LAS VEGAS - The Charlotte Bobcats drafted Gerald Henderson last month. So what was the former Duke star doing playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday?
David Kahn, the Wolves' president of basketball operations, said he was doing Bobcats coach Larry Brown a favor.
''Charlotte didn't have a summer league team, and Larry wanted the kid to have a summer league experience," Kahn said. "We're glad to have him with us."
Henderson had a tough time in his debut with his "new" team, going scoreless in 18 minutes as the Wolves fell to Houston, 79-65.
''I didn't know what I was going to do," Henderson said. "So when I had an opportunity to come out here and play, I thought it was the best thing for me."
He was reunited with Wayne Ellington, his high school teammate and later his college rival at North Carolina.
''That was fun," Ellington said. "I didn't expect to see him here, but it was a nice surprise."

Did he touch the ball? It looks like Ellington was a black hole on offense.

Did he touch the ball?
On offense he shot 2 jumpers & made a play for a teammate after driving to the rim.

You can't judge him off of one game but we need a scorer behind Bell because Hendo isn't going to give us much in the scoring department. Can anyone say AI?

SMH You can't be a scorer if your not getting opportunities to score like I said when Flynn/Corey Brewer weren't chucking fade away 3 pointers & actually gave the rock to Hendo twice that's the only time Gerald looked at the rim.

I'm not saying he can't score but we need someone more reliable than him for when Bell goes down to injury or something of the sort.
There is absolutely nothing that we can learn from 1 summer league game. Whether or not Henderson can be a scorer in this league is yet to be determined.

Henderson may well end up being a fine player NBA player, and I agree that we can't know much from one game, but here's what we do know:
-He lacks a consistent jump shot
-He was a good, but certainly not dominant scorer at the college level
-He's a rookie, who like all rookies, will have a steep learning curve
All of that taken together leaves me feeling a bit less confident in his "NBA readiness" than some of my fellow posters. He's a strained groin or sprained ankle away from being our starter, and in a year where we're trying to make the playoffs, I have some concerns about that.
A lot more concerns than if AI was here and Raja was a missed practice away from being our starter.

LoL at all the anger/judgment being thrown down in here.
He was playing on the Timberwolves team as a favor by them to us. The Timberwolves team is going to have the main goal of improving the Timberwolves players/getting them involved, not some guy the Bobcats sent over;)
So Flynn/Ellington/Brewer/whoever else had every single right to gun shots, its their team. Did you guys expect for them to make a 'outsider' part of the gameplan (even if he and Wayne were teamates at one point?)

Didn't get to watch the game he did play in, but I think it's telling that Henderson got 2 steals. If he can do nothing else for our team but defend 2 guards, then I feel he's got a place on this team.

If he is playing this bad in the summer league then he is going to play terribly in the NBA.

I think its funny how someone can play in his first game with a bunch of guys he never played with, with a coach he has never worked with, in a league he has never played in, on a team that he isnt on and just because it didnt turn out very good now some of yall think he is going to be a scrub.... Give it a rest people, its just his first game....

His next game is comin' up on 17th, maybe he can plead for minutes.
He should hook up with Sean while he's there and paint the city of Vegas red. Sean could teach all about the tricks of the trade (gorge, bow your head and pick up the salary).

Next game I'm lobbying for Hendo to steal the ball from Flynn & shoot a 3 pointer like Carlton did to Will on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air...

I watched the first game and in my opinion Hendo's contribution this year will mainly come from his defense and on the court hustle. He seemed to really always be aware of his defender on defense and when a steal or two happened he hustled down the other end of the court on the fast break. Regardless of his shot, those intangibles should be welcomed on any team. On offense he just looked lost. Like he was Tom Hanks in Cast Away. He was on an island with no one coming to rescue him. Hell, he didn't even have a Wilson to keep him company....
If he is playing this bad in the summer league then he is going to play terribly in the NBA.
Please tell me you are being sarcastic...

Well, after we saw how Jazz treated UPS, we certanly expected better. Hendo could practice his golf driving instead of this.

Ja war dass lustig, schlägt Carlton das Ausgangzeichen über der Tür, nein wo nahe am hinteren Ausschuss.
Translation:
Yeah that was funny, Carlton hit the exit sign over the door, no where near the back board.

There's a guy playing for the Lakers that's averaging 20 points, with them being loaded at the wing positions, maybe we could trade for him.
Summer league is fun to watch and can give you an idea of how good guys can be, but just like Public Enemy says, Don't Believe the Hype!

This is the question and response to Gerald Henderson not getting playing time and maybe not getting offensive touches during summer league? Steve Kyler is from Hoopsworld and is in Las Vegas for Summer League.
Why didn't Gerald Henderson play in the game against NBA D-League Select? Is he hurt?
Steve Kyler:
No... there are contract things and some guys get held out... Gerald is on "loan" and he did not get much action in game 1... What was said here in Vegas was that he was not expected to play much from the beginning, it was about him practicing and getting some structured work in, he's not part of the Timberwolves plans as he's a Bobcat, so they are using those minutes for their guys.... we're hearing that DeJuan Blair may not play again until his deal gets done.

I'm not worried about anything except him learning bad habits. Once he gets with LB, everything will be fine.

dnb - did you see tonights game?? It was 100% what you said. Nothing about the way he played flowed or was with intent. Sure, he got shots up, but the shots were all improv and bogus. Totally forced and herky jerky.
I'm with you. Bad habits take 5 mins to learn and 5 weeks to break (when it comes to sport). Lets hope there isn't too much damage because of this bogus SL "experiment".
We HAVE to have Hendo around LB, DJ, Raja, Crash, UPS, Boris, EO50, Gana, Radman, Nazzy, Lexy, TMNT as possible.

I didn't see it, but I was a little concerned after reading comments about his summer league situation. I'm as concerned about what he's doing in practice as much as I am about his games.
Hopefully, it won't be a big deal and he simply will be in better physical condition.

OMG, Henderson wasn't that big of a scorer in college why are ya'll talking like we drafted him to get 15 pts a game off the bench. He's a back up, let the man learn and play his role.

But he needs to improve his freethrow shooting BADLY
