View Full Version : How does Gortat possibly signing with Mavs effect us?

Two questions on how this...

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orlando-magic/orl-magic-gortat-to-mavs-070209,0,7804728.story

...may effect us.

First, it leaves Houston still needing a center, any chance it increases the possibility of us working something out with them for Nazr?

Second, does it increase our chances of signing Bass? I would think it would probably make it less likely Dallas tries to keep him but does it also mean that Orlando tries for him that much harder?

It would seem that Mavs will not look to sign Bass with this move...

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/60291/20090702/bass_camp_open_to_sign_and_trade_with_orlando/

I am a little worried about the sign and trade aspects (Mavs and Magic...Gortat for Bass)...since Orlando is a team that wants Bass just like us...

The other concern with Mavs in this mix...we know they want Ray so the longer it takes us to get him signed the more likely that the Mavs make him an offer...I think Kidd to NY (close to his children) is a good bet at this point...

That was something that has me worried as well.

Yes...I'm much more concerned about us getting Ray signed...but...if Bass is the guy the FO has targeted then we need to make an offer...the good thing for us with the Mavs is they want to move Dampier...we could offer sign and trade with Nazr (helps us move him if FO really wants to move him) who will have an expiring next year...it might have appeal for the Mavs...

I was thinking about the Magic possibly being interested in Nazr. They now have no centers besides Howard. They don't need a great backup, just someone to hold down the paint while Howard is resting.

Salaries are hard to match up for a trade, but you never know.

Does anyone smell a 3 way trade brewing?

A three way might work but the Magic have to match the offer made to Gortat in seven days...correct...or they get nothing back?

their GM already said they wont match

No match...no three way trade...Magic would have to be willing to do the sign and trade so it would work...

I don't think there is any way Orlando matches the offer for Gortat. The biggest factor, in my mind, is that he would be a backup behind Orlando's best player. If I were Orlando, I would much rather spend my money on Bass then Gortat.

For the record, I like Gortat and think he makes much more sense for Dallas then for Orlando.

By the way, I also think Dallas is also probably going to resign Kidd. They came with a pretty good number and I bet he takes it.

I would be most worried about Orlando signing Bass outright then anything else right now.

With Hedo Turkoglu expected to sign with the Raptors, the Magic could make a serious play for Nate Robinson. A source told the New York Post that two of Robinson's most serious inquiries have come from the Lakers and Magic.
The Blazers, Heat and Bulls are believed to have asked about Robinson's services as well.

If they sign nate, yall think they would have enuff to still try an sign bass??...man i hope not...diaw an bass would look so great as our PF combination

Rasheed Wallace is pondering an offer from the Celtics, while the Magic, Mavericks and Spurs are expected to show interest next week. Agent Bill Strickland said that the Cavaliers could make a late play for Wallace's services as well.
All of the interested clubs are expected to offer the free-agent forward a deal around the mid-level exception, which is worth $5.8 million.
"He could retire right now and be happy," Strickland said. "But that's something we've already dealt with. He said, 'I want to play more and go for another ring.' "

another case where i wouldnt mind seeing orlando get this player...so we can get bass babyyy

Swedd..he bailed on them...his wife wants to live in a "more European like city"...so he's headed to Toronto...and they (Toronto) are having to renounce just about all their FAs so more coming on the market...

I just read that on ESPN. I'm at the beach and haven't really been paying attention but wowww Turkgolu is a bitch! We need to be worried about Portland taking our top guys because they have more cap space and a better team than we do.

The Gotart signing shows you the value of a second tier center in this leauge. I am suprised that more teams haven't come calling for one of our three centers. (Naz, Oak, Diop) Look at the Raptors and the Rockets they have nobody. I don't think we should be in to much of a hurry to gets rid of naz's contract. He is probably going to play well to start the season and could quickly become a valuable commodity.

I agree about "getting rid of the contracts"...one of those guys (move a contract we don't want for a need) could really help us in a sign and trade...I agree that some teams are hurting at the 5 and it could help...

He's working out this year to get PT...I expect he'll be in great shape when he comes to camp...and if that's the case his value only goes up...
