I was recently told by my step father that he would get me a printer for my high school graduation, as my current one is broken and I'll need one next year in college. I've checked places like Best Buy but haven't really been able to tell what the differences are.

Can I get some recommendations for a good 3-in-1 printer at a pretty good price? (about $400 or less)

Preferably laser jet printer (as I've been told that they last longer than ink jet)
3-in-1 (printer, copier, scanner)
Color and Black/White
Highest quality possible as I want this thing to last
WIRELESS WOULD ALSO BE GREAT

I don't know about laserjet's lasting longer, I think it depends ont he maufacturer. If you don't have to have a laserjet, I'd recommend HP (they don't seem to have 3-in-1 laserjets), I've had 1 for a long time and never had any difficulties.

Heres one my bro has

And here's one for just under 400

Well maybe laserjets aren't better? Haha that's just what I heard, but I could definitely be wrong.

Getting a laser 3 in 1 is going to be a) cost prohibitive due to expensive toner prices (depending on how much you print, you may not have to buy new cartridges at all during college, but the toner can get old and cake up) and b) if it's color, it's going to be big, like very big, like sean may after a waffle house bender big.

If you're going away to school, get something smaller that you can move easily, because you'll likely move it at least 10 times in the next four years. I understand you want something to last, but you'd be better off spending less in this instance.

For my money, I'd go with a simple 3-in-1 HP photo inkjet printer with the memory card slots. This way you can print pictures and papers, have a printer that fits nicely on the desk, and if it breaks in one of those 10 moves, you've gotten your money's worth. I just don't see spending $500 plus for a color laser printer that has decent quality. Colleges have laser printers, use them instead of investing in one now.

Note: I am not a friend of your father trying to save him money.

I appreciate the help guys.

I'm going to be staying in a suite with 3 of my buddies and I said I'd just bring the printer I'm buying and they can donate money to the cause for ink/toner.

The suite is apartment style with 2 rooms with 2 beds and a living room so it needs to be wireless so everybody can have access to it from their own computer.

A couple of the ones I've seen and liked:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9168811&type=product&id=1218041995464

This one is only $100 but has been getting really good reviews (4.8/5). It's wireless and can print pretty fast. But it has to have something wrong with it if it's that cheap?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9058949&type=product&id=1218014205275

This one is $150 so it's a little more expensive and it's a bit bigger, but it basically does everything a little better. Faster print speed, higher resolution, added fax, and longer warranty.

Thoughts?

Lexmark looks to me like it's a better option, and for just a little more, I'd go with it.

And it has better reviews than the other one.
