With all the new players that have joined the Bobcats, one thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is the fact that we may have the most international players in a NBA team along with the Spurs and Raptors (five each)

http://www.nba.com/players/int_players_0809.html

The foreign players we have are Diop, Diaw, Bell, Radmanovic, Ajinca. ( I didn't realize that Bell is originally from the Virgin Islands.

I had a hard time counting these since I don't have Excel in my computer to copy-paste the chart..but I don't see another team with more than five players. Interestingly, the Phoenix Suns had the most ever, with 7 only two years ago.

I wonder if this was a conscious decision by management. An international player may be more willing to play in a smaller market and demand less salary. They also bring plenty of versatility, particularly the European players (diaw/radmanovic)

Anyhow, thought this was interesting for our team. I wouldn't be surprised if we pick a foreign player again in the draft or bring another one to the team. LB seems to be enjoying coaching them and they are bringing plenty of success to our team too.

How do you guys feel about our roster being built around this? I think overall, the international players in the NBA are not necessarily the most athletic (with the exception of some, like Rudy Fernandez) and they may not be able to become leaders of the team. But they bring solid basketball fundamentals and I feel are more receptive to being coached. I like how this team is being built around athleticism, versatility, and solid defense.

If only we'd held onto Primoz, we'd be the most variegated (nationality-wise) team in the league.

I don't think management has thought of that at all, with possibly the exception of Diaw, who could both play ball and tutor Ajinca.

Though, I do agree that a lot of the European players are very impressive. I'm also curious as to whether more of them would be successful if their teammates were the kind of team players they are used to playing with? There have been a few guards who came over and didn't turn into much.

Why don't we just get someone from the DL who is international, its cheaper and they'd play far better than Primoz

Sorry, but Ammo played better than primoz in half year I saw him play here. Last year I was so happy when they moved Mek to 5 and played J. Davidson. I was VERY angry with the trade tho, because Hermann was wicked.

You do realise I was kidding about the whole 'damn, we should have kept Brezec' affair. :D

Man, I completely forgot about Fabio, his wavy locks (butchered by the ponytail), his magnificent stroke, his poise and fervor with which he graced the fans every single time he stepped onto the stage that is the basketball floor... oh Fabio...

thats gross.

but anyway, i actually think its done on purpose. I think Larry likes foreign players. They have a different way of looking at basketball than American born players do for sure and i think Larry would find their way of basketball matching more to his style. thats just pure speculation of course.

I think larry likes the international players better because maily they bring less attitude and more work ethic (sans Primoz), plus more often they are able to do more of what LB wants (I'm not sure who said it). I like this, it helps promote our image, I just wish we got a Chinese dude so we could be assured of having a link for every game :o

, that was my suspicion too, wish bonnell would write an article about it so we would know if it was a conscious effort or just coincidence
