never thought we were in trouble...

Well I do agree with that ohara...but you specifically mentioned his FG% tonight, and 44% is pretty darn acceptable IMO.
Besides, Felton has always gotten sloppy when left in for long stretches without a break. To give him credit it now takes longer (back in his 2nd season it would always start to show after about 7/8 minutes), but it's a lot to ask any player to stay on the court without rest...esp. if they've logged as many minutes as Felton has in the last 15 games including those 10 where DJ was out.
It just seems to me that both PGs gave it their all and we got the win. I'm usually pretty positive and all about showing love in these situations.
But that's just me. Don't mean to throw that on anyone else.

I'd like Boris' TOs a little lower, but with his passing and the rest getting used to him (your point about not much time together) they are going to happen. It's going to be one of those things you have to live with I think.
BTW...I love winning! Sadly, from the looks of the scoreboards we didn't gain anything...all the others won too.
I hear ya' Spectre but he has been here awhile now...but again I think the continued TOs only feed my feeling that he does not show up every night (as in the five game L streak)...I want the team to win period...I want them desperately to make the playoffs since we need to keep/increase the fan base...but he is feeding everything I disliked about him before he came to our team...
Sadly (for me) he was one of the players I liked least in the league but he's on our team now so I'm trying to like him just having difficulty doing that...my problem...

Felton took a shot per 3 minutes which isn't a lot. Something that has often been overlooked when people talk about total attempts is that they don't pay attention to rate, which tells more about how much a player is shooting. Diaw and Felton are usually going to have more TOs than others on the team, b/c they take more chances in trying to get the ball. We certainly can clean things up, but to me it's simply a matter of does the good outweigh the bad when it comes to TOs and assists. Working harder to make things easier for your teammates can be a double edged sword.

It's all good man. I guess for me, I have been so starved for this franchise to get a modern day PF that I am more able to easily forgive him. I do prefer to see consistent effort every night, but I think the guy has ressurected himself here. Here's to a strong 2nd half with a HEALTHY Bobcats team that allows us to truly rotate all these parts.

This was a great game overall tonight. The upgrade fairy was very nice once again to me, hubby, and father-in-law and this time she upgraded us to court side seats where our feet were on the court. Me and father-in-law were in MJs seats and hubby was center court on the other side. It was very nice! :) Am eating this all up this season cuz I know that next season the upgrade fairies won't be around anymore

Well it was a most excellent game to end the pre-ASG period of time. A lot of things changed tonight by my account, I saw many things I've never seen before... Felton dunking? WTF huh? yeah seriously felton was totally up in the air... Clearly Vlad shows that at 6-10 the NBA 3 isnt too far to shoot...awesome game considering he's only been here for a 2 games and 1 full practice...oh and he probably wasnt in true game shape due to lack of playing time in LA. Next up, Cartier...wow, thats about it...the wizards would not let him get above the rim, but he tried like 4 times and drew a heavy share of free throw shots, and he's not terrible at them either. Next game (Pacers) I think we'll see him crack 20 as it is his last game on the current 10 day (I may be wrong, we have have him until the Orlando game). Either way he's got a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Personally, I say keep him, he's cheap, really good, and has a wonderful attitude...Diop is also getting better, having talked to him before the game he is very very confident he'll have a double double before the season is out too...so I look forward to that as well.

Tattood, Ray plays too many minutes now to use his energy on dunking but you should go to Youtube and pull up his HS highlights.

Why not?

Cuz I feel when we make the playoffs or when the economy starts coming around they won't be upgrading people as much anymore

Yeah hubby has a blue Bell jersey and the draft day hat that has all the signatures on it, I have a Blue Wallace jersey, and father-in-law wears an orange Felton jersey or whatever other jersey we own (he borrows jerseys of ours to wear)

Decided to look this up...Since the day DJ went out Felton has been averaging 41 minutes per game.
That's a lot.

Yeah it really helps Felton out that DJ is back cuz Felton really does need some rest..we can't have him getting hurt as we have enough injuries as it is right now..I really worry about his ankles.

Especially when you are constantly having him take on some of the toughest matchups on the opposition (D Wade, Caron Butler for example) for extended periods of time.

Wow, that is a lot. Figures, though, we've needed him to play almost every minute at the 1 with DJ out, and then with Raja out he's gotta play almost every spare minute he's got at the 2.
He had an incredible game last night, and you've gotta love how he's playing with DJ. Just doing whatever the team asks of him. He's always done that, but with LB now I think he understands better exactly what it is that's being asked of him.

You may find recaps of it on youtube, espn or places like that....
So, you don't mind the 16 shots?
If they are good shots, then no. He got a little wild in the 2nd half (no doubt he was tired - he's been logging a lot of mins lately) but his shots, which were mostly drives, in the 1st half were really well timed and in control.
don't you think the 5 steals makes up for the TOs somewhat? Give it up 4 times...take it away 5?
Personally I don't - especially considering the manner in which he got them. There was a pretty rough little sequence there for him in the 3rd. Like I said, no doubt he was tired, but he had just rested at the half.
Regardless, I don't think that getting 5 steals (all of which were fantastic steals mind you) makes Felts or anyone exempt from not protecting the ball themselves.
Wonder how many points they scored off turn overs Vs how many we scored off turn overs?

I didn't look it up, but I believe the Washington announcers said we were +10 in TO points, suggesting that was one of the main reasons Washington lost.

Getting steals doesn't negate TOs, but the steals gain back extra possessions just like the TOs give them up. Just because he got 5 steals doesn't mean the TOs weren't bad or too many...but IMO they "make up for the TOs somewhat" as he got the team more possessions than they'd normally have without the steals.
No one said exempt.
I totally agree he had a nasty little run at the beginning of the 3rd. That shouldn't take away from the rest of his game tho...particularly since his contributions in other areas were so big.
Which was my point.

And as somebody else already mentioned, some of the best point guards in the league get a lot of TOs.
You've got to protect the ball, but I expect a few TOs from a very active pg playing so many minutes.
