View Full Version : Feelings on Felton here on BP

I wanted to what you feel felton can do for this team, whats he worth, and if he deserves to continue as the starting PG when we could bring in A.I. or let our future PG Augustin start.

I'd say 3 years, 6, 6.5, 7. Thats 19.5 mil. But hey, if we get him for less, I'm game.

Agree with teej. Even though he's not our PG of the future, he's a really good player and I love him. It'll keep the pressure of DJ till we know he's ready to succeed.

I voted to let DJ start. I think he can be a great point if we let him play. We would just have to pick up a cheap vet. point to back him up

He's worth 6 to 8 but I think we'll get him in the 4 (5) to 6 range...if nothing else on his qualifying offer THAT WE ARE COMMITTED TO! As a restricted free agent it's all in HIS court on whether he wants to be here regardless if we want to trade him or not!

Felton won your poll a couple months ago 2 to 1...adding a SHOOTING GUARD shouldn't change that.

Man make as many polls/threads as you want. I apologize for getting a little "short" as this Felton thing has been explained a lot. This board is full of intelligent posters and I'd hate for anyone to suggest/get their hopes up for something that's not going to happen.

My caveat: if DJ can come in and supplant Felton as Larry Brown's starting PG then I have no problem with it. Either way we'll only have like 8 million tied up in 2 very good PGs, and most teams can't say that.

Based off of last year tho I still think DJ needs some time to grow.

jazzer89

see i am hoping for felton to take a 3 year deal (around 6mill preferably) so that in 2 years we can trade his expiring contract and let DJ start. i want this b/c i believe DJ needs, at the very most, 2 years to become better than felton. I have a lot of respect for felton, he works his tail off the entire year but the one thing that pushs DJ ahead of felton is shooting.DJ has a tremendous shot felton don't. what DJ needs to work on in the next few years is his defense and passing decisions/ability after that your looking at a great PG to lead the team for the next 6 years.

back when this place wasnt overrun with trade talks between fans and talk lacking any sustenance, i bitched about felton constantly. he got better, but he aint good. DJ is a defensive liability but a better pg. dont pull out bullshit assist stats, as most of his minutes were with two pgs on the floor (him and felton)

4-6 he stays, but he wouldnt stay for that... id try to salvage some value and work on a sign and trade... but if he was that good, there would be more demand

got to agree, if you felt like you were worth 7+ million why not and go out and get that contract with a team that feels the same, then hope the bobcats match. obviously no one is going to pay felton more than the bobcats and that is why the bobcats wont sign felton until he realizes he is not worth what his agent is asking.

felton is thought too highly of on this board, and if i had to have a PG to play in front of DJ while he develops i would go and get AI with the MLE.

So David Lee is crap now because he can't get an offer? Was Emeka crap last year when he couldn't get an offer other than from us?

Ben Gordon last year? The Bulls' fans were thinking exactly like you are now...and they ended up losing Gordon for NOTHING. Same with the Bucks and Charlie Villanueva.

felton is thought too highly of on this board, and if i had to have a PG to play in front of DJ while he develops i would go and get AI with the MLE.

Unlike the great Arnott...who thinks that CJ Watson's offer of around 1.5 per from the Warriors is a good benchmark for what Felton should get? Who has repeatedly advocated letting Felton walk for NOTHING in order to let his preferred player start?

Please. Before you make a blanket statement about this board maybe YOU should realize that there is a lot more going on here like the economy and being a RESTRICTED free agent.

This board has a very IQ in regards to basketball. Those others? Not so much. Most of them have no idea there's even rules that has to be gone by.

I'm not even going to acknowledge that last line.

how can you call me out for being wrong, there is no reason why you can call my OPINION wrong. It might not make sense to you but there are probably many nonbobcats fans that could totally agree with me.

Okafor and Lee are undersized centers who have worked well in their respective systems. Lee numbers last year are severely inflated. Okafor is not as great as many of you guys believe. He has underacheived being that he was the 2nd overall pick. The guy has no heart and for the beginning of his career he could not stay healthy. There are several reasons why Okafor and now Lee did not get contracts from other teams.

look there is a reason why gordon did not have an offer last year, he sucked the year before + he was injured. So what does he signs the QO offer and goes out and has a great year and an even better playoffs. Bulls knew he could walk when they did not sign him to a long term deal. (He was a UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT)
The bucks did not want villanueva if they did they would have offered a qualifying offer. They came out and said that they did not want him and allowed him to become AN UNRISTRICTED FREE AGENT.

An whats wrong with my last line, if we sign Iverson to the MLE we dont push ourselves closer to the luxery tax making it easier to sell the team. Plus Iverson is at the tail end of his career making the transition from iverson-DJ a lot less of a headache then a guy in his prime(felton) to a young and upcoming PG (DJ)

Iverson is a scorer which is what this team needs, do i like him very much no but i would rather avoid all this hoopla with felton and DJ, and just take a guy who has a little left in the tank, played for larry brown, and could actually boost our offensive output.

critisize me all you want but there are some actual basketball analysists(non bobcats fans) that would go along with my statements

There are several reasons why Okafor and now Lee did not get contracts from other teams. But there was mainly ONE...they were (and in Lee's case is) RESTRICTED.

I can call your opinion wrong on why Felton hasn't gotten another offer because there has just been too many situations in the recent past where a restricted free agent got no offers and then got big ones after they became unrestricted. I can also point out that NO TEAM HAS CAPSPACE...and maybe one team in the league can offer Felton a contract over the MLE (Sacramento). It's also presumed by those teams that the Bobcats will match a MLE offer...so what's the point for them?

But it's much easier to just say he hasn't gotten an offer because he sucks, right?

if felton was worth what most people here think(6-8mill then why have the knicks not looked at him. Felton has to be better than sessions right? or what about the clippers they're looking at sessions as well. why is a guy who has barely played getting serious looks by other teams when there is still a chance(even though it is a slight one) that the bucks still match? Its because they are willing to put the time and effort into a talented PG with a bunch of upside even though he is a RFA. Cap is an issue, but that did not stop the blazers for going out to sign millsap to a huge offer sheet. dallas had the money (before all their free agent signings) to go after felton if the believed he was actually good.

So the cap is an issue but felton's lack of improvement from his rookie year is a reason i believe teams stayed away from him. In the end he will sign our QO because i believe thats the most money he can get for the upcoming season.

The most the Knicks are offering Sessions is 4 million per year with a 8% DECREASE in year 2 and (I think) the 3rd year unguaranteed. The Clippers only have a spot for a backup behind Baron. Both are pushing the Bucks for a S&T becasue they don't want to spend the capspace.

If all they want to spend is 4 and no years why would they go after Felton knowing it'd take at least the full MLE (little less than 6 million) with multiple years to get him to consider it?

And everyone knows the Bucks won't match an offer; they're committed to staying below the tax threshold and as it stands now they're approximately 1.7 million under it.

We on the other hand have let it be known we want Felton back.

Portland...you know who their owner is, right? Besides, they promised the fan base that they'd turn Raef LaFrenz's contract into something (which they fumbled) AND this was the last year they'd have capspace for a while as Roy & Aldridge are getting paid.

Dallas did have interest in Felton...they tried to trade for him at the deadline. Why? Because they don't have capspace! Since they had Bird Rights on Kidd the only way they could cover PG & a big was use that on Kidd and sign Drew Gooden with (most of) their MLE.

None of those teams you mentioned were feasible for Felton.

So the cap is an issue but felton's lack of improvement from his rookie year is a reason i believe teams stayed away from him. In the end he will sign our QO because i believe thats the most money he can get for the upcoming season.

Yet Larry Brown wants him back...because HE thinks Felton has improved. Why in the hell does anyone want to weaken one of our strongest positions...just so "their guy" can start? Let him take the spot. In the meantime we'll have strong PG play for about 8 million a year.

I've said all along that taking the QO is probably Felton's best bet from a business standpoint. Guys like Varajao and Ben Gordon have proved that.

^ Yet another weak assumption.

Management knew that the only opportunity to trade Felton (without his consent) was to do it before the deadline. They would have been totally remiss NOT to have looked into that, as we're seeing right now our options with him are extremely limited and there's now a chance we could lose him for nothing.

Our starting group was 6th overall in the league for +/-. Why in the world would Larry Brown want to disrupt that by subtracting his starting PG when we were trying hard to get into the playoffs? From a basketball standpoint it makes no sense.

From a business standpoint however it had to be looked at.

Understand that there's a difference between wanting to keep Felton - because at least for the next year, we have no choice, and because he's also the most viable option we have at PG - and thinking "OMG!!! spectre,

You obviously haven't watched "THE workout video."

My question to the folks who want to get rid of Felton is what are your backup pg plans? I've heard folks mention getting PF depth with trading Felton.

My question is if that DJ continues to get hurt, what are our backup pg plans. We are currently deep at pg with Felton and DJ. But if we lose Felton and then DJ goes down, then what?

I know in general, we tend to blow off durability and ignore the injuries of our players on here. But what happens if DJ goes down and we get rid of Felton for a PF, some other position, or nothing?

I was being sarcastic referencing DJ's workout video that some in this thread have linked as a reference to why folks should take solace, as DJ is the present and/or future. I was making a joke about it because anyone who's seen the kid play knows that he has skills. But a workout video doesn't tell anything about one's ability to be the head of the offense and defense under LB's system and grind it out for heavy minutes over the course 82 (hopefully more) games. I hope that he can do that and that he can be durable in doing that leaving us with 2 terrific options there and the chance to come to a resolution next season that benefits the Bobcats organization and its progress.

Ultimately, I hoped that the Felton situation would be done one way or the other coming into this season. I was hoping that either we had let him walk after the season's conclusion or we had signed him to a 3-5 year extension creating some stability and not the same questions and disputes rehashed from last year. It just would be nice going to the season with more of a conclusion instead of being a cloud hanging over the team.

In the end, I hope that if Felton does just sign the QO that he comes in and does a great job that either: a) Leads to the FO keeping him here and bringing this thing to a resolution or b) Increases his trade value and presents an opportunity for us to enhance our team with a trade.

And for the record, while I don't agree with ballwhore's number as what Felton ultimately expects to get, I don't doubt that they highballed in initial offer much in the way the Bobcats probably lowballed. And I would imagine that his target # would be more to the 8 end of the 6-8 scale than the 6 end based on some of the reasons ballwhore mentioned. If I were one of the few guys who was able to play as many games and minutes for the team as he was and be an integral part (whether some want to admit it or not), I would not be asking for peanuts. But then again, I would not put it out there that I really want to be in Charlotte while asking and seriously holding out for 12 million per either.

Sessions had a heck of a year last year and is a good player, but for the same money Felton is the better pick. Felton doesn't have the greatest stroke from behind the arc but Sessions makes him look like Reggie Miller.

I don't think you can just through out the contracts though. Sessions is having trouble getting the mid level. If he signs for like 3-4 mil that might help us in our talks with Felton.

As I said before I see them pretty much equal valuewise but with different strengths. Being as how I love strong defensive teams (and why I'm so high on our current roster) I'd probably take Felton if forced to choose.

Sessions would be a nice 2nd option tho. A lot of Bucks' fans are livid Hammond is going to let him walk and I would be too. Stupid.
