View Full Version : Hollinger ranks us as third worst Franchise...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=FranchiseRankings-Lakers
I do consider the source but I guess it is a reflection about how we're viewed...
I also realize our numbers are skewed lower since we're a newer franchise and wins/regular season and post season...but being down with LAC and Memphis...like ice cold water in the face while in the arctic...
How is Bernie our best coach??? Did Hollinger watch his games?
teej...that is part of the problem with the skew of his rating system...Bernie has the most Ws so ergo he is our best coach until another coach has more Ws...

So even if SVG wins the finals this year he isn't the best Magic coach? That's bull.

28 out of 30 sounds about right to me for the league's newest franchise. At least we're ahead of the Clippers and Grizzlies, the two teams I think most would consider dysfunctional at best. But what's the future? Until this team actually achieves something other than hiring bad coaches (fixed THAT one yay!) and making bad draft choices; they shouldn't be considered any higher. That plus the current unsettled ownership, puts us behind.
The brand "Bobcats" (ugh what a brand) hasn't really done anything to deserve great respect yet. The challenge is still there.
Win.
Show intelligence with personnel decisions, including draft choices.
MJ and Higgins must prove they are current, visible, active and intelligent in the NBA Management game; and not going along for the ride. They talk big, but the action seems minimal. The trades they made last year I credit to LB, not upper management. MJ did bring in LB though; so that's a definite positive.
But on another note, what does it matter? The NBA event became circus-like some years ago. The sport value of pro basketball is diminished by every event they put on.

How about we get a current picture?!?!? >:(
That pic looks like it was from Morrison's rookie year, Wallace still has a fade.
Intangibles: -10. Not a bad bunch of guys but run on the cheap and looking the part.
Thank You Bob Johnson.....>:(
Are you telling me this team get's no more respect from ESPN then typing just over a paragraph. Nothing about LB or the new players. Nothing about Jordan possibly owning the team. Nothing about making a playoff run last year or LB coaching the most wins in franchise history >:(

I like to think of it as how many cities in the US and Canada can say they have a NBA team?

I like to think who gives a shit?
I don't care what ESPN thinks. I know they're going to hate us on but who cares? We haven't been given any respect since we came into the league and we haven't deserved it either.
Either way, it doesn't matter. I'd rather play the underdog role and be taken for advantage, then punch the cocky people in the face when we beat them.

lol..thing of it this way....they hate on the cats because in their estimation, the cats shouldn't even exist!!!
"The Hornets have been around for 21 years, and for most of them the team has been pretty decent. Unfortunately the lack of a single conference finals appearance and the team's shameful exit from Charlotte combine to push the Hornets down to 24th in the franchise rankings. "

you guys cant seriously be upset by this? of course we are the 28th worst franchise in the NBA. We are just by default better than the clippers and the grizzlies since theyre jokes, but theyve still had all stars and many seasons. this is based on teams previous successes in the league, and lets face it, weve had none. its not about how good we are now, its about how great of a franchise the team has been during their time in the nba. of course we suck, weve done nothing. stop living in a dream world

This team is only 5 yrs old...how much success can you really expect? If your going to talk about a franschise this young ESPN that atleast talk about where this team is going not what it hasn't done yet. How many other year 5 teams have had more success with NO big name marketable players. The Miami Heat drafted Wade and traded for Shaq.....only reason they won a title...Then when Shaq left and Wabe was hurt....Worse team in the league

They sucked worse than we did the first few years didn't they? I think Bigcat Bobcat was the one who ran the comparisons and we were among the top expansion franchise since the 80's.

The only good thing about ESPN is the scores they show on the BottomLine...everything else is just fluff...including their telecasts. If it's not happening in Boston, NY, Chicago or LA, they have an outright panic attack. I wish somebody new would come along and challenge their sorry asses. Seriously, they have such awfull sports telecasts. Their (and ABCs) NBA games are awful compared to TNT, the old NBC days, and the even older CBS days. Their baseball coverage is also abysmal, but then again, so is FOX, and everybody knows how much of a downturn MNF has had since it went to ESPN, so that now Sunday night football on NBC is the new MNF. I will say I've enjoyed the CWS coverage however, but that's about it. Soapbox over....

I can understand the under dog argument, But if this team isn't reported about or respected people lose interest. No interest basically means no money. No money means no team....
We can all talk about not caring if ESPN respects this team, But how can you get fans when all you get is negative press? If the team does better, gets better press the fans that jump on then aren't real fans are they? If this team doesn't build a real fan base now then how will we keep a team like Chicago & Dallas plus others have in the future when the bad times return as they always do. Teams in the NBA are up and down, This team has started off (bad?) kinda, But is starting to build into something. As young as this team is the chances of Charlotte losing another NBA team are high these days. We need positive press

You're misunderstanding something.
We're clearly not as bad as anyone believes us to be. It doesn't matter if they give us negative press--all we're going to do is throw it in their faces when we make it to the playoffs next year as some out of nowhere underdog Cinderella story.
By the end of next year, everyone will be claiming they knew we were gonna be good all along, when in reality nobody ever gives us a chance.

Never fails...
