Rumors going around we offered B Bass a five year 25 milion dollar contract.
If this is true it looks like another small move just like Vald, Nazr , Diop.

Its about time for MJ to grow a set, and make some big moves.

i want bass badly, but the article states that we are not the team that was rumored to have offered him the deal. it is bonnell's blog, but it just states that the 'cats are interested and a team has supposedly offered the deal. wednesday can't get here quick enough....let's get these deals rolling already.

Even if we made the offer the mavs could still match. I think Bass could be a good value at the 5 mil level though.

No they cant, they gave their mid to Gortat. Unless they want to go over the cap (not a problem when you are owned by Mark Cuban) they will let him go. They could go over the cap, but since they arent really 'hot' on him, i doubt it..

If this goes down i will be happy because it means no Sean May.
I hope Juwan comes back as a player-coach type thing where he can mentor Bass/Brown and also get around 10 minutes each game.

I just don't see what we can do, though. There aren't many people we can get that would be great for the MLE. Trades would likely hurt us as much as help us.

It's just not so simple to upgrade a team through trades or the MLE, especially when you're not a favored team for a championship.

With the team having a lame duck owner, any and all additional spending is going to be like pulling teeth for MJ and LB. With the team at/near the salary cap, any move could be the last they are allowed to make (if they're even allowed to make that move). If the team had an owner that wanted to spend to win, I have zero doubt that the braintrust could find a player or two that they'd like to sign, but with Frugal Rob signing checks it's (probably) not going to be a reality.

On the plus side, MJ should be free to travel the globe without being considered to be shirking his responsibility.

Now that the Mavericks have re-signed Jason Kidd and made an offer to Marcin Gortat, they have turned their attention to restricted FA Brandon Bass.

Bass is probably looking for a five-year deal in the $25 million range, but the Mavs are thought to have offered around $3.5 million per year. "Brandon's still very interested in Dallas," his agent said recently. "We're making headway. We're just not there yet." Bass has also received interest from the Magic, Bobcats and Hornets.

I really hope we can do a sign-and-trade with them...if they'd take Nazr or Radman, it be great, though I'd rather give up Nazr...

Nazr = Useless on our Team

Radman and UPS are 2 totally seperate players. One is a shooter, the other a slasher.

haha..ay i just read this...dont no if somebody already put this in another thread

Guys, one last thing:
Over the weekend, I blogged that one possible way for the Bobcats to acquire Dallas's Brandon Bass was via sign-and-trade. Didn't know details of how that might be done, but I suspect the Bobcats were briefly involved in what the Mavs and Raptors are trying to do, involving Shawn Marion.
I do not expect the Bobcats to ultimately be the third team if that very complicated deal goes through.

I think Bonnell is reaching bigtime on that one. Those two need a third team that has CAPSPACE as Toronto can't take any salary back (they'd take 2 million on a Stack for Marion swap) and still give Turk that salary they promised him.

Radman=Scorer who can't score...like AmMo
UPS=versitile
Nazzy=offensive bigman, which we need.

Nazr is not an offensive bigman...I'm sorry, when he first got here, just like Radman he played very well, but after that he went down bad...I'd rather have Radman than Nazr

I don't recall Naz playing bad only not getting any minutes. In fact I have always been struck by how little drop off we seemed to get from Oak to Naz. His contract wouldn't even be bad if we had minutes for him there is just not a lot of room with Diop also.

i agree with gobobs. i too never understood why nazy got such limited mins off the bench and don't see the difference between he and diop over an 82 game season. i liked what i saw from radman, but b/w the two, i'd rather keep nazy. either way, at least one of these big contracts needs to come off our books this year, if not two.

Yea, GoBobs is right, anytime Nazzy gets pt he plays well. He's a competitor, and he needs pt to get going. He was great all season in 07-08...

old, slow and mediocre. greatness is not a tag you can bestow on Nazr. I mean he started 30 games in 07-08 and averaged 9 points. 6.9 rebounds and .9 blocks. If thats greatness, Mek is a legend.

at least Diop has room to grow. Nazr's apathetic on court demeanor made Okafor look like Shaq on cocaine. He really doesnt bring anything to the table. I mean if you think Larry Brown just doesn't give him minutes because he is a mean old crumudgeon, then i think you guys might need to rewatch some game tape.

that all sounds really like i hate Nazr. I dont. he would be a perfectly good player at any kind of a decent contract price. however that is not the case.

9 points and 7 rebounds in a mostly off the bench role is pretty dang solid for a big man. There are starters that don't get that. Every game I watched Nazzy helped out when he didnt have the ball, and made an impact when he did. He didn't get that contract for nothing, and was the starting center on a championship team just a couple seasons ago. I think he's miles ahead of Diop...

well i wont argue that. i think they both suck. almost as bad as their contracts. and there are very few decent teams in the league that have a starting center contributing less than 9 and 7. and he was the starter for 30 of those 60 games. sure 9 and 7 aint bad for a 30 win team. but it wont cut it if you want glory.

Nazr is a great role player. the only reason we dont want him is because of his contract. Larry definitely did not give him enough minutes last year. Diop is just embarassingly rediculously terrible. haha Ryan Hollins when he was 4 years old would have schooled Diop. Hes a hard worker though so I support him.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner.

And Naz works just as hard.

teej,

You are my dude, but connecting Brown and Radman or Ammo and Radman are both way off, IMO.

Radman's contract isn't great, but I disagree with people that he compare him to Ammo and saying he doesn't have any value. He actually can play the 3 and 4 and spread the floor for guys to get into the lane. He also will take the ball into the lane when bigger covers run out on him. Furthermore, the idea of just pitching away shooters without bringing any back does not add up on this team, IMO. And this is coming from a guy who has advocated for Brandon Bass for 2 years. I would LOVE to have him on my team.

All the slashers in the world don't matter if you don't have guys on the wing who can spread the floor for them. You can name many any playoff team who has advanced much in the last couple of years and I will show you how they used shooters to help their playoff runs while showing how athletic non 3 pt shooting teams like Philly and Atlanta struggle in the halfcourt and go home. On this board we tend to get lulled into the wet dream of athleticism while failing to recognize that all the penetrators, post guys, and slashers in the league are most effective when they have shooters to eliminate help defense.

I will agree with you that Nazr can be productive though. Given opportunity he can certainly be productive. I would prefer him to Diop with their respective contracts. If Diop could actually do something with Dwight Howard (the ONLY reason I somewhat could justify the pick), it would be one thing. But if he is gonna get beasted too, I would prefer Nazr's contract and have not traded Hollins and Carroll.

He can play the four offensively, yes, but he doesn't know what the word defense means. He looks as lost as Lexy on that front. He's a decent shooting three without looking at his contract, but after his first couple games with us he did almost nothing. I love the guy, but I don't think he fits as well as another type of three shooter. And I totally agree that we need 3pt shooting. But we do have DJ, Diaw, and Hendo now.

Henderson isn't exactly the greatest outside shooter in the world..

Are we seriously have a discussion about the value of Radman vs. Morrison?

For $6mil Radman produces a shitload more than Ammo ever will for his $4mil contract. Case closed.

You have to pay to play so with that said give him 5mill that isn't that bad of a deal for a monster on the glass like him.

Radmanovic is not even in this discussion. He is worth his contract. He contributed more last year than Adam Diop and Nazr combined.

Really... it all comes down to we shouldn't have traded Ryan Hollins. i miss him.
