My favorite part is when he's talking about Danny Ferry and says, "99% of players in college would kill to have his career. Unfortunately, Danny isn't one of them."

i always thought randolph childress had a pretty amazing college career and disappeared in the nba. maybe he's not top 10, but he was definetly a bust....moreso than juan dixon, imo.

Really good idea for a list, but I don't agree with hardly any of them. The people who posted on the site after the article had much better ones. I mean, gimme a break, Laettner wasn't that bad as a pro (and believe me, as a Tarheel, I despise the turd), I mean, he made an all star team, had more than a couple 1K point seasons, was in the league for 10 or so years. Steve Alford? Not even close. Mateen Cleaves? No way. Keith Van Horn should be there ahead of Laettner, even though he wasn't a complete bust.
Also, I agree, Swedd, Juan isn't a bust. I don't even consider Cheaney a bust...he had some good, though not great years in Washington, and was in the league for 10 or so years as well. Roy Tarpley's another one that comes to mind. Chris Washburn. Hell, just about anybody from the notorious/tragic '86 draft. (What coulda been, Lenny, what coulda been :( )
Like I said, really cool idea for a list, just not executed all that well. And then I just brought myself down thinking about Lenny Bias.....let's move on.
Chris Washburn.
For sure.
dude's selling cars in texas to pay for his drugs. he should have had more money than anyone in that draft...

He's actually my all-time number one bust. I mean, at least Kwame is going to be in the league and producing to some degree for 10 or so years...hell, he's almost there already, and I don't think the Kandiman had one decent season. Only reason I didn't bring him up was because the list was of college stars turned NBA duds, and while he was sort of a big deal at Pacific and the Big West (or whatever conference), I don't think he was on any All American lists or anything, at least not first team.

Why does everyone call him kandiman, when Tom Candiotti was the Candiman in the 80's? I know they play diff. sports and one's c and one's k, but still...

How about Tracy MaGrady? He's a big star but what has he really ever done? He's been hurt half his carreer. Never been out the first round. How often des he make the NBA 1st, or 2nd team? Yeah, he scores points, But he's never available to play when the Rockets really need him.
Yao Ming and Greg Oden too.

Yao Ming and Mcgrady busts?
REALLY?
You're putting them in the same league as Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Darko Miličić?

Oden will be a bust, and I agree with you that T-Mac is appearing to be a flop. He can not stay healthy, and when he does it is for a few games at a time. Hard to not be a bust when you can not stay healthy. When he is healthy he plays good, kind of like may on his brief stint of healthiness. A flop is a flop i guess.
Oden is going to be a bust, whole rookie year gone, second season not much better.
Someone mentioned my alma mater guy Randolph Childress. He was balls to the wall in college, but a few short years in the NBA then went overseas after his torn ACL. Depressing.
I think 99.9% of the number one drafted bigs turn into below average players.

I get your point, but T-Mac also had five seasons where he was an MVP candidate. Granted, his greatness was relatively short lived, but he's a far cry from the many busts that out there.

T-Mac and Yao are All Star caliber players. Injuries are hurting them, but they are no where near discussing as busts.
And it just breaks my heart every time I think of Bias and what he could have accomplished in the NBA and in life. One of the most amazing players to ever play in the ACC. Basically, he pretty much beat a really good UNC team by himself in that ACC Tourney. Just a monster on the Court. Many games, he looked like a man amongst boys, just had a game that much better than the other guys on the Court. Yep, he was very special.
