I was just curious on what we will be looking @ in the 2nd round...

I know there was the Weaver trade last year. Did that net us a 2009 2nd round pick?

I know that the Lakers will likely claim the 2nd rounder we owe them this year.

I saw on one mock board that the Spurs owe us a pick. Is this from the E. Williams deal a couple of years ago?

Just curious if anyone knows whats up. Thx

Bobcats
Credits: • Charlotte will receive the least favorable of New Orleans' 2009 second-round pick (Eric Williams - Melvin Ely swap) or San Antonio's 2009 second-round pick.
• Charlotte, via Oklahoma City, will receive New Jersey's second-round pick (Mikki Moore trade via Kyle Weaver trade)
Debits: • Los Angeles Lakers will receive Charlotte's 2009 second round pick, as part of Kareem Rush trade (2004).
• Denver trades their 2008 first rounder for Charlotte's 2009 1st rounder (lottery protected in 2009, top 12 protected in 2010, top 10 protected in 2011, top 8 protected in 2012, top 3 protected in 2013, unprotected 2014).
• The Suns will receive the Bobcat's 2010 second-round pick (Boris Diaw / Jason Richardson trade).

I would have kept Weaver last year. I'm still p/o'd that we traded him, even though we did have a glut of G's at the time. I just can't believe Larry would want to get rid of a defender like him... I call bad move from our FO and it didn't involve Brown.

I guess I'm still confused... how many picks do we have in the second round?

We have two that are not ours, that was traded to LA in 2004 involving some deal with Kareem Rush.

Idk about the Lakers.

They are trying to *dump salaries (see the Radman trade), have a stingy owner, and really dont need anything in the 2nd round. They might take it just to have it, but i wouldnt be suprised if they let us keep it.

I don't think the Lakers have a choice.

Combine the two for a late first and get Hansbrough. We need a gritty undersized PF who can battle in the paint. I'd use our 1st on Raja Bell's heir apparant.

You know, I'm not a big fan of Hanbrough's at all. However, I wouldn't mind us trading two seconds for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if late first round picks couldn't be had for pretty cheap this year.

Neither am I really, but as you said a late first is nothing...like 700k guaranteed (and as you also said, teams will prbably be giving those late 1sts away). I've really come to appreciate those Maxiell type guys who'll get dirty and have a nose for the goal. Purely a bench guy, but IMO we need one.

I'm also not tied to the him specifically, so if someone similar (preferably with more athleticism) was available for the same deal I'd still be down.

Wasn't he leading college with "and ones" at one time? We definitely need someone like that (looking at you Mek...).

Yea, but only because ACC refs love him

not that I mind

Hansbrough will not be a star.
Or a starter.
But for a 25-30ish pick. Thats solid bench production.
And hes becoming a better shooter to make up for his lack of size.
When you watch a guy like that you have to realize he will do whatever he has to, to adapt.

I like trading 2 seconds for a 26th or so to grab another Hansboro. I doubt we keep our 1st rounder this year because we're so close to the playoffs. I think we might make a move to generate a pick to pull a 2 guard who can build into a starter or heavy rotation player.

According to Bonnell our pick is protected thru 20...so I dare say we'll get that pick this year.

The 2nd round pick is protected to 20? or do you mean the first pick, because I was sure our 1st rounder is only top 14 protected.

Either way we should at a minimum have 2 seconds, or a 1st and 2 seconds (hope not in a way). I also have a feeling we're going to trade a player for a player and a pick or a handful of picks so we can make it a more larry brown team

The 2nd round picks don't start til 31.

A league document indicates the pick the Bobcats owe the Denver Nuggets (in the trade that brought Alexis Ajinca to Charlotte) is lottery protected. Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins says it's a better deal; that this season the pick is protected through 20th.

You know, I was thinking about this the other day.

Isn't it strange that a LEAGUE document says the pick is only lottery protected but the GM says it's top 20 protected?

Someone has to be wrong. Either an official league document is wrong, or what has come out of our GM's mouth is wrong.

What do we beleive? What is noted in a document, or what is said to a reporter??

Anyone else worried about the pick?

The NBA doesn't release salaries, but somehow sites "get" them...some team spokesman insinuates something or someone just assumes (ex., Hoopshype has always shown Crash's salary as traditional yet Sham shows it flat). It seems that traded picks are the same way. I'd guess that the document where the protection is legally spelled out isn't available to the public.

I'm not worried so much about the pick. I "think" it'll be worse (meaning nearer to 20 vs. lottery) next year so right now I'd just as soon deal it then...but either way we have to give it up...and so long as the lollipop is running things I can't discount that things could always get worse from our perspective.

If its 20th, I'd LOVE to have to give it up due to the implied meaning. I still honestly see is managing a way to pick in the 12-15 range in hopes of Curry, right or wrong that's who I see us wanting. I also see us trying to grab something late 1st or VERY early second round and possibly getting the super tarheel ;) Its still quite early to speculate what we might do, but I like larry picking no matter what.

From what I gathered, the 09 first rounder is top 20 protected and good would be good in IMHO. We make the playoffs, get the experience and monkey off our back and then get the pick. With the amount of SGs in the draft, we can find Bell's heir apparent. Then trade up our 2 second rounders for a late first rounder, draft a pf like Tyler, maybe. Then rid our selves of Nazr or May. I prefer keeping May at a discount. (An unpopular move for most fans) I like to trade Nazr for Jamal Crawford and a future pick or something.

ideal offseason
resign Ray
resign Sean for a 1mil/yr max 2 yrs
draft a Stephen Curry, Damar DeRozan etc
trade 2nd rd picks for late 1st, draft Tyler
trade for Jamal Crawford

09/10 roster

Okafor/Diaw/Wallace/Crawford/Felton
Diop/May/Radmanovic/Bell/Augustin
Ajinca/Hansborough/Martin/Curry

last spot
a re-signed J. Howard, free agent pick, undrafted rookie, D. Jefferson or Sean Singletary

That's the Blueprint

go Bobcats

Sorry, I stopped reading after that lol. He may come back and prove to be a decent player, but I'd rather see Ajinca play over him in the future.

As unpopular as it may be, I think we might actually give may the QO then if he is good keep him, otherwise trade him as an expiring to anyone looking to dump salary for the summer following next season when everyone thinks lebron is going to move ...

I like that blueprint of the team...I just wish that Larry would try Ajinca as a SF. He is athletetic and doesnt have the bulk for PF/C, and he has a good jumpshot... He would create mismatches like never seen

and in a bind, SG. Only one who ever came close was Durant...
