Title says it all, what are we going to call the newest members of the Bobcats? I've seen Hendo and "12" (lol Beagle).
What else do we have?!
bing!

I'm sure many UNC fans are gonna come up with fitting nicknames for 12. As for me, I have no idea. 12 sounds fine.

Hendo is alright
Brown might be the new Felton meaning it's going to be hard to think of something.
Hendo for Gerald...or G-Unit?
For Derrick, since he's from Xavier I'm thinking either "The X-Factor" or "The Pope"

I vote we call Henderson "The Beagle" ! After his most adoring fan in the whole wide world! Actually, that could get confusing. How about "The Beagle II "

hahaha Beagle would have a cow...
well...with Brown...since he played for Xavier and was a Musketeer...choose either Athos, Porthos or Aramis. That's one thought...He is from Ohio so we could go with Jimmy (Brown) Jr. There was also a famous Poet/Performer (Derrick C. Brown)...so we could go with Poet (obscure)...Those are all I have for D. Brown off the top of my head...
Now Hendo...hummmm
Henderson of course is a Jr. So we could go obvious with Jr...His mom and dad run a Business in Blue Bell, Penn...always go with Blue for that (and people would think Blue Devils...LOL...too obscure?) The obvious "Smash" when he bloodied Hansbrough nose...still thinking...

G-Unit = Crash & Hendo

D'artagnan? since that's the one everyone knows? And he's joining Ray, LB and MJ (the Three UNC Musketeers)?
If you go four it is a great idea...still not sure the everybody would get it...but I like it...

I think we have to wait till we see them play a little. Who would have called Wallace Crash before seeing him play? I've seen Henderson but not alot of Brown. There names are nothing special so no cool nick names from that, nothing really special like there background or where there from so no real cool nick names there. Just gotta wait....
But here's one...Henderson....." Hometown "....Think about it....:g:

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!
Awesome to have you on board itscbaby. Happy to have your boy as a part of the team.
Fair to say you are a supporter of UPS? I see that there are some Xavier fans that weren't at all happy that he left for the NBA or thought that he wasn't ready?
Mind if I ask you some questions?
To be honest I didn't know much about Derrick before Thursday night, but the more I read about him, the more I like. Anything you could share with me about him/his game?
He seems like a pretty quiet kid - would that be fair to say? Does that carry onto the court or does he amp up once on the court?
What would you consider his strengths and weaknesses?
It would appear that he considers himself a lock down type defender. Would that be accurate?
He seems to be very, very long and athletic. Does he have good coordination and use it to his advantage?
How is the range on his J? Does he have any offensive post moves?
Do you think he'll have more of an impact at the NBA level as a 3 or as a 4?
Anything else you can share?

When Moose was in Chi-town Smith's numbers went down, and last year with Moose back they went back up. He plays with heart, drive, and guts, and not much else. Put him on a bad team and he'll disappear.

2003 had the Panthers go to the Superbowl.
2004, Smitty broke his leg--Panthers go 7-9
2005, Smitty returns and they reach the NFC Championship
2006, An early injury to Steve Smith led to a two-game losing streak, but his return coincided with a four game winning run.
He isn't overrated lol

2007 his stats were miserable, and when Moose came back in 08, they went back up to an all time high in avg.
And did they make the playoffs in 06?
I didnt say Moose was everything, but without Moose they arent nearly the same team. All you have to do is double cover Smitty.

Exactly. It took 2, sometimes 3 or 4 guys to keep him in check.
That's not because he's overrated.

I never remember 4...he's good yes, but he's not one of the best in the game like he's billed to be. I'd take maybe 15 guys before him.\
Oh, and if you dont like AI for his attitude, why Smitty?
DUDES - NO MORE NFL TALK IN THIS THREAD!!
What do you think of "Rock" as a nickname for Henderson?
Then when he makes a massive play for us, we can say:
Can you smell, what the Rock is cooking?
Or when he goes on a tear and lights up a team for 15 points in a quarter, we can say:
The Rock is laying the smack down.............

I think us unc homers might suggest "cheap shot" as a nickname, but in all seriousness I think he was a good pick at 12.
Smitty overrated!? I think any guy that gets the receiving triple crown cannot be overrated. Smitty in the open field is one of the most exciting guys in the NFL. I think Jake should be paying smitty royalties with the contract he got.
Huge statement.
Tell me his name.
I THINK it was Jon Light.
But I'm going to make sure before I commit.

Please don't think that I am painting all the Tar Heel fans with the same brush. I'm just having some fun.
It's easy to do when you are an outsider like me and don't have affiliation with with any college teams.
I THINK it was Jon Light.
But I'm going to make sure before I commit.
Might want to do that because I've never heard on Jon Light - and if he plays pro sport in Australia, I've heard of him.

When Moose was in Chi-town Smith's numbers went down, and last year with Moose back they went back up.
Smitty's yard per catch went up last year but that likely had more to do with actually having a ground game good enough to draw the defense closer to the LOS than it did having Moose.
Smitty's best statistical year was actually the first year Moose was in Chi-town.

As with all our nicknames, we can take our pick, it doesn't have to be concensus; for the most part, we know who we're talking about.
Henderson, for me, will indeed be "12," but it's not as much out of disrespect as it was on draft day....it's just unique enough, it's sorta grown on me.

Yea I would say Derrick is a quiet kid - don't mistake that for a lack of confidence though, he is full of that - not in a bad way though.
Honestly... as a bigtime Xavier fan, I felt it was a good time for him to go. He already graduated (redshirted as a freshmen) and has shown SO much improvement over last year that I feel he was ready to go. Unlike many other Xavier fans - i'm also a fan of the NBA - the fans that didn't think he should go were more-so narrow minded fans who don't understand the NBA game.
Strengths- Athletecism... he is a freak. Check the combine results. Versatility - though you would classify him as a 4, he can defend anywhere from the 2 to the 4 - as well as present some mismatches for bigger guys guarding him on offense. Finally - his will to improve. I don't have any exact figures, but around 70-75% of his points as a freshmen came from dunks. He realized he needed to add some perimeter ability to his game - he shots 43% from 3 this year. He will continue to improve himself, range, weight, strength and anything that LB feels he needs to improve on.
Weaknesses- Not necesarily a "take over" type of player at this point. Let's the game come to him, when in many instances he should have realized he needed to take over games and impose his will.
Slow release - I mentioned he shot 43% from 3 last year. Many collegiate defenders were afraid of his ability to drive past them, so they almost let him deliberatly shoot. He won't have as much time in the NBA and will need to work on speeding this up.
Weight- Though he was one of the strongest players at the combine, putting up I beleive 20 reps of 180 - he still needs to put on a little bit of weight in order to guard some of the 4's in the NBA.
As for post moves - not really a strong part of his game. He has an amazing first step on the perimeter, but when he gets it on the post, sometimes he relies too much on his turnaround jumper. With his long arms, developing a left handed hook could become a critical part of his career from here on out.
It's late, there is plenty more I have to share. All in all - the experts are right about this pick - he is a STEAL. He is good enough to make an impact for you guys right away. Though I doubt he will be able to completely fill the PF void that the Bobcats with the departure of May at this point in his career , he will be able to fill in some minutes there and bring something different off the bench that could cause problems for opposing teams.

Remember the wrestling tag team in the 80's known as Demolition? They went by Ax and Smash.
Why not name Gerald Henderson aka "Smash"? He likes to attack the rim so maybe it works.
I know it is stupid but for some reason the rhyming thing seemed to stick in my head.
If not Smash than Thrash. Crash and Smash or Crash and Thrash? I am not good at this kind of thing so I'll leave it to the experts. Just having a bit of fun.
