Any other runners on BCP?

If so, I'm sure that you guys are much faster and run much farther than me. Right now I'm keeping it to relatively tame distances like 3 to 4 miles. I was planning to begin increasing my distance this week, but I woke up Tuesday morning with an ugly swollen knee..... So I guess I'll have to :airquote:take it easy:airquote: until the swelling goes down.

Just curious for those of you out there that run, Do you listen to music while you run? If so what type of music? What type of shoe do you run in (Brooks Beast for me)? Have any of you dropped any serious weight as a result of running?

I guess that's enough questions for one post

You should ice your knees if they swell up that bad. 20 minutes of ice, 10 minutes of heat, then do some small range of motion stretches.

I'm going to have to get into a routine of icing it. It's the right knee that swells from time to time, I've had no problems out of the left one. I had the Dr. look at it about a year ago, but they didn't see any arthritis or tears or other issues with it... Maybe I'm running incorrectly :g:

My dad has run marathons since his late 20s (he's now 60). He was a a predominately road course runner (did Boston a couple times and New York once) until the late 90s when he discovered ultra marthons which are run in parks, forests, swamps, mountains (basically any terrain BUT paved and smooth) and are usually well over the standard marathon distance. He's run quite a rew 50 milers, and helped a friend of his run a ===GASP=== 100 miler in the Sierra Nevada's back in '06!!!

He has a pronated (sp?) heel, so he has to build his shoes up with inserts and such. He uses Montrails for his ultra running, and Nike for his regular road jogging (don't know the models for either, but can find out if you want.)

He stretches both before and after running and ices his knees and achilles afterward. Stretching before and after can't be emphasized enough, ziggy, if you're not already doing it.

He doesn't listen to any music.
