After reading that Observer link I'm loving the fact that UPS feels like he has something to prove to the teams that passed on him he'll be playing w/ a chip on his shoulder by the sounds of it.
"I've never been given anything. I've never been a highly touted recruit," Brown said. "Everything I got I earned. I don't expect it to change now."
Great quote.

9 points 3 boards is nothing great but decent in his first outing.
He gets his 2nd chance in about a hour . Wonder if any Bobcat coaches is travling with him . Hes the only Bobcat on the team .
I sware this makes Bob Johnson look cheap'...
Sorry guys didn't see the other Summer league thread . We should post on it for todays games.

Don't exagerate. There is no room in May's mouth for a chip...with 6 big macs stuffed in there:)

david b. thorpe Derek Brown should be a good pro. I'm not sure he will be. He has to get a lot better.
ahh..... so wtf are you saying?

i'm curious how the jazz sl team is in regards to the amt of playing time given to a teams loaned player. it's not like brown is gonna rot on the bench, but i would assume the jazz' main concern is their own players first. i just hope all of our players that need the burn and experience will still get it on other teams.

D Brown just had a ESPN highlight dunk . From the free through line windmill dunk this kid is a player . Jazz wins Brown looks great . This kid is a player . The sleeper in the draft. T Williams looked like crap. Brown played decent time today. This kid is going to be good .
Final stats hasn't came up yet.

4 for 8, 10 pts in 19 mins played but he had 4 TO's.
Also,
Psyco T, 5 for 11 making 14/14 free throws for 24 points.

Derek Brown has the ability to be a great help blocker. Think Josh Smith (lite version)

I know it's SL but it wouldn't surprise me if UPS takes away Vlads minutes.

I only saw a little bit of the third today. Brown looked pretty good from what I saw. He was playing some good D and had another nice jam on his defender. He pump and drove the baseline and dunked it on him. You can tell he is very athletic. I wish I could have seen more. Anyone know when Henderson's first game is? I know he's in LV.

When the lady was talking about UPS's slam as the highlight of the day, I couldn't help grinning and thinking, "Yeah, and he's all ours!"
And eaton---I mean, Dead Real, I have to say, I hope you're right. I think more UPS PT will pay dividends for us, if not in the short term, then definitely the long term!

Yeah Psycho T is making a lot of the so called Sports Gurus that said he was shit, look like shit. They gave the Pacers a D- or something for the draft due to them picking Tyler hans but he is solid. Pacers 3-0. Solid
it's summer league and he is playing against mostly college kids and 2nd year guys he played in college. he should be putting up decent numbers.

Exactly...................... it's the Summer league folks, which is even worse than the D-League(respect).It's good to see the rookies in action nonetheless.

not to be controversial, but what does this say about browns production. if he is only getting 6-10 points in summer league, how productive can we expect him to be in actual games. i mean he is getting somewhere around 20 minutes a game so far, and i really dont forsee him getting that much time in our rotation.

Yeah I have to agree. My view is a decent player should look great in SL and a very good player should practically dominate. If you don't do well in SL I don't think it bodes well in regards to being a real rotation player anytime soon.
Of course there are exceptions to that...but probably not many in regards to wing/bigs.

2 examples. last year DJ didnt wow anybody with his summer league stats, but was much better when he was playing with the regular rotation players. also, Bayless was i believe the MVP of the summer league he was in, but barely played last year. Not saying he isnt good, but stacked behind good players on a good team.

For the last few years I've seen players from Anthony Randolph to Joe Alexander plain dominate the SL then not really do much when the season starts.
It's all a product of the system. I dint hold SL in very high regard. It's nothing more than pickup games to me.

I thought DJ had some high scoring SL games?
D.J. Augustin, 30 points, 9/14 FG, 10/11 FT, 0 assists, 5 turnovers
That was his line vs GSW. He did have a couple of "blah" games though.
I'd be more interested to see what he is doing on the defensive end when he is out there.
Plus, he's not playing for our SL team. He'd be like the red headed step child of the Jazz SL team. Why would they run plays for UPS when they are trying to evaluate their own talent?
Can't take anything at all out of this years SL for our boys IMO because they are not playing on our team.

25 points today in 22 minutes! Good job Derrick Brown, that's what I want to see!

Here's the numbers from game 4:

Also, living up to his nickname, recap says UPS converted a 3 pt play to tie the game with 14 seconds sending the game into OT.
Overall, I'm with Slam's take on how to view this year's SL. I'm just really glad to see Derrick assert himself and not shy away from taking shots despite being the "red headed stepchild" on the team. Dude is ice!

Brown finished with 13 points today . The anouncers say hes a beast and should be a solid part of the rotation this year. UPS seems to be for real.
I jusy hope the Hendo pick proves to be as good.

Cartier Martin plays for the Warriors?
He's a beast out there
I could not believe we did not trade our two second round picks to move into the bottom first to draft Brown....(I know several others thought we should also)...I'm just glad we finally "lucked" out and got (what I think will be) the stal of the draft...makes me feel better with UPS on the team if Crash has to miss a few games...I'm just hoping that he gets at least 10-12 minutes a game...that's the only way he is going to improve...and I don't care who he takes minutes from...!

I work when the games are on so I still haven't been able to see live play out of him. I hope he does play with a chip on his shoulder. I have no idea why he dropped so low in the draft. He worked out for 19 teams. I knew nothing about him on draft night and i know just about jack shit more. And Jack left town yesterday.
