WTF?

Bobcats coach Larry Brown says he'd like both back. Yes, May, too, despite his weight problems and his limited contributions this season.

Michael (Jordan, the team's managing partner) likes him, I like him. I still don't think he's really ready to play, and he might disagree with that. I really think this is a big summer for him, and summer started yesterday

Kinda wierd...but if we get him cheaper then 3.6 I'm all for it

I want Felton back, but I really don't want May back...not unless he can get healthy and prove to be able to play more than 6 minutes...

Did he say "I want May back" or did he indicate he wants to buy a Maybach?

I hope we get both back. We have gone through it with May for this long might as well see if there is a light at the end of the tunnel. He seems to be mostly healthy now and doing some work if he has lost 50 pounds. Even the qualifying offer is probably worth the risk.

Felton had a really good year I thought. Last year you could almost write him down to go 3/10 in the box score. There was a sprinkling of that this year but he had a lot of good nights to and more than a few great ones. He is one of the better guards on D as well.

The situation is different with Felton, who finally established himself as the Bobcats' starting point guard. The Bobcats would have to make a qualifying offer of about $5.5 million this summer to restrict Felton's free-agency. That seems a virtual given.

“He had a phenomenal year. He's done everything we asked,” Brown said of Felton pre-game. “He wants to be around and I'm confident things will work out.”Great to see that Felton has earned LB's trust, and it's nice justification for him after the lame coaches before LB kept questioning his PG abilities. Now that he has a good backup in DJ let's re-sign him and be set for a while.

In regards to May, I'm glad that I went back and re-read the article as I first took it to mean management "hadn't ruled out" offering the QO. Instead, May has heard "nothing".

Hopefully something like 2 yr/2 million deal with the 2nd being a player option...let him show he deserves a real contract.

The QO for May is the safest bet... It leaves him as an expiring contract right when some clubs would take ANY expiring to dump salary for the summer.

But that, combined with a new Felton contract (or even just his QO) plus the contract for our 1st round draft pick combined with the other salaries we are on the hook for would push us to within 2-3 million of the luxury tax.

I do not want May back. After seeing that he has appeared to have gained back his '10 pounds' and was huffing and puffing after a couple minutes on the floor, showing me how out of shape he was, i no longer want him to be on the team.

I was a believer that May could play for us too, after he lost his 'goal weight' i was ecstatic. But it appears he has no self displine and cannot keep the weight off. Millions of average Americans have this problem, but i dont want a average American playing for the Bobcats, i want a actual NBA player.

I dont know and I could be wrong but I think May has something to show us this next year or LB wouldnt have said the things he has said about him.. I think May's knee wasnt 100% and LB knew it so they just had him ride the bench and lose weight and continue his workout regimen. So what he does this off season and summer could mean weather he ever makes it as a player in the NBA or not....

This is going to be a huge summer for May. He's coming off of injury and he's likely going to be healthy to contribute next year! I think he can do it!

Sounds familiar, kinda like I've heard those exact comments for the past 2 years.........................:rolleyes:

Can we just get rid of him and move on with our lives?

That's very true. May's expiring contract could net the Bobcats something of big value.

Or we could pick it up now and go ahead and use him in a Jamal Crawford/Chris Bosh trade, since they are both on the outs with their teams...I don't know, I'm split on him, he says all the right things but he just deosnt seem to show it on the court, and his DNA has injury prone wirtten all over it.

I see the future of May, i can see that once he get's that big contract or even an extension he will play like crap was comin out his ass and that's saying something.

I hope May comes back healthy and busts his ass over the summer. We could use his post play. I agree, LB let him play minutes here and there and even that out of game shape he played efficient minutes. I think LB and Jordan both saw that and opted to let him play a few minutes to diagnose how he feels. We talked earlier in the season on how May and Jordan looked all buddy buddy, guess we were right.

I think as another poster stated, they pick him up for 1-2 let him get in the best shape of his life over the summer, see if he can play at that awesome level he played at in late 06. If not they gave him his last chance. Then we trade his expiring contract for another player being unloaded.

Felts was really no shocker, If we can get a go to scorer to close out games and keep the last shot out of felts hands,, we will be close to golden next year.

Players under the QO have to approve of the trade, so you have to assume that we can't trade either May or Felton if that's the route they go.

Not positive, but I also think guys under a 1 year deal (say we didn't offer May the QO but instead tendered him a 1 yr/2 million deal) who we drafted also have to approve the trade. Under both scenarios they would lose their Bird status. Look at Hollins last season as an example...he had to approve the Dallas deal...which he did.

That's why possibly pairing May or Felton with Nazr in a trade most likely isn't an option.

I don't get what all the fuss is over about Brown saying "he wanted May back". It's not like he was going to come out and say "He's a mediocre player that can't stay healthy. Hell no I don't want him back."

He'd have killed any 'value' May had, if he still has any.

Exactly! It is the smart thing to say from a business point of view. And whether he really wants Ray back or not, it is the same thing. Very smart to say how you like someone and want them back. You get them signed. That way, if someone wants to offer you something for them, they know you wont accept if it is garbage. Although I am still not keen on the May signing.

In Felton's case that isn't really true if we re-sign him as he will be BYC...again, very difficult to trade.

The same thing went down with Mek this past season, so everyone should realize the liimitations there are to letting one of your draftees get to RFA status.

I can't imagine anyone being happy with May getting his full QO. Realistically he should be giving us a "free" season.

I know what you're saying Spectre. As far a Ray, I would not count on him being signed and then traded this year. If we resign him, he'll likely be here all year for just that reason. I was more speaking about the future, after next season. I think DJ would benefit from another year of not having the pressure of being the starting PG. Let him learn more, and prove he has the right stuff.

would bringing may back for one year help us get rid of nazrs contract?

I see no upside to giving McMay a QO...at best we have to take a garbage contract that some other team does not want...at worst we have handcuffed ourselves more regarding our cap...I'd rather he walked (if he can) but if LB wants to see him in camp let it be with a non-guaranteed and he has to make the team...

Based on something that I heard, I would be surprised to see Sean "Burgertown" May in a Bobcats uniform next year.

I agree with one of the earlier posters, LB was just saying what he had to say at the time and didn't want to decrease May's already minuscule value.

One of the guys on Bonnell's blog had this to say, I thought it was worth posting

MJ's quote "I'm not sure what to do about Sean May" really means 'the guy has had eight months to get down to 260 pounds and still he can't seem to get it done'...LB is putting the decision on MJ because it's his money...if he wants to have a token Tar Heel on the bench...you figure out what it's worth since your writing the checks...LB is saying 'he's not going to get any real PT until he get's down to 260'...period
