The agent for Dallas free agent Brandon Bass has identified Orlando, Detroit and Portland as the finalists among teams vying for the 4-year pro's services, according to a report by RealGM.com.
Veteran forwards Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess topped the free agent list at their position this summer because of their experience and proven toughness. Now that Wallace is headed to Boston and McDyess is likely to join San Antonio, Bass is a hot commodity.
Agent Tony Dutt tells the website that the former LSU Tiger will have a deal done in the next couple of days. Bass, a second round selection by the Hornets after leaving college, had shown interest in rejoining New Orleans, and it was believed there was mutual interst from the Hornets.
While Bass will likely receive a deal for less than the mid-level exception, the Hornets will now look to bolster their thin frontcourt with even lower priced free agents such as Jake Voskuhl, Mikki Moore and another ex-LSU star, restricted free agent Glen "Big Baby" Davis, among others.
As a key figure off the Mavericks bench last season, Bass averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds a game.

Sucks, because I would have loved to have him, but I think if Orlando gets him, it'll just make them better...Ryan Anderson and Bass...nice young guys coming off the bench..

I think if they open up the bank and give him the money he will come. Give Bass about 4 mill and how about 2 mill to Grant Hill. I know he wants a starting job but he will be good insurance for crash at the 3.

I think Bass is already getting full MLE money. So, why would he take less to come to a team with less of a chance for a championship?
playoffs...PLAYOFFS?

i didn't even get my hopes up...we don't really have the capacity to bring in any decent FA right now...and probably not for another two more seasons unless the situation with these contracts (nazr, diop, vladi) improves

I figure that why we havent heard anything to date, the FO could be trying to work some sort of trade along those lines... What worries me is that in order to do that sort of trade we may have to throw in a core player and that would defeat the purpose....

True..but a trade is almost the only way to go about it. The situation is just not pretty and the competition keeps getting better...

Forward Bass agrees to four-year deal with Magic (http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/david_aldridge/07/10/magic.bass/)
The Orlando Magic are trying to keep up in the arms race in the competitive Eastern Conference, agreeing to terms on Friday with free agent forward Brandon Bass on a four-year deal believed to be worth $18 million.
Much better than Detroit signing him IMO.

I don't think we had a shot. With Hedo going to Toronto Orlando could offer him a starting gig...or at least major minutes on a 2009 finals team.
