I know it is unlikely that Vlad will opt out but, it sure would be nice to see him have a pretty good year and opt out after next season hoping to cash in with another MLE from some team.
Can we pay him money to opt out? Kind of like buying him out of his contract? Like give him 2 million to opt out?
If so, would he count 2 or 7 million against the 2010/2011 cap....
I know it's a little soon to be talking about next offseason but, it sure doesn't look like we will do anything this offseason.

With the salary cap supposedly dropping a significant amount next year it's hard to imagine him or Nazr either one opting out unless they are just absolutely that unhappy.

let the boo-fest BEGIN!
I think if we put him in a Jamal Crawford situation, he might opt out or we could trade him.
He wants to play, he's made that clear. Same with Nazzy.

No and no. Neither of those guys is getting money like that again, and I think they both know it. They may be unhappy, but they don't have championship caliber teams burning up the phones to attain them.

Totally agree with that. They may try to get traded, they may try to be bought out, but there is no chance that they'll pay for their freedom - by opting out. Nazr will probably not earn the money he'll make in his final season for the rest of his life. And Vladi can't sign any other MLE as well.

Vladi's and Nazr's contracts have been scrutinized and criticized, as well as the trades that brought them here. The truth is though, they really aren't the problem. What I want to know is why has the Diop trade not been held to that same level of scrutiny. I know he was LBs special project. ILBIT and all that, I get it. But that deal is proving to be the most damaging trade in franchise history.
Vladi was one of the few consistent scoring threats on an otherwise lackluster second unit and Nazr was a solid backup C until he was benched in favor of Diop. When given the opportunity, they've earned their keep. Diop, on the other hand, has turned out to be little more than a stiff with an overrated reputation as a post-defender and non-existent offensive skills. And for this we'll be paying him nearly $7 million by the time his contract expires 3 YEARS FROM NOW. Had we not made that ill-advised trade we'd have Hollins' salary (albeit minimal) off the books and we'd be getting $500,000 back from Carroll's deal every year. Furthermore, we really could have used Carroll by the end of the year since we had no back up SG, but 3 centers. I love LB like we all do, but he was off the mark on this one. Trading for Diop has absolutely crippled us.

Yeah, I don't like it either, but remember if LB gets him going then he'll be pretty dang good. That's my hope and I'm sticking to it

I actually like Vladi o.k. and don't mind keeping him around. I think the problem with Nazr was that he wasn't being very productive under Brown at all.
Diop is unquestionably a better defender, but needed to get in better shape and learn Brown's expectations. I have hopes for Diop, though who knows?
The reason people didn't bring up Diop in this thread is:
* Diop is not expiring soon, so the point is moot.
* Diop can be a needed defender for us inside. Nazr and Vladi can't.

I really think that if Diop would learn how to score points he would be perfect for us. I like Nazr but he is getting older now, maybe his off season workouts will make him workout for the team a lot better.....Mek is Mek he is still soft and will always have that tendacy to be soft....

Diop is a 8 year player now, and he's 27, I don't think he'll ever learn how to score. His best scoring average is 3.0

Nazr Is horrible. I remember in those short minutes that he did get late in the year has was garbage. His contract is just eating up money. Atleast Vlad has a chance to be productive. Even though he trailed off at the end of the season he has the potential to come off the bench and heat up on any given night. Nazr....I hate him only .8 % less then Sean May right now. Did the Ham Biscuit give him that silly contract? I know we needed a C when they picked him up, But damn he wasn't any where near name brand.
