If there are any new people that we have yet to see in this whirlwind "Announcer of the day" tour I'll add them to the poll. But I'm interested to see who you guys prefer to fill Henry Williams' old seat.

i like steph. she knows the game and team. i don't know about you guys, but i like that she is a complete homer (even while broadcasting). i won't my home team announcers to be more like fans than national media types.

I hate the fact she's a complete homer. I believe that if our guys screw up it should be pointed out, perhaps a little nicer than if the opposing team, but being a Bobcat does not mean you don't make mistakes.

Williams was horrible about this. My fav was when playing the Magic, Dwight had 45 and he said "its ok, you know he's going to get his". Uh...he doesn't average 45, so allowing him approx twice his average is ok? Come on.

I'd like to hear Steph and Alaa together as the broadcasting team.

I'd rather get rid of Steve Martin - who I am not a fan of at all.

that is true. i like to hear my announcers be homers but like us...love the cats but not afraid to criticize. i just hate the bland national media types.

Slam,

On this you and I agree. I think Stephanie can be more objective but is being "respectful" of Martin who has been a local staple.

I actually enjoyed Alaa as he provided legitimate, unscripted insight on the fly of what was going on on the court. Too often I feel as though our broadcasts are slanted to make a point and the things that don't support that point are just glossed over.

That said, I doubt Steve is going anywhere.

He stepped down about 2 weeks ago so that he could focus full time on his church.

Isnt Ms. Ready having a baby?.... Doesnt that mean we'll just have to vote again on who replaces her?

I would much rather have her doing the play by play. As man i love seeing a woman talk about sports. She knows the team and players and knows basketball.

Muggsy was horrible, He couldnt talk clearly and keep calling players by the wrong name.

Alaa was ok, Just has hard name to pronouce

Mike, He's under contract somewhere else and i'm more then happy to leave him there......I wasnt a fan of his as Hornets broadcaster

Kat,

I like Ready as well. Knowledgeable and definitely easy on the eyes (don't kill me feminists!). I like her MORE when she's not paired with Martin, b/c I feel like she spends time humoring him when her independent thoughts, knowledge, and understanding of the gap exceeds his.

110 - couldn't agree more. I said over on RGM a couple of weeks ago that Steve is like that annoying Uncle who cracks bad joke after bad joke that aren't even close to being funny and Steph is like the distant niece who feels obligated to giggle every time.

It TOTALLY takes away from what she is really good at - which is breaking down the game.

Steph as host, Steve as cohost (put him in that little cubby by the home tunnel) and give steph a good color commentator (maybe find an ex hornet who isnt mugsy "i cant carry a conversation" bogues)

i think its painful listening to ready. she doesnt add anything of sustenance, is not funny, doesnt really have a broadcasters voice and just seems to agree with the other announcer. not to mention her laugh makes me want to mute the tv. she may know tons about basketball and thats great, but her play by play is rough and i dont enjoy watching games she commentates on, maybe with more experience shell get better, but in the few games she has done. it just isnt smooth.

i agree that martin tells bad jokes, but i have never really heard a good game breakdown from ready. Williams knew what was going on to a degree, but more importantly he could bring that across clearly in broadcasting. Cheryl miller and Hubie Brown know whats going on during their national tv broadcasts. Stephany may know whats going on too, but she doesnt know how to get it across and ends up sounding like that giggly no nothing who adds about zero but repeats the same thing over and over. awful. neeeexxxxt

You just gotta give him that... If Dwight Howard is gonna hit shots from 3-feet away, you just gotta give him that.

By the way, pre-emptive "he shot that from El Paso" in anticipation of tonight's game.

I like Steph, she has a great knowledge of the team and the game, and brings a freshness to Steve's sameness. I didn't mind Muggsy but he would get annoying after awhile. I didn't get the chance to hear Alaa so I can't comment

I don't mind Steve, actually

Being the nostalgic one, having G-Man and Martin reuinited would kick ass! Both have great voices and had nice play by play/color chemistry.

Ultimately though they could have Mike Patrick and Billy Packer, two of the most irritating, grating, terrible, etc. announcers ever do the telecasts as long as we win.

Steph's career ceiling should be sideline reporter. I'm just not impressed. I actually like Steve and hope he sticks around.

What's Paul Silas doing nowadays? Doesn't he live in the area? Not sure he's got a great voice but he was always an amiable guy and could likely break down a game better than the group selected.

I for one am a huge steve martin fan. I was really sad when they let matt devlin go - I thought he was good, but martin seems to be unafraid in his commentary. He will regularly call out the refs on bad calls, and plays that he sees as dirty (the hip check by bynum leading to wallaces injury comes to mind). I agree often he has bad jokes, but all in all, he is good at the job.

I also could not be more happy that Ready is knocked up. I recall reading that she will not be able to do road games soon because she will not be able to travel. She just does not add any level of insight during her color commentary. On the sideline I felt she could think about plays, break down trends and make good points, but when she is on the spot she rarely is insightful.

What do you like about him? I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I like Martin for pretty weak reasons. I guess it's my small town, rural, Southern conservative rearing coming out, but I've been listening to game's he's called since I was in elementary school; to me, he's The Voice of basketball in the Carolinas having worked for the Hornets since before I was even a fan, the ACC, and now the Cats. Basically, he's all I've known, especially in terms of the NBA here, and I have good memories of times in my life when he was calling certain games, so I'm a Martin fan. It's one of those things, if I thought about it, really analyzed his work, I might not like him, but like I said, he's too entwined with basketball for me, so I suppose I have the Steve Martin indoctrination to blame

For what it's worth, I think you have a great (Re: objective) perspective on him, Big Slam, since you don't have the nostalgia or local ties that make me a fan of his.

Steve Martin is a favorite of mine for nostalgic reasons as well, I grew up on the Hornets and he's been a staple of the area, and is not afraid to mix in his opinions and isn't a complete homer, yet he gets excited, I can remember him doing a big Hornets regular season game against Shaq when he was in Orlando, and his voice actually hit squealing levels when the Hive was alive, lol.

But I digress, I voted for Gminski because of his natural chemistry with Martin, and the fact he's got some good basketball knowledge and can be balanced with mixing in some jokes and remarks from time to time. Stephanie isn't a bad choice, but I like her better as the sideline reporter and halftime/postgame lead for now. She can possibly grow into the analyst's position in a year or two, but I think she needs a little more work there from hearing her this season. Off topic, she is a beautiful woman, and when I found out she was engaged two years ago my dreams of wooing her died a horrible death, lol. For those of you who haven't seen her in person before she was pregnant, all I can say is I'm sorry you didn't.

G-Man and Steve did the Duke-Maryland game today, and they worked really, really well together. Obviously they already have the experience, but Steve sounded better than usual, less scripted and less dominating. And no bad jokes.

I actually voted for Alaa because Mugsy (as much as I loved him as a player) is absolutely horrific and sounds like a product of the Magic Johnson school of broadcasting. Mike Gminski is without a doubt the most boring commentator in the history of the sport, I absolutey hate it when Raycom sports tevises those Duke/NC games and we're forced to hear this monotonus commentary for two hours...ugh! I don't mind Stephanie Ready at all, I just thinks she's a better sideline reporter.

Sorry, just got back to this. I've been slacking.

I like him for what appears to be the reasons you don't. His corny jokes work for me. He also seems to just call it as he sees it and doesn't take himself too seriously. The big thing for me is that he walks the right line between rooting for the home team and being a homer.

Now, it could be that I just really hated Henry and therefore liked Steve because when he was speaking Henry wouldn't. Time will tell.

Saw G-Man at the Knicks game, and thanks to the "Keetch Seats" was able to talk to him briefly at halftime as he was coming back from the tunnel. He gave me the noncommital "We'll see what happens" in terms of him calling games regularly, but said he was having a blast calling the game. Didn't tape the game, but I imagine he did a good job?

Personally I didn't like him at all. Him and Martin pretty much mirror each other. They are not at all dynamic and don't bring anything "extra" to the broadcast IMO.

I missed out on Del, but so far I'm leaning towards aalllaaallaa (or what ever his name is - I just know there are lot's of "a's" and "l's" in it)
