View Full Version : Bobcats vs Bulls Make or Break 3/3/09

Leaving for TWC arena in a bit, this is clearly a game that is a must win and will be a barometer for the team as to if making the playoff is an outside chance or a pipe dream. Beating lottery teams is one thing and we have struggled against playoff teams (albeit with some exceptions). These mid-pack Eastren Conference games are what it is all about. BIG game tonight
Let's go Cats!!

Dammit.

Gotta win this one. I say DJ finds his stroke in time to put up the kind of numbers on Rose to bring him back into the top rookie PGs conversation, a place he has not really been since he went out with injury.
Hope Raja plays like he's healthy.
Go 'Cats!

Dammit.
WHY
And is this why his shot has been terribly inconsistent since the ASG
we are going to need some linkage because the game isn't being broadcasted.

Shoulder could sideline Bell (http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2009/03/shoulder-could-sideline-bell.html)
Certainly hasn't helped.
If there's linkage no doubt someone will find it.

Well this is D.J.'s chance to step it up he has killer numbers as a starter. There is also extra incentive of playing against Rose last time he went for 26 and 5. Go Cats! Anyone think Drew Gooden would be a good fit here?

Justin TV's showing a couple of links, but some bad ones have been popping up (they're just trying to get you to go to their sponsors' sites) .

These guys usually redirect a link, so they're probably the best bet.
I think by a quirk of DISH that I actually have this game on TV tonight! Pretty sure I do...keeping my fingers crossed.
Going to be tough to win this if Raja doesn't play, but I think we match up pretty well...so we should take the victory either way.

I just shot a quick blog to ziggy, i had meetings all day today at work! So i had time to think about the game, just no time to write about the game. I'm psyched, I really think the guys know it's a must win and know how to win against Chicago, even though it took overtime on Dec 16th (have we been up to chicago yet?) I hate the Bulls and really have a good feeling 25 mins before tip off. I don't even think a hot start shooting or anything from Chicago will kill us tonight.

I think we pull out the W tonight. Not to worried about Luol. If raja doesnt play we will see someone step up and fill the hole.
Hopefully tonight we see
Charlotte Win
Phoenix Win
Denver Win
Bucks Win ( although if the Nets win it tightens the standings a little anyways , but a Nets Loss and a Cats win moves us to 10th)
Kings Win
LAL Win ( of course they will beat Memphis)

The bench gave our starters some quality minutes to allow our starters some rest. That should reflect well in the 3rd. If we come out strong and build the lead, it will break their spirits and we walk in the 4th.

first ever bobcats game live. i got some tix dropped in my lap late last night from a co-worker. i got to sit in sec. 105 about 10 rows up......quite happy to say the least. what a difference it is live versus on tv. everybody looks bigger and it reminds me of playing b-ball when i was younger. regardless..... great game all around and most impressive at home. we had a few days rest and dominated a team fighting for a playoff spot. lets hope with a few days more rest we can dominate the hawks on friday and extend it to five.
funny thing, i found a penny on heads and my wish was for a bobcats win tonight. i'm stupid-superstitious, so it was nice to watch the cats take this one and hold on to it. great to keep pace in the playoff race. i noticed that juwan howard has lost his pt a little lately and raja was on fire early. this team is getting more and more exciting.

Great Win! just what we should do to a team like the bulls blow them out which we have done far to little of all year.
We are playing better team ball then we did under Bernie or Sam by far. Maybe the chemistry is different because of the guys we have or maybe we just have better guys or maybe it is just LB. Nobody cares to much and everybody is happy when you win.
Here is why we are excited about Lexy. He is 7'2'', has the longest wingspan in nba history, shoots free throws well, shoots the three, can face up and put the ball on the floor, shoots the 21 footer, can play the three four or five, and now we can add is chippy enough to get in a fight cause he don't take no shit. Oh yeah and he is like 19 or 20 years old and maybe still growing and moves like he is Kevin Durrant or Danny Granger. If this kid gets an inch of confidence he is gonna go off for like 42 points and 5 rebounds and probably 6 or 7 blocks because he has a body like Deke and great skills with the ball. The only negative thing i can say about him after watching him all year is when given extended minutes he has looked tired and I wonder how he might hold up over an entire game or an NBA season because a lot of big guys get tired quickly it is one problem with being so big. That and he hasn't finished a lot of shots he will have to in order to be good but that will come and he has finished some very impressive shots including long jumpshots.

He is gonna be good... sure he is a skinny young guy with no NBA experience but give this guy a chance to learn and build up muscle he is going to be awesome...:cool:Does anybody remember a skinny young man named Kevin Garnett? How good a player did that skinny kid straight out of High School turn out to be?
I am not saying Lexy will be the next Kevin Garnett but if he is anywhere close to that we have ourselves a steal. If Lexy adds a bit of mass muscle and learns the NBA game a bit more he could be at least an all star a couple times in his career.
Lexy needs to go to the D-League to get some game experience and wind sprints, if nothing else. Those kids can run, and he'll come back faster, stronger, and have had more NBA type experience

I am officially taking credit for the lexy appearance tonight. with about 5 minutes to go... i started screaming "put in lexy!" sure it was a blowout and LB was probably gonna play him anyway. but it makes me feel good so shut up... I DID IT!!!
kind of a crap game, no energy, lots of fouls, blowout. but damn it feels good for 4 straight!.
make fun of that sky hook by lexy allyou freaking want. but if that kid works on that shot, and is able to hit it consistently... no one in the NBA can stop it with his length. He's got such a long way to go, but he sure is tantalizing. and the possession that led to the scrap with Grey was cool. kind of lost the handle and got a little flustered, but not many big men could have held possession with someone all over them like that. good hands.

HA! So it was you I heard then! I heard somebody say that, which being the resident Lexy homer, I was thrilled to hear. Good job, Mustachio. Grey's a bitch; he kept pushing on Lexy and did it again when a foul was finally called, and I was as proud as could be to see Lexy sticking up for himself....and then collecting himself to knock down both FTs. If I don't go with anybody Friday, I'll have to get down there early and pat him on the back for tonight!
Lovely game overall. Yes, there were ugly spells throughout with too many TOs and muddled offense (mostly when Vlad was out there), but there was this feeling that it was going to be ours from the get-go, and that's what happened.
Obviously, Gana played a phenomenal game on both ends and has really been coming along of late, and looks like he's near 100% acclimated to his new team now.
Raymond continues to be our Ironman logging heavy minutes to help out the ailing Raja and playing a better than solid game. I'll say it til I'm blue in the face, I'll miss this cat when/if he goes....what a fucking warrior (in the sports nomenclature, of course!)
Now, the drive for five continues Friday. Let's get Raja's shoulder straightened out and avoid a Hawks season sweep, baby!

Crash coming back quickly from BROKEN FREAKIN RIBS AND A PUNCTURED LUNG. strapping up and still playing hard.
Mek hurting his ankle what appeared to be badly... and not missing a single minute.
Raja couldnt lift his arm above his head and still performing well.
Larry said Diaw has been dealing with some knee pain.
we really do have some tough guys.

I was thinking the same thing Mustachio...hell, even Felton is dealing with a tweaked ankle.
One thing that I was very impressed with last night was how well we were working off of interior screens. Mek was getting a lot of clear path shots because of guys like Raja & Boris picking off his guy. During those stretches our offense looked really smooth.
Another was the drive/pass from Felton to Gana. The guy doesn't have great hands, but it was obvious thru that play that he was expecting the pass from Felton 100%.
DJ sure did finish well on his layups...some were arced very high up to avoid the block and still he'd hit them. I miss his offense lately.

They really are working well together. I said at RGM that I wonder if - like EO50 - Diop has been so crappy on offense because the Cavs and the Mavs never looked for him to score, so he was never ready for the ball.
Now he is here and LB has said that he wants Gana more involved in the offense, he's actually playing with his hands up ready to catch it knowing that it could come his way?
Kudos to Felts too. There have been some questionable passes by him into the post to Gana (way too low and in double coverage) but his passes to Gana on the pick and roll or with Gana trailing have been on point.
He's putting them right in Gana's sweet spot (up high in front of his face and leading into the ball) which makes it very easy for Gana to catch.
It's a small thing, but it's hard to do for a PG to adjust your delievery to suit every player on your roster. One mintue he's snapping a pass to the 6 foot DJ and the next pass he adjusts to have to pass to the 7 foot Gana.
Felts is doing a much better job of it. There are less and less of the waist high passes.
I think part of the deal with Gana not being able to score over his past career is the teams he was on. In Cleveland and Dallas, they looked for the guards to score, or Nowitzki in Dallas. Now, in Charlotte LB wants EVERYONE to be able to score, from Diop to Mek to Gerald to Lexy. I think Gana just needed to get acclimated to that, and I would honestly be surprised if he doesnt set his single game record for scoring by the end of the year.

I agree, Gana is showing he is able to score too but he still needs to improve on the foul shots...
