Bob Johnson a businessman indeed... He dont give 2 didley damns about the team.
Johnson said the empire is making money, but like any entrepreneur, not every investment has paid off. He laughs when asked if his Bobcats is profitable. He said the profit will come when he sells it.

I'm just happy to see "when" he sells; not "if", but "when." Now that's something to cheer about

MJ has said, repeatedly, that he would like to be sole owner of the Cats, and I'd venture to say that as a part owner he has some wording in his paperwork giving him some sort of rights to first refusal (i.e. Johnson wants to sell to a guy outside the current group of owners, MJ can say "WAIT a damn minute, here's my cash") I foresee MJ buying up little snippets of the Cats here and there and eventually owning a majority share then telling johnson to take a walk.
Now, while MJ doesn't have the best record as an exec...he does most assuredly have the cash to keep the team alive thru anything (including having multiple max contracts and being well into the luxury tax) once we start selling out 45+ games per season, most importantly MJ has a STRONG desire to keep basketball in charlotte, which frankly is paramount in my opinion. If something does happen and charlotte loses this team, i HIGHLY doubt the NBA would help us get another team.

I hope you're right:g:
I have no problem with him saying that. He is a business man after all and he's in this to make money. I'm sure he didn't take 300 million with the intention to just piss it down the drain and he has every right to expect a return on his investment.
It's not like he is Cuban - but then again, who is? The team is just an investment to Top Bob. So long as he, or who ever is the owner and has the money, keeps signing the cheques, then I don't care.
Why does MJ not buy the team now I wonder?

No one is selling thier shares. He can want to buy the team all he wants, but untill someone wants to sell, he cant do a thing.

If he wants it that badly I'm sure Bob would sell for a good price

MJ is rich, yeah, but he's nowhere near being in the same league as Bobby J. As his franchise grows, he'll continue to buy up little snippets here and there, but it'll be awhile until he has the capital to become majority owner in something that he might not see a good return on the deal.
So he's going to take his time and buy up pieces here and there unless he gets a price he can't refuse

The franchise is worth no more than 400 mil right now as far as what Bobby J has, and thats on a GREAT day.
MJ's net worth is 408 mil. Thats pretty close. A few more months of this economic crap and if MJ is smart, he could have enough to get the team if he really wants it since he already has part of it.

do you really think its a good business move to spend your entire net worth on an investment like the Bobcats that hemmorages money like brains from JFK? too soon?

No he just needs to be majority owner and after this economic earthquake shakes out Bob J's stake could be worth little...MJ could be worth more than the whole franchise as well.
Its all relative, right now MJ could be worth more than the whole franchise, tomorrow the majority stake could be worth more than MJ. that's how volatile the market is for some of the financial shares and I beleive thats where some of these men's money is.

I'll give you a little hint man. You NEVER want to put half of your money into a single investment with a high risk. Especially in a declining economic market. The Bobcats simply aren't a successful franchise and we're not going to see him take majority ownership until his own net worth is much higher

Oh I know that, I'm not stupid Swedd, but if MJ really wants the majority ownership and he is smart with his investments, and the Bobcats keep going down the crapper finaincially (which they are), then he should be able to get the majority spot pretty soon. It would be even easier if he brought in investers that put him on top without having to buy a ton of Bob's stake, just enough to have more than Bob after the investers got ahold of him.

worst owner ever.
Robert Sarver disagrees (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Aq5_uGiNBvvjeTNSMSKBPVG8vLYF?slug=jy-sarversuns021309&prov=yhoo&type=lgns).

For sure. What did Charlotte ever do to the basketball gods for us to have to suffer through Shinn and Bob?

Well I was a little too young to remember Shinn, but from what I've heard from others, he was a great guy and had all sorts of pull in the city. He basically could've ran for Mayor if he wanted to because the city loved him.
The problem was his little sexcapades that went public and that really destroyed his image...
(I could be way off with my above statements so if I am then please ignore that, it's just what I've "heard")

I remember when Charlotte was given an NBA franchise, reading the NBA magazines at the time and how instrumental Shinn was in bringing the Hornets to Charlotte. Yes, in the end Shinn screwed the people of the Carolinas but without him North Carolina would not have three major sports franchises. Thanks to Shinn and the great fan participation once given the Hornets the Bobcats now call Charlotte NC home and two other team sports franchises were awarded to the city. I truly believe that without basketball crazy North Carolina getting the Hornets when it did there would be no major sports teams in the state.
So yes, George Shinn did rip the hearts out of North Carolininans but he also gave North Carolinians a heart to begin with. So in that way he should be given some credit. I am not saying he should be forgiven but y'all should at least acknowlege his part in making the Carolinas viabal.

Maybe we should just go back in the past and make him Georgette Shinn
