Thoughts drafting him 2nd round

He's developed very nicely in his college career and really shined this year in Nova's Final Four push. He's athletic and has an extremely polished offensive game. He's very good in the pick and roll offense and has range out to 18 feet+

My biggest concern is his size. He's more of a tweener type at 6'8 (I think) and isn't really big enough to play the PF position in the NBA unless he's with a big Center--which we don't have.

Brown said in his work out if any player was a Lynch type this guy is . I understand with his size how he could be considered a tweener. But 8 boards a game and his hussle. On both sides of the ball . And the lynth, he has got Brown calling him a garbage man . Brown said hes been watching the kid for a few years now and loves the way he goes about a game. Brown all so said with his fast first step he could guard some threes and most fours. He might not be a bad 2nd round pick up.

I like him. He's long and smooth and can play with some power. He reminds me a little of Hakim Warrick. He wouldn't be my 1st option with the #40 though.

They dont seem too high on him. Have you seen anywhere else where they project him near #40?

Draft Express has us taking him with our second 2....highest (I think) I've seen him is 47...

Good comparison , Who would be your top choice with that pick,
Jeff Adrien or Taj Gibson (assuming we go with a wing at #12)
or
Dionte Christmas or Wayne Ellington (if for some stupid reason we didn't go with a wing at #12)

slam I've got nothing against Adrien or Gibson but for flex (4-5) I'd consider Heytvelt with our first 2 also...but I do like lots of things about Gibson I just doubt he'll be there at 40...

To be honest with you BRNC I didn't take a lot of notice of him when I watched Zag games in the past or this year. I could understand that his shooting ability considering his size would be an advantage but he doesn't have a great motor or defensive skills.

I like Adrien a lot. I think he'd give us some grunt and grit in the 2nd unit. He's be a great intimadator and energy guy for us IMO.

Slam...I agree about his motor 100%...I like mant things about but as a PF I'm never going to be able to get around a 6'6" body...not in the NBA...

Swedd...more than anything else...sold me on seconds looks at Heytvelt...all the stuff I've read (as well as tape) has convinced me he'd be a good pick with our first 2...he can play 4-5 and has the offense we need there...and I think LB could get him up to speed on "D"...I think C. Anderson has been a good influence on some guys coming into the NBA (Heytvelt being one)...so I'd give him serious consideration along with Gibson (who I also like)...but Adrien is just to small as a PF for me...

Valid concern - but as a 2nd round pick I lower my expectations when it comes to the prospect matching the blue print to a position. He is under sized - and like you I'm often worried about undersized bigs - but he does also have a 7'2" wing span. In actual fact, I think (from memory) he measured out better at the combine than Blair.

I wouldn't expect him to log big mins at all, I don't really expect any 2nd round pick to log big mins, but I like the intangibles that Adrien brings to the table with the heart, passion, motor, fight and intimidation. Plus I see him backing up Crash a little at the 3 as well as playing the 4 - like Dude used to.

Heytvelt reminds me a little of Primoz.

Adrien and Blair did measure the same (wing span)...my problem is this...at what point is it no longer acceptable to expect so little from any draft pick...what I mean is this...

I respect (not really like) the Spurs because they approach the draft as life and death...they live by how they pick and it does not matter where they pick it "has to count"...I respect any franchise that stays under the cap and realizes that what they do as an organization effects their team and standing in the community...I want the Bobcats to have that same respect...I want every "pick" we make to have some level of expectation (and reality) to succeed in the NBA...not just a reach or a BS choice or even a "motor" choice...

I'd like to have a second round pick from our team actually succeed one of these days...not just be fodder...and there are certain "tools" that you have to have to do that...I think Adrien has the intangibles down but that is it...

You make very, very, VERY good points.

Maybe I need to start setting my sights a little higher when picking in the 2nd round!

I look at it like sure Adrien could be an energy guy off the bench, but that's basically it on his potential. Heytvelt has the skillset to be much more than just an 8-10 minute guy.

As for Adrien's length: He's 6'6 with a 7'2 wingspan. Heytvelt is 6'11 with a 7'2 wingspan. I'll take the extra 5 inches

My point...this organization needs to set itself highergoals...Why I'd trade EO50 (the only trade I'd make) to OKC or Memphis is this...the trade would help both teams...go with me...

They both need inside "D"...but more importantly they need a vet...which EO50 would give both...

I ran our average age and we're at 27 (without EO50 who is 27)...not young and not old...but to succeed you need a balance...if we trade EO50 and "expect" Nazr and Diop to play up to their contracts at the 5 and it is taken care of...with OKC we bring back Collison (a good but misused player and the #3 and #25)...smart drafting gets us Harden, Hansbrough or Earl (take your pick), and Collison or Maynor (take your pick)...

Memphis trade brings back Jaric (who they want to trade) and was one of three players on their team with a positive Roland rating...he is effective and can back up three positions...both he and Collison are vets...we also get (from OKC) #3 Harden, our #12 again Hansbrough or Earl, #27 Collison or Maynor...

We still expect Nazr and Diop to live up to their contracts...we get a future starter from Harden...we get two immediate role players...we have a bench...

I believe in the draft...why doesn't our FO...instead we (FO) talks about a BS trade for Dalembert who adds nothing...teams like the Spurs build through the draft...we need to learn to build through the draft...even a second rounders (Manu comes to mind) are important...so don't waste it!

I 100% agree...give me the "true" length and I'll teach the rest...
