"Look for the down economy to change the summer habits of more than a few teams. Word has it the Hawks and Bobcats will not send teams to Orlando, Utah or Las Vegas. Rather than fly a flock of players across the country for a week at a cost of roughly 150G, some teams figure to stage mini-camps in their home cities, assign a player or two to someone else's squad, or flat out combine forces. I had heard the 76ers would be cutting back as well, but a source says they plan to participate (in partnership with the Nets, perhaps) in Orlando's tournament." (NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/seven/04122009/sports/moresports/saunders_not_coaching_magician_wizards_n_164009.ht m))
I don't want to overreact, but this seems to be a terrible move as far as developing young players.

Maybe. Maybe not. I think those camps are pretty ridiculous in a lot of ways. Here are my issues:
1. You're only learning so much. If you're a great young guard (Augustin, for example), you're playing mostly with guys who aren't especially great and are just trying to impress scouts. There's not much of a team atmosphere, from what I've seen.
2. Many people do great at the camp and then are never heard from again. I don't know what this means, but I do know that there is no correlation between great play in camp and quality play in the NBA.
3. Everybody is playing less time against other marginal talent. Can you really evaluate talent under those conditions?
Don't get me wrong; I see the benefit of watching guys play in game conditions against fresh opponents. However, I don't see much going on with these camps that translates to success in the NBA, other than a better idea of who to give the 14th and 15th spots to, who you will eventually wave.

a new season of American Fatiators, starring Sean May
Really if anyone doesn't need to send a team to these, it's us. We have LB! He could go watch them himself, and scout for talent, which I think we can all agree he's pretty dang good at, and as far as improving the talent we already have, isn't that what training camp is for?

Baseball = :chairshot::crazy:Speak for yourself but I think baseball is a great sport. I prefer to watch it and hockey come playoff time but I will catch the occasional regular season games when nothing else is on. Much better than watching golf or fishing. Those two recreational activities are better when you are a part of them as opposed to watching them.
Baseball is fun to watch, but only if you know whats going on. And following the stats and constant roster moves takes time and isn't for everyone. But I enjoy it, and will always root for my Red Sox...and to all you Yankees fans - take those 26 rings and shove 'em up your ass...with all due respect, of course

I fully and completely understand baseball but that doesn't mean I like it?
It's boring to me unless it's the latter stages of the playiffs. The season is too long. The games are too long. And there's too much standing around. That's just my opinion though.

There is too much standing around, and I see your point, but thats why you change channels, and if you ask about going to games, only go to a game you'd enjoy
But most people who don't like baseball couldnt tell me the difference in a Fly out and a blown save

I know all the rules and I enjoy playing baseball but I can never watch it.
Same with golf.
