I've always been fascinated space, stars, the planets, alien civilizations and all related subjects. There is just so much out "there" to know that we aren't even close to knowing. Those mysteries intrigue me.
If you have some Space related topics that you'd like to discuss or some science links or videos that will blow my mind, then lets put them here in this thread.
Here are my first few contributions:

...Who let Ziggy into the cookie jar?
But on the real (if I'm allowed to say that), I think space is probably the most underrated mind-blowing topic, mainly because we can't see it. If I was able to, I'd definately try to make Richard Branson's dream a reality. And Zig, you'd be in first class.

Man, I love Science. Space, the idea that could go one and on and on is amazing. If I can I'll try to post a couple pictures from the Hubble telescope.
Yes, there are Aliens. They have visited this planet in the past might still be messing with us now, I don't know. But I can show you a cave painting of "alien like" figures painted into the wall by cave folk atleast 8,000 yrs old.

I was never a science star in school, but space does fascinate me. That show on History Channel about the universe will make me stop and watch most of the time. Just the vastness of the universe and how time is different in space as compared to here on Earth is very interesting to me. Mind-bending at times, but fun for me to at least contemplate before I fry my brains.
You guys seem far more knowledgeable about this than me, but I do think it's wild to try to understand the workings of space.

?From what I have read most solar systems either have two stars like our sun or a sun and a brown drawf. For 30 yrs now almost it has been known underground that NASA has found a star like that that orbits our solar system. Ancient cultures called it the Doomsday or Luifier star. When it comes around every 3600 yrs, Stuff on this planet goes crazy. Supposely this star is due for a come back soon.

I have never heard of Nibiru...and I thought I was up on this stuff!
Anyway...Wiki:
The Nibiru collision is a supposed encounter between the Earth and a large planetary object (either a collision or a near miss) which certain subcultural groups believe will take place in the early 21st century. Believers in this doomsday event usually refer to this object either as Planet X or Nibiru.
Now this is scary! Then I read on:
The idea was first proposed in 1995 by Nancy Lieder, founder of the website ZetaTalk. Lieder describes herself as a contactee (http://www.bobcatsplanet.com/wiki/Contactee) with the ability to receive messages from extra-terrestrials (http://www.bobcatsplanet.com/wiki/Extra-terrestrials) from the Zeta Reticuli (http://www.bobcatsplanet.com/wiki/Zeta_Reticuli) star system through an implant in her brain.

There's alot of good edvidence for Planet X. Scientist can tell by Pluto's orbit that it wasn't orginally there, Plus something big deep in space is pulling on it.
The Sumerian's and Egyptian's both knew of this planet and keep a watch for it. I read that they kept track of it as it orbited the solar system. Many cultures talk about this Doomsday planet.

Nosir, they didn't worship cats. Not in the way you think. And those buildings you mentioned are great and fine...Built the pyramids have probably been around for 10,000 yrs. Those buildings will collaspe in less then 100 without maintenence. The smallest stone weight 2 tons. They match perfectly with Orions belt in the sky. there's so much about how, where and why that can't be repeated. he simple fact the each stone weighed no less then two tons, Today we would have a hard time fitting stones that heavy into a pyramid shape that could last on earth for 10,000 yrs.

Kat, I studied Ancient Civilizations last year, and we looked at their worship habits. They did indeed hold cats as something higher.
As far as the pyramids, if we really, really wanted to build one, we could. However, it's both impractical and hugely expensive. The buildings I listed are purpose built, and that's not to be around 10,000 years. But if you want stuff that's been around awhile from other cultures, how about some Middle Ages castles and cathedrals, or South American temples...

I'll come back to how extremely unbelieveablely well built the pyramids are compared to modern buildings and bring this back to something space related. I saw on the Discovery channel awhile back that all asteriods and comets have the exact same type of water as on earth. I say that to bring up a story from the Summerians. They lived in Iraq around 6,000 yrs ago. They have a creation story that says a rogue planet entered our solar system long long super long ago. Billions of yrs ago, Anyway this planet hit our planet ( Earth ) Knocking a chunk of it off. The earth reformed over a couple million or billion yrs, whatever, But that piece or pieces of earth knocked off , They say it turned into our asteriod belt. Now if science today says that those rocks in space have the same H2O as on earth, Kinda makes you wonder.
:g:
How did these people 6,000 years ago know that, Who told them?
Stay turned for part 2

From what little i know.... Yes and No.....NASA can probably see but why would they tell us of a Doomday planet so we can all go crazy and destroy the world before the planet even gets here. The planet or brown Dwarf Star...Whatever it is, it's suppose to be big. Like a second sun in the sky. Alot of cultures have myths of two suns in the sky at the same time and problems usually follow. Earth quakes, Volcanos erupting, Big Hurricanes, Pole Shifts, basically all the shit that makes you think the world is coming to a end. The planet is so big it's gravity throws everything in, on ,around this planet crazy. We will know when it's here, But it's to late then.
Silver Lining: Ok, This planet, Dwarf Star , whatever, orbits us every 3600 yrs. So, Earth is 4 billion yrs old, give or take. I'm not going to do the math so lets say thats like a million or more different times this thing has come by us here on earth. So maybe not everytime it comes by it's close enough or on the right same of the sun to have any real lasting effect on earth. Lets hope...........

Scientist Ray Kurzweil claims humans could become immortal in as little as 20 years' time through nanotechnology and an increased understanding of how the body works.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/6217676/Immortality-only-20-years-away-says-scientist.html
The 61-year-old American, who has predicted new technologies arriving before, says our understanding of genes and computer technology is accelerating at an incredible rate.
He says theoretically, at the rate our understanding is increasing, nanotechnologies capable of replacing many of our vital organs could be available in 20 years time.
Mr Kurzweil adds that although his claims may seem far-fetched, artificial pancreases and neural implants are already available.
Mr Kurzweil calls his theory the Law of Accelerating Returns. Writing in The Sun, Mr Kurzweil said: "I and many other scientists now believe that in around 20 years we will have the means to reprogramme our bodies' stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, ageing. Then nanotechnology will let us live for ever.
"Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively.
"Within 25 years we will be able to do an Olympic sprint for 15 minutes without taking a breath, or go scuba-diving for four hours without oxygen.
"Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive.
"Nanotechnology will extend our mental capacities to such an extent we will be able to write books within minutes.
"If we want to go into virtual-reality mode, nanobots will shut down brain signals and take us wherever we want to go. Virtual sex will become commonplace. And in our daily lives, hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening.
"So we can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs."

That is until about 2 or 3 billion yrs from now when our sun goes super nova , Dies, and detorys everything in our solor system. Kinda hard to be immortal with nothing to stand on.

What drives pricing is fixed cost per unit. Fixed cost is things like building cost, salaries, etc. Mass produced items have low fixed costs because the more you produce, the more spread out the fixed price is. So once nano-tech entered mass production, it would be cheap just like an mp3 or dvd player is now.
The question is whether there would be enough demand for it to enter mass production...

As dnb has noted, demand is not an issue, but for the nano-tech (replacement organs based on nano-technology, in this case) to be available to the masses at a relatively low price, the production costs would have to be miniscule, otherwise there'd be no profit to make.
Now, whether such tech would require unicorn tears or your average veggie to be mass produced is beyond me.

This is what made has made plasma televisions so cheap as of late. They finally got around to producing them in enough of a volume to where they covered the production costs.
I think bing is talking about finding a way to mass produce nano bots in an efficient enough way to reduce the costs of production. They're going to need some sort of technological breakthrough to be able to produce millions of nano bots in high enough volume to make it viable.
But it's definitely possible

... who will soon collapse under his own weight and cause a disaster of unprecedented scale in Sacramento... many a quasi-scientist will wonder whether it was the work of a vengeful thetan. :g:

^Very simple, if you could time travel, we'd already know about it. And so would people in ancient times. And the future. No way it will ever exist.

I believe that if we could ever approach the speed of light then time travel might be possible...

There is one theory that only forward time travel is possible, if that's the case then that would explain why no one has come back in time.
playing devil's advocate.

Ehh, maybe. But if you can't go back, I see no reason for you to be able to go forward, and vice versa.

I read somewhere that both backward and forward time travel is possible (at least in theory), but when it comes to traveling to the past, the point in time where one has access to a functional time bending device is the farthest one can travel back, therefore, it is not possible for us to have witnessed such an event (seeing as no one has yet unraveled the mysteries concerning Michael J. Fox-ing).

From Katepedia.......
Michael J. Fox-ing was brought forth by the classic documentaries Back to the Future 1,2, and 3. It explains that when you travel into the past you automatically change the future by whatever you do while stuck in the past. This document of life changing science also teaches us to stay away from guys called Biff.......
