Go after Allen Iverson next week if we do plan on trying to sign him? I was just wondering

Tough to say. I'm sure Iverson will want to see what's out there before he commits. A lot of teams might offer the MLE, which is basically all we could offer.

I'm also wondering if we might want to try and get a legit PF before we give money to AI.

Well I didn't mean sign him but I meant how long before we show an interest.

I think we should see if there is any interest in any teams for a Okafor sawp. I would like to see him traded.

I think feelers go out pretty quickly for everybody. As for when they get serious, I have no idea. Again, I'm guessing that Charlotte will look to see about viable F options first to make sure they don't pass up on a real need. If they don't find any strong options, then they might roll the dice on Iverson.

Hate to say it dude, but no way.

We have:

A tough defensive Point
A smooth offensive Point
A lock down defender on the wing and his project and eventual replacement
A super freak athlete
A jack of all trades point forward and his project and possible (?) replacement
Tough defensive Centers
And a high risk/reward big man.

All we're missing is a scoring 2 and a offensively adept 5.

swedd...Gooden has played 4 and 5...and is offensive (no pun intended)...also...check the new thread I just started in "draft" thread about undrafted players...who we should bring in for a look...Heytvelt (4-5)
was not drafted...

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/drew_gooden/index.html

Nba.com still list Gooden as a Forward-Center...

NBA.com or not, Drew Gooden is not a center any more than Gerald Wallace is.

wam...he had to play the at Cleveland when Z was injured...when he plays with a more defensive big (SA part of last year) he is effective...he does not have to operate in the lane and frankly many guys in the league playing the 5 can't play it...

I"m less concerned about what we call his position...he is effective and works outside the lane as well as in the lane...but yes...he has played the 5...

Wam...really not trying to quibble...my point...the three bigs we have (EO50, Nazr, and Diop) all have to work close to the basket...Gooden does not to be effective...we can't play those three together but he could be effective with any of them...I'm not really in favor of bringing AI here and was throwing out Gooden as another "vet" type guy to think about...I like his game with the guys we have and we might get him for a one year MLE...I doubt 'Sheed or AI will take a one year MLE but I could be wrong...I hope AI does not come here though...just my opinion not trying to offend...

He was effective for SA while he was there last season teej...but with all players (IMO) they have to be in a good fit...I think SA was a good fit for him and why he may take less to stay there...and they certainly want to keep him...so I can't really agree...I think POP would know if he was taking them back a level...

They didn't go as deep in the playoffs this year did they?

I'm not saying that was his fault, but he's rarely if ever helped anyone.

LOL same with Boris, they can both do it, but it's not ideal.

Heck, Boris can play every position on the court...who else in the NBA can do that?

Well I wouldn't mind bringing Gooden in to play backup 4. Just not backup 5

...we already have three 5s...I'd like to bring an athletic "big" in that does not have to be in the lane to be effective...and the UFAs for "bigs" is pretty thin...that's why I suggested Gooden...'Sheed...but again I doubt he'd do a MLE one year here...Dyce wants a ring...again not here...so I'm open...?

I'm not saying he hasn't played the 5 spot, just that he shouldn't and I am not interested in acquring him to play the 5 for us.

I also agree that he is better away from the basket and not like our other centers...IMO, your center should operate near the basket. Primo was more comfortable away from the basket as well and I don't want him back.

I am not against getting Gooden though. He could be a decent veteran pickup to play backup PF for us. I just hope we can do better with our MLE but maybe we can't.

By the way BRNC, no offense taken. We are all just throwing out random options right now and unless they actually suit up for us, we won't know how they would have actually worked out.

wam...I just wanted to make sure...you're OK with me....I know we are and I know I'm slightly baffled as to what we do with the MLE...I kinda flip between one vet worth it all or two (Like a combo and a PF if possible) to get us through one year...But I'm not going on the AI bandwagon...I really like the guy just fine ...but on someone elses team...

Money is tight and we can't have the parade of guys through (throwing money away) like we did last year...

Sheed is reportedly fielding calls from both the Celtics and the Magic. Do you think LB has enough pull to get him when those upper echelon teams are wanting him in the last few years of his career?

I think we use it on 1 player and get as high a quality guy as possible. We already have 9-10 guys that should make the rotation, 1 more veteran addition is all we can add without cutting into someone else's playing time. I would like to see it used on a veteran PF. Right now, I think that is our biggest area of need.

I'm not suggesting this dinosaur but, think of how long a guy like PJ Brown was able to make a positve contribution to an NBA roster. There have to be multiple guys out there which would really strengthen up our post play.

I'm also with you on Iverson. I actually like him as well but I'm not so sure he is right for this roster. I kind of have a feeling that we are going to look really hard at him though.
